Listening to this show in full is pretty weird... according to Listessa, Bernadette O'Brien was crushed during Zero and never recovered. really weird knowing that considering how many more songs they play without having any idea about the chaos backstage. they only found out at the encore break. this recording of MCIS is heartbreaking.

"When the band did come on the crowd went half crazy..it was pretty rough
but not moshing more so much pushing that you couldn't breath..they were
a lot of crowdsurfers too(later on in the concert billy got so fed up with
the crowdsurfers hurting people that he said that if the security caught
anyone coming over the top that they should be fucked outside)..
the first two songs were pretty rough but when Zero came on the place went
crazy..the surge from behind was incredible..half way through the song
myself and about 50 others fell down straight in front of the stage
and the thing was that people weren't giving us hand up and they way
we had fallen its impossible to get up unless you can get someone to
give you a hand..I was on top of a girl myself but I couldn't get up cause
just no-one was giving me a hand or anything..and while all these
people were down the crowd surfers kept jumping in on top of us..
this is when the girl was crushed..she was unable to breath for two minutes
and was pronouced brain dead by the time the ambulance came back stage
Billy stopped after they saw what was happening in that song..
If he had known then what had happened to the girl the concert would have
stopped there completly...but they stopped for a long time to let the
people get out and I myself couldn't stay there and I didn't feel safe for
my girlfriend either..I mean I went to the concert to listen to the music not
to hurt somebody..the concert continued on and the pumpkins did play well
.there was a lot of crowd surfing and it was sorta heavy but not too bad
until BWBW which made almost everybody go crazy..
The pumpkins went off after cherub rock and normally they come back on after
that song for the encore..when they came on with no instruments I knew
something was wrong and then billy informed us that a girl was seriously
hurt back stage and that they couldn't continue and how they were so freaked
out..billy was sorta crying on the drum kit then and all the band were really
upset..James had said earlier that night "It's only a rock concert its not
worth dying over"..D'arcy was freaked out by people shouting and smiling at
them to play more as theu hadn't got there moneys worth.."

Very sad show and a scary experience by all accounts. People had a hard time just standing up in that mosh pit. I saw the band not long before that and it's a strange feeling to know something that bad happened around the same time.
Billy handled the crowd quite well. This recording shows how stupid crowds can be. Billy just begs over and over, and yet some people are still booing when they say the show is over. People in the back/at the balcony don't seem to realize what was really going on upfront.
I don't know if it can be confirmed or not that Bernadette was crushed during "Zero" ? I've never heard about this before. Might as well been during "Fuck You" (big break from the band after that song). Not that it makes any difference :(

Oh, hey, nice, they redesigned archive.org

...that's really pretty sad. MCIS has a real different tone when you listen while thinking about that

"We cannot continue the concert, we're very sorry. That's it, the show is over"

Boos, random cries of "noooooo! nooooo!"

"Don't fucking boo...Do you fucking understand what he said ?"

Noooooo !!!! Nooooo !!!!! :dammit:

Was at this show too, right up the front at the barrier, terrifying experience. The problem was not moshing or crowd surfing, it was the uncontrollable surge of bodies towards the front. You had a crowd of 8,000 people with no barrier to split the crowd from the back to the front. You were so tightly packed between standing bodies that you had absolutely no control of where you stood. Three songs in is where it reached breaking point when the crowd started swaying causing many people, myself included, to slip down to the ground. I was lying on the ground throughout the third song, nobody standing above me was able to pick me up or they would have slipped on top of me and made things worse. They stopped playing after that song which is where the audio here comes in. More would have died had they not stopped at that moment. RIP Bernadette O'Brien

The Point was a death trap back then. Very few barriers, was well more than 7,000 people which is thought by fake tickets but they rekon it was closer to 8000. My sis was at this gig and was lucky. She isnt tall, started to get crushed and go down before some bloke pulled here out and saved her. Alot more would have been hurt if it wasnt for the bands instincts.

I was there, what a tragedy it was. Being in the crowd was mental, so much so that I had to leave and watch from down the back.

Ive been to over 60 gigs since-and having slammed and moshed my way through circle pits, walls of deaths over the years, I still remember the utter mania and the following terror in the crowd that night. The immence craziness was exploding everywhere even when support band Filter were warming up the boiling Point audience. After this, there was a huge clampdown on moshing at gigs, with warnings of ejections printed on tickets for every other show that happened in its wake.

We all sat and drank on the 2 1/2 hour hired bus trip home-thinking about what the Hell had just happened, trying to process it. You never expect something like that to happen at a show your at-only happens on TV,you think. Next day,we heard the terrible news on the Radio, and it was like, "Shit..." Mellon Collie had propelled them to stratospheric heights-everyone I knew liked some of their songs and went on account of that. The promoters should have upgraded that show to the larger RDS.

i always thought it was interesting how Billy never really dwelled on this or Jonathan's death at all really, whereas the PJ will milk anything for substance.

an intense show gone horribly wrong. It's good they aborted it.

On a side note: Did any lower-gen DDC come out than DDC-3? Not that it matters much
