April 2, 2014

Long, long day, but I’m happy to report we’re now past the halfway point as far as the 26 we began with. Started with ‘THE HUNTED,’ which if you may remember was one of those riff-type deals that had gotten the gussying up; chorus-style. Having added in some parts this morning, I was happy that my partners were receptive to the tweaks. Score: 1-0. ‘RUN TO ME:’ we decided there was no need an updated demo, and moved on; quickly. Score: 2-0.

“BURNT ORANGE-BLACK’ was next, and this is one of those songs that has that timeless ring to it. Slow, languid, but powerful, with a set of changes you could jam all night on. But…Howard said, “It’s no single,” and we agreed. Not that every song has to be a single, mind you, but ‘single’ here is code word for’ it could be better,’ or ‘this idea has more potential that it’s showing.’ With that I tried adding a stuttering guitar figure, and presto! Change-o! We at least had something that sounded radio-worthy, which is funny considering the staccato stuff was the only change. Shows you how thin the premise is a good song vs a great one. Etc, etc. Score: 3-0.

Quote of the day: “I’m intent on making some downside, magical shit.” Lastly, ‘PRETTY BLUE,’ our perusal leaving Howard with a pained look on his boyish face.

“Don’t like it?” I said.

“I do, but, hmm.”

Score: 3-1.

Not bad..definitely not the worst thing to come out of Billy Corgan.

It might be good for radio but that doesn't say on the radio tends to suck these days.

Stopped listening at Linda Dingleberry.

I mean, FUUUUCKK, she knows how to ruin a song.

Isn't that Sierra Swan?

Anyway, very good song, the last part is a little repetitive tho. It would make a very good as one of the final tracks of Day For Night.

Isn't that Sierra Swan?

Is it? Different name, same shit vocals then.

oceania part 2.

I actually like this one, but not as much as World's Fair! I would not be upset at all to hear an album or two of that ilk.

bye june

I liked it...the back-up vocals seemed out of place but I imagine it's hard to sing with Billy because his voice is so weird and constantly goes between on and off key.

09-01-2014, 06:23 PM
Love the guitar but fuck do the vocals kill it.

09-01-2014, 06:52 PM
I like it, but part of me wonders if I like it because it's the first new song I've heard since 2008 where Billy was backed by a competent drummer. Knowing Billy it will either never get released or be neutered in the studio though.

09-01-2014, 07:32 PM

But yeah, it's refreshing to hear the drums come in and not cringe

09-01-2014, 07:45 PM
That was Matt Walker on drums, right? I wish Billy would just have him play drums on the next album. It would be the only thing outside Jimmy returning that would make me excited at the prospect of a new album.

09-01-2014, 09:14 PM
this is actually good ... i think its about how the pumpkins are not cool anymore

09-01-2014, 11:54 PM
The solo is machina blew away. The last chord progression is porcelina and also cinnamon girl. Verses is a slowed down cinnamon girl/Cortez
Though still a nice closer.
I like it.

Billy, Matt Walker, MADM and Jeff would make for a pretty sweet live lineup.

09-02-2014, 11:17 AM
This is an insane group. Any good music gets bashed, yet this song is way below average and gets mostly rave reviews.

09-02-2014, 12:10 PM
yup this board is fucked.

09-02-2014, 12:29 PM
What good songs have we bashed?

Teargarden? Because that's a lie

09-02-2014, 12:50 PM
Then the next step, Billy tricks you and puts the song on the album, and Netphoria response "Oh he sure did fuck that up in the studio, the live version was GREAT!!"

09-02-2014, 07:45 PM
Love this song.

09-02-2014, 09:19 PM
any good music gets bashed? oceania sucked. teargarden sucked. only two songs on zietgeist didn't suck. where is the good music that gets bashed?

09-02-2014, 10:10 PM
Mostly the music after the original lineup is what I see get bashed..because that's when it started to suck so the bashing is fair.

This board is pretty fucked, but not in the way that's being insinuated. That's also why I wanted to be part of it.

Weak song. 5/10

09-03-2014, 04:59 AM
The first time I tried listening to it I stopped it early on, wasn't impressed.
Have just listened to it again and still not feeling it. It's weak, lyrically and the guitar sounds like something from GnR.
I could see it being an attempt at a commercial song, background music for a movie or TV show or something. It doesn't have much substance IMO.

GnR!? Really? It sounds more like early Bowie to me... but hey, what do I know...

09-03-2014, 09:53 AM
guitar sounds like something from GnR.

loud live acoustics never sound any good.

09-03-2014, 10:40 AM
please come back, Matt Walker

It is nice to hear Billy with a drummer again where every fill makes sense.
Matt keeps it very simple and he has a great pocket.

For example listen to his fill before the chorus starts...super simple...and the quarter note pulse is always there >>>

Now listen to Byrne >>>

Thought this was a great one. I liked the pace, let Billy really dredge up some aching sadness, which he utilized well.

Simple song with a great solo. He's still got it but it makes you wonder why William didn't add these types of solos on Monuments.

12-17-2014, 02:44 PM
He's saving the smarter songs for D4N

This is a great tune

12-17-2014, 02:46 PM
I still don't quite understand why he left it off. I actually like the lyrics more in this one and it would give MTAE some variety.

12-17-2014, 03:01 PM
Poor man's Zwan.

12-17-2014, 03:06 PM
True...but it's still better than anti-hero.

12-17-2014, 03:14 PM
Like the song a lot daddy, alot!

12-17-2014, 03:15 PM
Burnt Orange-Black = Porcelina.

12-17-2014, 03:16 PM
it wouldn't fit anywhere on monuments

Great live viewing. Why couldn't Monuments have solos like this?
