Simple Minds were pretty fucking awful. I always hear them compared to U2 in reviews. Do you think U2 ever reached that point?

No

I haven't heard much from the last few U2 albums, though. Apparently the last (free) one was pretty dire.

And I haven't heard enough Simple Minds to have much of an opinion on them, but I don't think they're my cup of tea at all, at all.

So what am I even doing in this thread?

It's funny how U2 went from being compared to Echo and the Bunnymen to being compared to Simple Minds.

U2 made some great music, IMO, and Simple Minds haven't, as far as I'm aware. I think U2 are leagues above them.

I don't know that this is a conversation that needs to be had

they were in fact compared in their beginning but i never got it...totally different. They even played and toured together, there's some videos on youtube with bono and jim kerr in the early days (like october). But simple minds is a band who's biggest hit wasnt even written by them... They just don't compare in my mind.

If U2 practices really hard and puts out a really good album this year, they might get to the level of Coldplay.

What Simple Minds have you bothered to listen to, CW? Because New Gold Dream and Empires and Dance are fucking great.
