The gem of this set is the studio version of “Let Me Give The World To You,” produced by Rick Rubin. The rough MACHINA 2 version has long been a favorite of mine, but this studio version will be the one I play for years to come. It opens with a quieter more subdued version of the riff heard in the MACHINA 2 version, leading into a more midtempo ballad take on the song, kind of in the vein of “Disarm.” Strings come in during the chorus, and later during verses. There are some really beautiful melodic guitar parts sprinkled throughout the song in subsequent verses. The last minute of the song features a Beatlesque refrain of the chorus to end the song, which Corgan nails vocally. This easily could have been the lead single off of Adore had it made the album, listening to this makes me wonder why a studio head didn’t demand Corgan put this on the album, as this could easily fit in on a Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits album.

14 year worth the wait?

When Did Grunge Die?
Published On August 1, 2014 | By Brett Buchanan | Featured, Grunge Report

Many scholars have asked, when did Grunge die? Or is it even dead? Or hell, is Grunge even a thing? How do I play in Drop D? For your viewing pleasure, our expert staff brings you all (or none of) of the answers with this new roundtable discussion. We invite readers to post their thoughts in the comments section.

Brett Buchanan: First off, I’d like to point out the irony that we were watching Rugrats and Power Rangers when Grunge was actually a thing. But anyways, so when did Grunge die?

heated debate!

I'm pretty stoked about lmgtw.

I remember him bitching and bitching in 1998 at how disappointed he was with adore's reception and sales, yet had he put this song in there he probably would have sold another 2 million copies easily.

I like the song, but I don't think it would have fitted on the Adore album.

I mean where? After A+O? Kick another song out for it? Mess with the entire theme of the album?

I guess you don't like Shame...

Anyway, you'd have

she holds the blood, she carves the knives
she digs the wires in our babies

amphetamine annie-dog
pulls her trash and her stories
from place to place and bed to bed
gives of herself and the magnet head
another floor, another ceiling
counting stars with double meanings

followed by

no I wouldn't change a thing
no I wouldn't change a thing about the way you are
the distance here, the speed so far
so far
so far
so far
let me give the world to you my love
let me give the world to you my love
let me give the world to you
let me give the world to you
let me give the world to you

and then BAM

and the night mare rides on
with a December black psalm
and the night mare rides on
what I fear is lost here

so may you come with your own knives
you'll never take me alive

Nah.
the way it is now is better than that, starting with LMGTWTY, then Tear, Cross, Because You Are.

wow of all the songs to eliminate from adore? shame is still one of my favorite sp songs period.

and to say they'd have sold 2 million more copies of adore if they included a song none of us have even heard? stretch.

LMGTWTY was a love song that Billy wrote to Michael Stipe after the breakup though Billy decided not to ******* it on the album and instead lock it away because it meant so much to him.

LMGTWTY wouldn't work on adore because it is a love song and the album's lyrics are dark, full of loss and regret. It could have been included but it would disrupt the theme.

I actually feel the theme of LMGTWTY would have been perfect on Adore. Yes, it ended up being an album that focused on more negative emotions, but I feel all the other aspects of love are included on Adore.

I've always seen "To Sheila" as being about the admiration of a lover's beauty, "Ava Adore" being about lust, "Perfect" being about the pondering of why a relationship failed, and "Daphne Descends" being about the sense of desperation that comes with seeing an ex with another. I really think "Let Me Give the World to You," which seems to be about the love of romance itself would have made a great middle point of that arc and really would have picked the album up from the slump it falls into in the middle.

Jesus fuck dude  I don't see why everyone hates that song...its seems like it's universally disliked by fans. I like the song, it's really dark and sexy, and there's something pretty buried in there.

Right because 'love is suicide' and 'love can last forever' fit together perfectly.

Perhaps "love is suicide" is not a brooding lyric about fleeting love, but a statement of what it truly means to love someone in order to make love "last forever." One must love sacrificially, always dying to oneself as one puts the other first in the relationship.

Or maybe not.

I like turtles.
