Oh c'mon I was joking about that.

But seriously just tell me your favorite modern punk band or something. I usually like pretty much anything related to punk.

As far as i'm concerned the art of writing political punk peaked with Strummer and hasn't been improved on since.

Not really. In terms of quality of the writing, i haven't heard better. To be fair a lot of CLash songs were political but really probably more about social issues than anything.

because it's ultimately pointless because you're a total cave dwelling dinosaur

i could list a whole host of bands since the Clash that do good politics, but ultimately Refused nails it: HOW IS ANYONE GOING TO FUCKING LISTEN IF YOU USE THE SAME OLD VOICE????

The exploding boy
06-12-2014, 12:48 PM
Well i'm not asking them to name them for my benefit cause yeah they'll likely be wasted on me but seriously all the fucking time, Slunken especially. It's like lol omg can you believe this shit, SO above this.... Typical vinyl collecting music snob bullshit (noticed how I refrained from using that other word). Maybe for Elph's benefit? he's young, he doesn't have to remain stuck in time and pretty much just listen to 20 bands or variations on these 20 bands for the rest of his life like I do.

The thing is I'm very open minded to music in terms of giving everything old or new a shot (which I do all the time, everyday) I just don't end up liking anything and frankly I'm probably jealous of people who find so much to like (but also find it actually weird and secretly like to think they're just too undiscriminating or being dishonest) I think I may be aspergersy when it comes to music.

The exploding boy
06-12-2014, 12:52 PM
And I don't really understand why I should listen to new voices when they're just rehashing everything that's been done before. You're in denial if you don't think music has completely stagnated and it's just variations on old themes. And I'm not saying it shouldn't be this way, it's only normal because we've actually run out of new things to do musically. It had to happen some time. But it makes it hard to genuinely enjoy "new" music anymore.

okay, let's see, off the top of my head:

crass
bad brains
rudimentary peni
dead kennedys (no fucking brainer)
discharge
subhumans
circle jerks
minor threat

all wrote 'political songs' better than Strummer did. i mean do you even realise that the ENTIRE 1980's punk scene was reactionary to political issues?

Yes. And in terms of quality of lyrics, we're really getting into the subjective anyway. but you named bands at least.

Jesus. Seriously? Just because I DON'T LIKE anything doesn't mean I'm musically ignorant. unlike Elph I'm not 20 (even then id be surprised if he doesn't know all or most of these). What the fuck. That's like 80's punk 101 (Hardcore punk for most). I'll admit I've never heard of Rudimentary Peni though. But any of the rest are hardly obscure. If you had an interest in punk at some point in your life you've heard them.

Seriously though I'm gonna try to keep away from the music forum from now on cause I don't know why I do this to myself. This is achieving nothing (less than posting on the general forum even I mean). I don't like most anything anyway and I can hardly stand most people who regularly post here, either for being clueless or for acting like their supposed depth of musical knowledge makes them hot shit. All this forum does is further prove I just hate everyone so for once i'll follow people's will and shut the fuck up.
