I put on sunglasses when I hear "We Only Come Out at Night" by the Pumpkins, although not because the song is cool, it's simply because the days are much too bright.

For real though Corey Hart was my first pop idol...when i was like..hmm..7 or 8 or something. He taught me valuable life lessons like not switching the blade on the guy in shades (oh no) and also to never surrender (never surrender!)

Well i don't like to wear sunglasses, i'd rather have sun burning my eyes than have to wonder if i look like a douchebag (the answer woudl be yes). I've got issues

And yeah i know i AM a douchebag but i don't want to look it.

And yes, i am taking this very literally.

to be fair it could be nearly any Pulp song. Jarvis cocker is the king of cool, especially since he's pisstaking it.

I love how at the start of that video they have the camera out of focus so he looks like a skinny alien. That's a pretty fucking cool visual effect.

I might have to start listening to Pulp now. I really dug that song

I'll actually listen to the songs posted in this thread, they won't just go completely unheard like in every other "post music you like" thread

I would have figured you were familiar with them but since you aren't i'd say start with His 'n hers and Different Class. This is like their peak. A lot of people like This is Hardcore but i didn't care for it. Songs to check out: Mile end, Do you remember the first time?, Pink Glove, Common People (duh), Like a Friend, Mis-shapes, Disco 2000....most of these were singles actually but i find they're a band whose single were really well picked.

Honestly in my opinion Pulp is one of the like 4 good bands from the 90's (well I mean they formed in 1983 but they didn't make it big until the 90's)

okay phew someone made this post

yeah elphenor you'd prob like pulp, honestly
consderin you're a fan of the fall and postin on a smashing pumpkins message board, they're like a band that hit this great middle ground type thing between cynical-ish brit pop intellectualism and outright sincerity, it's fuckin beautiful when they get it right (pretty much from the Separations album forward, though His 'n' Hers through We Love Life are their "mighty four" if you ask me)

anyway, this thread

but then again there are micro genres of a specific lineage in the 70s and 80s that were entirely dedicated to trying to sound as "cool" as possible. ie - songs that make you want to put on sunglasses
