View Full Version : Major issue with the live archive

i just remembered billy said the whole post-Double Door live archive was recorded to DAT. unless the hundreds of shows from 1995 to 2000 have already been transferred to a hard drive (doubtful), a lot of those shows may be lost because Sony hasn't produced the equipment needed to play DATs in years and the ones around are breaking down. we got Live from the Dark Globe and there'll probably be more, but i wonder if a lot of those shows are lost...

I hope you're wrong

The idea of there being incredible content just sitting around that I can't access is just...deeply, deeply upsetting

I don't think you have to worry about Billy not having enough old equipment to do something.

any studio worth its salt will have a DAT machine. don't worry. there are grateful dead reels from the mid-60s that are still being discovered

It's not like there aren't enough DAT machines to go around. My old boss made a killing refurbishing and reselling those.

i just remembered billy said the whole post-Double Door live archive was recorded to DAT.

Actually the exact quote was "I recorded the whole post-Double Door live archive to DAT ASS, as in Grox's mom's ass. It's all tattooed on there in ones and zeroes and you guys there is PLENTY of room on there for more shows. LOL. I check that archive every night. LOL. Taking real good care of it you guys. LOL." As I recall it was the first time I'd ever heard someone actually say "LOL" aloud, but now of course you hear it everywhere. Just another way Billy's innovations have gone unappreciated.

MAJOR ISSUE! MAJOR ISSUE!
not really an issue at all, but that doesn't make for a very good thread title.

however, just for once, for the sakes of unity, i wouldn't mind seeing an african american bass player in the band.
i'm sure there's plenty of talented ones about..
