Yeah, I like the Biff or, at least, some of their stuff. Finally you've posted about a band I don't dislike or have grown bored of years ago. Well done.

Sometimes the big hits are some of the bands best material.

precisely. I picked up the Spin Doctors CD at a thrift store for a buck awhile back. The only 2 good songs were the big hits.

That doesn't sound like a modern band worth listening to. The reason why the record industry is failing is because music listeners really do crave longevity from their favorite artists.

no, it's because modern music listeners are only willing to pay $0.99 a piece for the two songs on the album they want to listen to.

I'm just very open minded when it comes to music. I like what I like. Even if it's some shitty pop-star or something. Even Justin Bieber has a couple songs that I can appreciate from a songwriting/melodic standpoint.

it has to be a troll, there's no way anyone could be as clueless about his own hypocrisy when it's back to back like that. "I am open minded I like a lot of stuff from stuff other people hate because that what cool groovy cats do and then the next post "THE FALL IS STUPID"

i mean the mainstream doesn't get the fall, but people who actually intellectually engage with music -- which i think fuzzy's made it absolutely clear that he is fundamentally against -- anyway people who do that really really like the fall. smart people like the fall. why would that be ????

i think this will never be clear because we are being trolled

Fair enough. I just don't listen to music to be educated or anything. A group could have a genius lyricist but if the music wasn't very good then it would be a mute issue for me. I'm pretty much a music first kind of guy, and if the lyrics happen to be great thats a secondary bonus. Obviously some overtly terrible lyrics could be a deal breaker though.

For me it's about the emotional feel that the sum of the songs parts creates. Fall may have quirky, clever lyrics, but the music just doesn't sound very good to me. Just my 2 cents boys.

fuzzyroes
10-10-2014, 05:10 PM
I mean look at the Pumpkins. Billy has some excellent lyrics, but often times they're just downright terrible, but it's the emotion that he and the band exudes that makes the music great.

It's not too bad. Not really my cup of tea though. Sorta sounds like a tighter version of the Fall.

Song kind of reminds me of Parklife by Blur. But I'm guessing that song was kind of an ode to the Fall in it's own right.

How? most of the people I've talked to who are 20 and younger aren't familiar with the Pumpkins at all, and if they are it's the few rockband songs. And these are people who are enthusiastic about music.

It's weird, me and this 20 year old girl were talking about bands together back and forth and I asked if she was into Weezer at all and shes all "ahh not really. But Hash Pipe is a cool song". I asked if she had heard of any of their earlier stuff and she hadn't. She brought up Green Day which enthused me and it turned out she wasn't even familiar with any of the pre-American idiot stuff.

Like Elphy, she also brought up her love for lame bands like Franz Ferdinald.

fuzzyroes
10-14-2014, 01:32 AM
It's weird, local rock stations around here don't even play any Pumpkins anymore and they're always playing Offspring, Soundgarden, Green Day, AIC and shit like that. The only station I ever hear SP on is 1979 on the rock oldies station.

Comparing the bands that you show enthusiasm for to the bands that Elphenor shows enthusiasm more, it's more of a surprising that you're familiar with Smashing Pumpkins.

When i was like 15 and BWBW came out well while i was already fairly advanced in english for someone who lived in a 100% french speaking place, it was still kinda lacking and what i heard and what i thought he said in the song was "a spider on my rage, i am still just a rat in a cage". Like i knew that shouldn't make much sense but it seemed like it must be what he said (this was before i bought the record and had a look at the lyrics, obvs)... Of course now i just think that would have been a much better line this way.

I think SP is a "cool" band. I think SP Is one of the few groups to make 70's Rock guitars and prog Rock actually cool and Interesting.

I discovered them because my friend's dad was a big fan as a teenager and when I told him I liked guitars and Rock music (My favorite band was Black Sabbath) he gave me SP's greatest hits album and was like "check this out".

Needless to say I loved it more than anything ever
