going to a maths program up there or something?mom got a job out there, wants me to come with (only child). also, weed.

when she moves, we're gonna drive together and maybe i'll tour CU-Boulder while i'm there to check things out. whether it seems like a better school than UCF would be the determining factor in my decision.

Your wife would move with you right away, or later when everything is checked out?

we would definitely move together. it wouldn't be for another year, probably.

UCF is not a terrible school by the way. It has made headlines in recent years. I think one of them said it was the "least rigorous universityl" in the US or something, but I would assure you that this is because of the school of business which accounts for the highest portion of enrollment. the college of sciences isn't half bad and the math program IS rigorous.

but CU has a biomath program. And theirs is probably better than UCF's but we'll see.

people in colorado are cray. my top pick if i could move though

i mean it's hard to judge university quality i suppose but if you're going with "lay prestige" or whatever CU is gonna beat out UCF pretty handily i think.

and that is at the same time meaningful and meaningless.

oh wait i just re-learned it is a UC and not a CU

also doesn't ucf have the largest student body in the country? does that make it harder to like... get into classes and stuff?

With so many startups and more and more companies moving in that ship's unfortunately sailed.

it's really gotten obscenely terrible in the last 2-3 years i want to leave, i don't recognize my home town anymore, the gentrification creep has now arrived in the 78723 and they shuttered the tamale house

fuck this place.

Texas has dropped recently. In 2012-13 the ranking was:

1 Arizona State University
2 University of Central Florida
3 Texas A&M University
4 Ohio State University
5 University of Minnesota
6 University of Texas at Austin
7 Florida International University
8 University of Florida
9 Michigan State University
10 University of South Florida

i really don't care aout the name recognition. CU isn't going to offer more clout than UCF, but but they might have a better program for what i want to do.

reading about it honestly it sounds pretty decent

I've read Florida Atlantic will outpace them all sooner rather than later. Go figure, Florida!

well florida is the economic bubble state, i mean once this university bubble pops and takes the federal government with it and we're all driven to cannibalism i'm sure we'll remember schools like florida atlantic, florida international, central florida and south florida fondly

looking at CU's description of their biomath program on their (terribly designed) website and they are clearly not fucking around:

Research areas at CU encompass immunology, virology, bacteriology, population genetics, and cardiac nonlinear dynamics. Specifically, current topics of interest i<hg>nclude model selection and control of in vivo HIV pathogenesis dynamics, modeling of intracellular calcium dynamics, the analysis of heart rhythm instabilities, the role of aggregation and fragmentation in bacteremia and bacterial pneumonia, inverse problems arising in the use of population genetics and bioinformatics to identify geographic features, and the analysis of patterns in biological sequences such as DNA and RNA.

the land grant state colleges are usually the best public schools in their respective states. I doubt UCF can match florida in terms of university riches

also the university of denver which seems to be a UCF "new rich" school

I thought it was a mid-90s film featuring Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin.

It was Stephen Dorf,f but I can see how you would get confused. Damn, that soundtrack with the original music by Hootie and the Blowfish was totally bangin'.
