It was 10:45 in the morning and these stupid royals were still riding around despite JUST surviving a botched bombing of their cavalcade by another assassin.

i just finished Guns of August actually.. good book

It's almost hard to think about how significant this war was because it was shortly followed by a second, even worse global upheaval, but in many ways it kind of defies understanding that something like this could happen. Kind of terrifying

In honor of this day i shall finish watching Paths Of Glory before i go to sleep.

1910s is probably the most fascinating decade of that century. the technological advances of that time were insane

Actually...the first time i saw All Quiet on the western front i though, why did anyone bother making any war movies after that? all message of future war movies were already in this. Pretty much all wars and movies about after the first world war were superfluous. If mankind was advanced they'd have went like "well that was fucking stupid. How about we just never do this shit again? that whole fighting business, it sucks"

but then they had the versailles treaty instead..................
