We got stranded due to snow, so an impromptu gathering with a group of friends at noon. Dinner at 5. Lots of scotch in between.

cool. a Thanksgiving to remember. I'd totally go for some impromptu holiday, the routine has become a bit too routine the last few years.

No. I'm not a 14 year old girl or pseudo fan.

I don't like the deal.

We don't have thanksgiving here but I've always wondered: isn't it just like having two christmases?

rly...wait till opening day, the deal might make more sense then.

You'll get 2, probably even 3 outstanding years from him. He's the rare born hitter who knows it and has an ego about it. He likes the pressure and I think that's part of why he left here; to find out if he can meet the east coast challenge, so to speak.

he's got a fresh start...I'd throw the regular season metrics on him out the window, because if he figures out how to hit in Fenway he could win a batting title.

oh yeah, and he's a Gold Glove worthy 3rd basemen when his weight is down. Most athletic fatty you've ever seen.

No religious overtones, no gifts, no tree or specific way to decorate the house, more focused on secular things like food, booze, and football

explain how

Christmas is a Christian religious holiday turned into a capitalist assault.

Thanksgiving is wholly secular with no consumerism tied to it and is focused on family and friends. It is a celebration of pilgrims landing in America and sharing a meal with the native Americans. The pilgrims then introduced diseases that wiped out the tribes, but hey whatever.

I think it's fair to say that Christmas is pretty family and friends oriented, at least to some people. I dunno maybe it's different for you guys cause you get that stuff a month early but the whole "get together with your family, eat lots of great food and get drunk" thing just sounds like how Christmas goes to me. I don't really know about your 'not tied to consumerism' argument though because i've seen video footage of thousands of people acting like fucking animals at monolithic sales you guys have the day after.

Plus I've done some research about those pilgrims and uhh... there's a bit more to the story than that.

Those sales are for Christmas, the day after Thanksgiving traditionally is the start of the Christmas shopping season.

There's a lot more to that story, yeah. :)

I just found a can of pumpkin pie filling in the cupboard from like 3 years ago which my gf had bought and we never did anything with. Im gonna be making a pumpkin pie and eat it on thanksgiving. I've made the decision there's no reason why i can't celebrate american thanksgiving. TRY AND STOP ME.

And then maybe ill have hmm....turkey...breast sandwich. It'll be the saddest thanksgiving. Wrong country, no real turkey, eating pumpkin pie alone.

I'm hosting my immediate family, which is my Mom and older Sister. They are going to bring all the food, my Mom will do the brunt of the cooking, but I will assist as needed. I'm guessing the appeal for them is that they will not have to do cleanup, which I don't mind, since I don have to travel this year.

Anyway, nobody gives a shit, but I hope all you N -phorians have a happy and healthy holiday.

did it even happen?

I think it just happened spontaneously. Two groups of people were hungry one day. They shared some food and the natives were happy so they danced and celebrated. We tend to have a lot of "thanksgiving dinners" and celebrations year around... and round dances for any excuse we can find...every thing involves as much food as possible.

Wife and i stayed home today. Ate sushi for lunch and I made pizza for dinner. This afternoon we rode fatbikes in the snow and went to the humane society to walk dogs for a couple of hours.

This is Gerald. He's a great dog.
