What is a huffy bike?

They were the Walmart brand of mountain bikes. One step up from the Zellers brand "Zenith".

Zellers was the major department store in Canada for ages... They recently went bankrupt.

I loved the store though. You'd walk in and the layout and vibe of the store was exactly the same as it was in the 80's and early 90's. It was like walking in a time-warp. And they had a crumby restaurant inside where old people would hang out all day long

huffy isn't a "walmart brand" any more than schwinn.

my best bike was a huffy. it was so heavy and sturdy. i got very strong carrying it up the stairs to katy trail.

zenith isn't a "zeller's brand" either. zenith and huffy bikes are sold most places bikes are sold.

i had a "sears brand" bike (it said sears & roebuck on the metal applique) with a headlight that would come on when you got to a good speed (it was powered by the pedaling). it thought it was neat at night to see the headlight dim or flicker on the street ahead when i would slow down at all.

it wasn't a very fun bike besides that.
