SY Purists hate on Dirty but i'd like to argue that it's one of their stronger albums:

Another one of my favourites. It's very intimate sounding.

Unmade Bed was my break up song ;_;

I want to show some love specifically to Lee Ranaldo. He's the George Harrison of the band, under represented and under appreciated compared to the other song writers, most of his songs that do make it to the record usually blow all the other songs out of the water. He has an incredible ear for melody.

Agree with both posts about Dirty, and "Theresa's Sound-World" And "JC" are the two best songs on that album.

They have so much quality legacy. Really nothing to be embarrassed about anywhere except for Thurston Moore's personal fuckups. I like that their fan base crosses so many generational and age gaps without losing their legitimacy. Its rare.

I have some reservations about this statement... Last time I went to a SY show there seemed to be no one over 30...
just a month before I had seen NIN and there were people of all ages.

I was batshit crazy about them at 17. I myself am now over 30 and I pretty much never feel the need to listen to SY anymore.

That's cool. I don't know definitively but I am 38 and vest friend of mine over 40 and we both find time to listen to them. I still hear people rave about crystal sea and superstar and youngins discovering both older and newer material. I dont think older types go to shows much as is. I certainly don't. Social anxiety I guess.

Also expressway to yr skull, how could I forget.

That song is so badass it's one of my faves

I WILL ADMIT, EVEN THOUGH I FUCKING JERK OFF ALL OVER DAYDREAM NATION, IT TOOK A FEW TRIES, BUT NOW I HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED TO GET INTO THEIR OTHER WORK, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP

Bad Moon Rising
EVOL
Dirty
Experimental Jet Set
Murray Street
Sonic Nurse

Those are my favorites anyways

The Eternal, Goo and Sister are good too...Washing Machine and A Thousand Leaves have some great songs but I don't care much for those albums.
NYC Ghosts & Flowers is the real challenge...listen to it last if you dig everything else.

I think I like everything from them, 'cept the first couple of albums, and the SYR series are pretty much hit/miss for me.

favorites are: goo, washing machine, experimental jetset, dirty and the eternal (having this as their 'final' song is a nice goodbye):

Foster the People pretty much represents everything I hate about many of the new "hipster" bands though

I've always liked Arcade Fire. Doesn't change the fact that they were the band that kids would "wear on their sleeve" so to speak.

Much Music was airing that "Lies" track before they were even really famous worldwide

if you were ever into new york's no wave movement and enjoyed the eno-curated 'no new york' compilation, check out sonic youth's first couple albums.

If I had to pick one I'd say The Great Annihilator, because it's accessible without being compromising

finally saw SWANS this years... their own gig. the crowd wasn't too young or hipstery, yet i couldn't believe those around me would chat during the set. over that loud music. seems they were waiting for the song to START or something.
