And just Corgan's screams in general. He's got those demonic howls.

I went to see SP live during the Teargarden era with my metal head friend and the last song they played was Bullet and Billy full on screamed the last CAAAAAAAGGEEEEE.

And even my friend was like holy shit dude

Refused to play an encore at the Birmingham UK show because the crowd weren't big enough or weren't into it or something.

Fuck the fans that were and bought tickets, right?

Plus the bald man in a black / white / silver dress was a terrible, terrible look.

Wow, what a phenomenal performance, great pick. I didn't know that here were any shows like this from 2000 that had as much guts and energy as the shows from 1999.

Kind of strange how there were lots of shots of Melissa and Billy, a few of Jimmy but hardly any of James.

I don't see the Machina tour as a fail. If there are a few hits I won't mind also seeing a few misses on an album/tour. Machina tour wasn't perfect, but there were good things in there, like the "metal" version of Adore. I view it now as bill's last loud and heavy phase, even if it was forced, before going back to a musical arc that started with Adore and ended with Jimmy leaving in 2010.

what the fuck
what about it? he was "fucked up" onstage in the early 90ies, and in the mid 90ies and... in general.

MADM was pretty weak. :erm:

I enjoyed the better part of the 2000 gigs - including Melissa, the two-part acoustic and electric set, dresses, and the general aggressive "fuck us and fuck you, we are done" act. Corgan's end of show banter - thanking the fans for years of support - were the sweet counterpart, and seemed genuine.

Plus Europe hadn't had a chance to hear Chamberlin live since 97, that alone made up for any not so great song performances.

They recorded a song for that album about the band breaking up. So I have to think that they had some kind of idea before the tour.

What lineup do you mean when you say SP2? I kinda refer the Adore era to that, and then went back to SP1 for a bit. then with Melissa, but no one was saying SP2 then (nor when Matt Walker was around). SP3 was, well, Zwan basically and SP4,5,6,&7 from '04 till present or whatever.

But if the cutoff from SP1 to SP2 is the year 2000, then o.k. That's how it should work I guess.

The April Northrop Auditorium show in Minneapolis was good. Amazing though how four years earlier they sold out Target Center, two years earlier they had 110,000 people show up for the free show (granted their were a few other festivities that night, too) and at the Northrop show you could buy first three row tickets from scalpers for face value the day of the show. What a tremendous drop off in interest.

One of the oddest moments in Smashing Pumpkins history, and a rare look at just how frazzled their relationship as band mates was at that point.

For context, James complained through that whole show about feeling sick from eating bad lobster. He talks about it between songs. At the beginning of the time you marked, Billy mentions that James threw up backstage. My guess is James wanted to skip the encore and get back to his room, but Billy pushed for an encore.

Billy has it out for people who order lobster. It was one of the things he mentioned regarding why Zwan broke up.

"...it was like, 'What do you mean the guitar's out of tune? What do you mean I have to be there at 11? What do you mean I can't order $100 of lobster every day?' I mean, like, bad. But it was too late. It was already public. The album was going out. So I did what I always did: try to make the best of a situation and start covering up. Put on a good face. And honestly, I'm glad the thing didn't sell, because if it had sold well it would have been really tough. I would look like I was going to walk away from something that I'd just built.
