So I had a consult at an ED clinic yesterday. Mainly so that I can have my meds monitored by someone who's working with my therapist, rather than my GP, who's not well versed in mental health issues.

I was told that I had to stop drinking. No more alcohol. :( I'm not supposed to be using a depresent while I'm taking an SSRI

they'd like me to give up caffeine too. but that's not going to happen. :noway:

Kind of bummed out about this. I don't really drink beer much anymore but I do enjoy wine.

well alcohol is a depressant. if you're seriously committed to tackling depression then alcohol won't help unless you're one of those who can drink a few 12 oz beers a night and stop there

alcohol is a CNS depressant, not a substance that directly makes you depressed in the same way an SSRI can make you not depressed.

it's still a good idea to quit of course, plus both put a lot of load on your liver. it just one of those things were people don't know the difference between a "CNS depressant" and a drug that will make you mentally "depressed" (which doesn't exist i hope :P)

yeah. prolly good that I have a reason to stop. also, fewer calories.

I think i can stay away from it. My wife won't drink if I don't and our family members that we're around most often have agreed to put away the beer and wine for a while so I don't have to worry about ppl drinking around me.

I'm certain you've used it before. And I'm not whining. It is kind of funny.

it's an outpatient clinic that specializes in eating disorders. If I were to end up at an inpatient program it would probably be at the same clinic.

I should tell them they can't eat around me either.

Srsly, tho.... I've gone weeks and months without drinking. It's not hard to do. I don't think I'm an alcoholic or anything.

Just because you don't drink often doesn't mean you're not an alcoholic.
