Yeah that as a pretty brutal bait and switch right there. I kinda had this feeling that I get every time it looks like a character i'm rooting for is going to get their way but god damn i'll be picturing that in my head all week

exactly, the best ones get killed brutally. I'm traumatized and in need of counselling

I might watch this if they had Lena Headey take her kit off. But they don't so what's the point. Also she looks terrible with that hair anyway.

I'm the kinda geek that collect gamebooks (most of which are fantasy themed) and yet when i see Games of Thrones ads i think "this looks too nerdy for me". I think i like fantasy as an idea but in reality when they make movies or series in the genre, it just pisses me off.

vixnix
06-02-2014, 09:23 AM
yeah so I made the Game of Thrones commiseration thread already, even called it a commiseration thread, but why don't you all just go and ignore my efforts to cater for our emotional needs, as GoT fans

once again, FUCK YOU, netphoria!

i made a special 'fuck you game of thrones' thread last year, you insufferable cunt, but go ahead and make your own thread as if you rule the boards and the seven kingdoms.

Read the books!

the books are fucking horrible dogshit hack fiction filled with repetitive prose describing food

The exploding boy

^^

Glad you read them so I wouldn't have to. I mean on that one I'm just gonna go ahead and trust that description.

When I see fantasy books advertised with writers names in gigantic letters and gaudy covers I just think this is probably shit. So far all I tried have not proved me wrong (its good if I can make it past the first 20 pages). I'm pretty much of the mind there's no point in reading fantasy after Tolkien. It's not a genre that got better. Mainly because nerds and geeks that have an interest in writing it got worse as opposed to how they were 60 or 70 years back.

Trotskilicious

dude stop shutting the door on the world

i can't refute your thesis since i am a scifi nerd and fantasy is for MORON LOSER DICKWEEDS WHO LIVE IN DORKLAND

but still who is to say there isn't a william gibson or neil stephenson of fantasy out there

i do know i like pratchett though

r scott bakker, 'the second apocalypse' series (currently on his second trilogy)

his setting is pretty messed up and difficult makes grrm look like tolkien and the first book (the darkness that comes before) is weaker than everything after it, but it's probably the smartest and challenging-in-a-good-way fiction i've ever read

I was gonna say i might try that guy until you said that. Now, i have all the Frank herbet (cause fuck his son) Dune books for some reason but i only ever read the first one and dont feel much a compulsion to read the rest. So i don't know why i even bothered buying them (i'd read the first when i bought them). I just like having them there. It's not that i think he's bad but it just...didn't really... i didn't find it very compelling.

And trots i like Gibson fine but i found Snow Crash on the street years ago (i didnt even know the book or who Neal Stephenson was back then) and tried to read it and gave up after like a 100 pages. I couldnt keep interested. Maybe i should just give up reading altogether. Though definitely when it comes to sci fi it's not populated with as many hacks as fantasy. Or at least, there's more good authors to counterbalance the hacks.

“This was what my master sought? To tear down the Barricades?”

”And his masters before him,” the Nonman replies. “For more than two hundred years.”

He studies the mad Nonmen. “And what lies within?”

The black eyes did not waver. “The truth my brothers could not bear.”

At last he glimpsed it, a point like a failing star.

You're a real piece if work. You constantly insult people and take offense when they respond in kind.

How would you look old? Obese unshaven slobs have a tendency to not age well.

Have a nice day.

Lucky Day Spa

not much, though. robin hobb's liveship traders trilogy is wonderful, but is best read after the (not as good imho) farseer trilogy

daniel abraham's long price quartet is fantastic, too

Lucky Day Spa

for sheer scope of ideas, sci-fi is a better bet. peter watts' blindsight is one i still think about often, years after first reading. richard morgan's future-noir is great too

Define better.

few authors in fantasy beat GRRM for characterisation, so not that. but better plot, pacing, worldbuilding, narrative arcs, focus. despite the rolling shades-of-grey aspect, ice & fire is fairly broad-brush and increasingly tedious as the series progresses

(IMHO, YMMV etc.)

wut?? I told him to be careful because he'd hurt his boyfriend by cheating on him, how that's a hurt that never properly heals because relationships are based on honesty and trust, and that an injured party tends to lash out at the person who has hurt them. I've been on both sides of that. Should I have been more sympathetic? Idgi. I was trying to help... I told him to be careful.

read Dorris Lessing's 'Memoirs Of A Survivor', then rethink your stance on scifi
