People should just stop being lazy and cheap and buy the donation account that removes the ads.

hosting ain't expensive. there are hosts out there that provide unlimited bandwidth and sql databases for like 10 bucks a month.

i asked how much he'd want for it and that i had enough for a serious offer and he said 50 grand because for some reason he believes that netphoria.org is valuable internet real estate. he may very well have been fucking with me, but i counter offered and he said 50k was firm.

glad the ads are gone. hpn, afaik never had more than a banner and their board has always been way more active than here and they don't hassle boarders for donations.

I've probably made half a dozen fairly public proposals to match Netphoria's entirely yearly revenue with a single check if they take down every single ad for one year's time, but nobody ever responds to my offer...

look at the rolling books recently thread which has ><i>1000</i> times as many views as replies. pakula's probably making a little more than chump change off the ad revenue, which is bullshit because he's basically making money off content, the creation of which he had nothing to do with.

Andrew made the site into an SEO nightmare, so the ad revenue likely isn't coming from the regulars but rather people who stumble through google search results, a good portion of which don't use adblock.

Andrew Pakula has been dead for 4 years, no one has shut off this hosting and his parents have been paying it because THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THIS SHIT.

i don't think so. though alot of forums (usually much bigger ones) don't like users admitting you're using adblock. they don't care if you do it, they just don't like advertisers knowing you're doing it

Have you guys seen the banners or popups on certain cites that specifically ask or require you to disable ABP? Someone has definitely noticed an impact. Which is why I'm surprised when someone shows me a youtube vid and there's a fucking commercial and I'm like yo what the fuck are you doing? this is 2014. and they're like yeah ads are cool and websites need to make money :dammit:
