One of the many reasons I like SP are the alternate versions of songs that have either been recorded or played live.

I know Machina II has a slew of them, just off the top of my head though, here's some I enjoy.

I guess he's always been WAY off in his thinking, it's just become more prevalent over the years.

and that's why i own the japanese version!

2bf though on my mp3 player it's track 16 with pale scales comin right after to finish the reckid off (well, i may have somethin comin after that one but i can't remember if it's untitled or something else right now)

beautiful thing there, it's not like m1 was already long & winding or anything

shame 2007 is fairly close to the original i guess, but the addition of jimmy just brings it up a few very crucial notches

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jysxy_Jy_Ck?controls=0&amp;showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

i disagree that every adore song benefits from jimmy's presence alone, so this is a standout for me

from the reissues i love the 2 alt version of jupiter's lament. both could have easily worked and you can see how the song was originally supposed to be the special thematic flagship of the album (behind the title track of course).

I think on the gravity demos there is a heavy version of ugly. too bad we didn't get this version in its completed form. ugly has one of the bolster's best lines:

Was watching this show this morning because someone mentioned it was Alice Cooper's birthday (which reminded me of Billy randomly starting this show w/ "I'd like to start this show by saying fuck you Alice Cooper")

Cool early versions of Today and Geek USA (Suicide Kiss) start it off:

BTW if anyone know why he said said "fuck you Alice Cooper" fill me in.....

Corgan: That feeds into the narcissistic strain. Why is that narcissistic strain there? Back in the day, I would run into Alice and Kane Roberts backstage at a festival, and Kane would talk to me about guitars and Alice would walk right past me. Why did Alice Cooper feel the need to walk past me? Why was I such a threat to Alice Cooper? I was a huge Alice Cooper fan. I saw Alice Cooper in ’86 at the Metro. I had every Alice Cooper album. I looked up to Alice Cooper. Why didn’t Alice Cooper walk past me in the hallway and mumble, “Hello?” Because what I represented was some sort of weird threat to his beautiful world that he was able to bubble around in for so many years.

Someone, back in the day, made a massive MP3 collection of every alternate live version of every SP song. I have it... somewhere...

It's called "Second Sight" if you want to search for it.

The arising and FAEOMM version of Blue Skies Bring Tears get me everytime. I don't like the album version
Ava Adore live with Jimmy on drums is also ace...gives the song a totally different more agressive sound. Also, the Machina II version of Saturnine is so great.

Also, Rhinoceros and East have great alternate versions.

The 1996 rocket live performances go without saying...beyond amazing

are you talking about the thing redbull put together? i have this if anyone wants an upload.. nice collection but it could honestly use an upgrade to better sources if they're available by now IMO

Yes that's the one. I'm sure it was quite an undertaking.

My thing with that comp is that it is for purely education purposes only. I mean even if you did manage to keep it upgraded with the best possible sources, you would still have a crazy grab bag of fidelities and recordings styles that makes the entire thing unlistenable from a casual perspective.

tl/dr - who cares about the sources - you're not supposed to just throw the thing in a playlist. it's reference material at best. a fine one at that.

The first version of BSBT is soooo good. Especially the "a-a-ahs." But I also like the heavy version on MII.

Didn't they do a lite+heavy BSBT live?

Yep, their arising songs were a bit less simple, then in 2000 they vamped up the song. In early 2000 they seemed to have tried out the studio version live, but they also vamped it up. Just listened to the 2000-05-24 version where they played at the Community Theater in Berkeley. They play an atmospheric intro for some minutes, then they speed up like during the Arising era, and the final two minutes are slow again. 2000-05-16 also, you can listen to at the archive
