For a few years I was very much into it. I'd love to get back into a practice cause it really helped my stress. A nice side effect was better sleep and my thighs were more toned up.

yeah i know it isn't an exercise routine per se, but i know it will help me burn some calories at least.

i love yoga, but only with the right teacher. vinyasa. good workout and then i feel like ~*~*floooaaattttiiiinnnnngggg*~*~ afterward.

but i haven't done it in like 6 mos because my stupid work schedule changed and i couldn't make the 6pm class with my fave teacher. i shouldn't have used that as an excuse but eh.

starting my new job in a week and a bit and i'm off at 4 and the company has a fitness reimbursement. so back to wednesday night yoga for me

my favorite part is the alternating cat and dog tilts. plank is probs my least fave position.

i was privately taught and have never been able to find a class that suits my needs. they are either too relaxed and dumbed down or the "serious" ones are too pretentious and still focus too much on group interaction.

reprise85
10-12-2013, 12:19 AM
cool beans

should i get a mat or can i just bring a towel

i actually emailed the place and asked them what i should bring and what class is the best for beginners and stuff. im assuming towel and water and dont wear jeans? :P

i got 5 sessions for $35

im going to probably go in khakis the first time before i confirm if they have lockers or whatever or what i'll be able to do with my purse, if anything. need pockets.

i bought some workout pants the other week though and i have a ton of tshirts that would be appropriate.

that's another thing. fat lady with all the buff yoga people.

reprise85

i'd be down to buy more workout-y stuff if i really get into this

can i just do yoga without them getting all buddhist-y on my ass or does that come with the territory.

i mean nothing wrong with that stuff but it seems very invovled i just want to do yoga uknowwhatimean

pale_princess

nah 5 bras isn't weird. nor is 4 pairs of shoes.

pale_princess
10-12-2013, 12:53 AM
i wish i could just bring you to my fave yoga class and you'd be good. no buddhist-y shit, good playlist, dim lightning, a teacher with a soothing voice and who makes it a point to make newcomers feel welcome. and i'd be there in my too-long old navy yoga pants and siamese dream tshirt. and there's a kickass cheap pho joint across the street.

i always wished i'd made a friend in yoga that i could go to pho with afterward.

reprise85
10-12-2013, 12:55 AM
yeah that'd be cool.

the only thing that seems meh about this place is the classes will obviously be HUGE, you can tell that by the website and how many groupons they sell and the massive amount of reviews they have on yelp and etc

i dont know if it'll be all buddhist or not, but their site sure is but i guess that's what a lot of people are in to

reprise85
10-12-2013, 12:56 AM
i take it back, the site isn't all buddhist-y but the instructors descriptions of themselves are but i guess they are way more invested than most of the people going there will be

i do have a lululemon "yoga bra" :o

i also love wearing that bra for plane and long distance bus rides. yoga and travel bra!

I was very self conscious going to my first class because I still had a lot of baby weight on and my behind was quite large... so I wore one of those long skirts with stretch pants underneath. About 1/2 way in I had to lose the skirt because it was in the way. All I could think about though was someone seeing my fat behind... but then I realized no one cared about it and I got over it

i'm like, really fat though. not baby weight fat. like havent exercised in 10 years fat. but whatever, maybe they'll be like "yo dawg good for you" (that's how Buddhists talk, right? ;))

the yoga culture that says you need top of the line yoga mats and lulumon clothing or whatever else is whack. but yoga for the sake of keeping limber and slick is badass.

i pretty consistently stretch to remain flexible but i don't know that meditation is for me. the fact i think that probably means i could use it, though. c'est la vie.

i've always liked older guys, but i typically don't go places where i'd be approached by them. i dated a couple guys in their late 30s when i was 23. one picked me up at a restaurant/bar during my lunch break and asked me to come back when i got off. i said i couldn't, but saw him later and he insisted i stay. he introduced me to his friends and one them was in seinfeld...that was pretty cool. i felt awkward hanging out with that group, though, because i was pretty down and depressed and being with well-off people just made me uncomfortable.

i initiated conversation with the other guy in a grocery store. he bumped into me and said sorry and i asked what accent that was. it was french and we talked and he called me 'miss' and offered to drive me home down the block with my groceries. i couldn't turn that down!

and have you seen eddie vedder lately? george clooney who?! although i've never liked the cloon.

i pushed myself a lot and only had to let go of poses early twice. it was a gentle yoga class so nothing was held ridiculously long but still. i think i did well. we used some of those yoga block thingies for a couple poses. i sweat a ton

i didn't read the whole thread...

I was doing yoga over the summer. My therapist urged me to try it. It's not something I wanted to do but I found it a positive experience. I went to a yoga studio here that refers to itself as "heart centered yoga". They don't do any of the trendy stuff like hot yoga. And they make a big effort to teach technique and the reasons/benefits of each pose.

i never got completely used to it. mainly because i dont like people touching me and each class reqired us to spend time working with a partner to perform certain poses. Other than that, though, I found it rather calming. especially since I was suffering some crazy bad anxiety when I started it.

I don't really buy into the religious aspects of yoga. but i do see a big benefit of using time each day to calm your mind. yoga helped me a bit with that.

This was my first time trying a front-opening one, gotta say I don't like it very much and some of the hooks come undone by themselves. I feel like I needed to go one larger even though it's the same brand. The other one is great, no complaints. The front one is not so terrible I won't wear it or anything, but when I get more they'll be the regular one. Not to mention I paid like $10 each for them. Also fuck underwire, as I said 4 years ago
