my wife lost her phone last week. it fell out of her pocket at 7-11. the person who found it, instead of leaving it with 7-11 staff, took it home with them....40 miles away.

we're generally very busy these days now the semester has started and we have only one car. trying to arrange a meet up and he says he doesn't have a car. whatever, we go back and forth by text trying to arrange a meetup and i'm just annoyed and anxious that i have to deal with someone i don't know.

so the weird part.

D is recovering from surgery she had two weeks ago. we went to the surgeon's office last week just to make sure the wounds weren't getting infected (they were looking a little weird), but they were fine.

she went in for today's follow up and the appointment was canceled. the office called her phone to verify whether we still needed the appointment, and this guy answered, said that he was her significant other and canceled the appointment.

should i be as creeped out as i am?

reprise85

that is creepy. did the office tell you he said that? it is possible they misunderstood him.

i'd say get the phone back asap and meet in a public place

maybe. my reasoning is, if he wants the information that's on there, he already has it. might as well get the phone back.

but yeah, safer would be just lock the phone and forget about the whole thing.

UPS sometimes will make a pickup and pack an item for a small fee. i'd say it's worth the minor investment as a gamble. Send the UPS guy to deal with this psycho.

From the UPS website FAQ:
Will you pick up my items at my location and pack and ship them?
Several of our locations are capable of coming to your residence or business to pick up, pack and ship your item(s). Because our locations are individually owned and operated, services and prices may vary. Contact your neighborhood location to ensure it offers this service.

D. told her online friends about the canceled dr appointment and they were like "i thought you got your phone back because you started sending pictures of your cats to us". creepFactor++;

got the phone disconnected.

called the cops. a deputy in the field gave me a call so gether facts on the situation and he was like "yeah that's messed up." I gave him the information i had and he's going to try to make contact tonight.

i should also mention that the kid sent me his email address at one point so i could send the shipping label. so i found his facebook. he posted this picture on it about 2 hours ago.

Florida teens, man.

This is why I pat down all my pockets instinctively before leaving any place. Phone, keys, wallet all always In the same place. Would hate to have to deal with this sort of thing.

And yeah, calling the police was probably the right move.

I would've met up with him and brought a gun and six or seven other armed individuals. Then I would confront him about it and make vague threats to him. After that I'd begin targeting his residence on a monthly basis by vandalizing it.

But hey that's just one man's opinion.

in '05 a similar thing happened to me when i lost my phone. that evening it went straight to voicemail but the next day it rang and my outgoing msg was changed to 'hey this is david. this isn't ******'s phone anymore so quit callin'. she got a new one. leave a message.' i left him a message.

then he started texting my friends looking to fuck. and asking my boyfriend if he knew any girls. i somehow got the guys house number and called and spoke to his mother. i was done from there and kissed my phone good bye.

teens. i tell ya.

This sucks, but at least it's funny rather than creepy. Good luck getting the phone back!

I've had incredible luck during my time in the US, where I once forgot my phone in a cab and the driver texted my friend asking her to tell me to meet him the next day at grand central station to return it and then refused to accept any money in gratitude. Another time, I left my wallet in a cab and the cab company kept it safely as well, no money missing, nothing. A third time, I forgot my car keys in a Wawa while out with a friend (no idea why I had my keys out, my car was parked in her house and we were traveling in her car), and only noticed three days later when I had to actually go home - I called Wawa and it was right there waiting for me. idk but I have a some faith in you Americans. My wallet was stolen here and some creep followed me home the other day - currently not a lot of faith in France.

There's a sweet justice in people who intruded upon your wife's privacy by stealing her phone, rifling through her personal information, and impersonating her, having pictures of their The Hills Have Eyes family posted online for we civilized people to gawk at.
