Pitt was terrible, why'd you do that? Dixon also sucks as a coach in important games.

I'm stoked for Creighton's win over Duke coming up.

appropriate way for the big east to go out. being horrendously overrated and sucking shit everywhere.

louisville doesn't make it to the elite eight. marquette could very well lose in round 2.

my friends and i were discussing how we may have subconsciously bought a big east basketball bias from espn for the last decade or so. sad to think about but probably true. they all consistently underperform in the tournament.

the only teams left in my final 4 are two big ten teams. lol. i lost k state (that region is up for grabs though so i don't feel THAT dumb about it) and georgetown (that one i do feel dumb about) yesterday. ooooof.

apparently marquette was surprised by syracuse's 2-3 zone. the defense they've employed for a billion years and that they've seen every year.

?????

they got something going finally though. 3 point game.

Trotskilicious
03-30-2013, 05:18 PM
when run right, as jim boeheim does, the 2-3 is weird and uncomfortable because it's not popular, much like the goth kid in the trenchcoat

Trotskilicious
03-30-2013, 05:19 PM
also it's primarily a trapping defense to create turnovers

yeah, i'm surprised more teams don't do it. what's the drawback? seems kind of juvenile? bad prep for the nba? if i were a coach i'd use it.

Trotskilicious
03-30-2013, 06:19 PM
the zone in general is bad prep for the nba so it doesn't matter that much in that regard

nba can play zone, but there's the defensive 3 second violation which i believe doesn't exist in college basketball. in other words, in the college game, you can camp your big man out in the paint on defense and he doesn't have to move. in the nba, he can't be there for longer than three seconds or it's a foul.

you can run zone in the nba but it doesn't happen all that much, it's almost entirely man. for a while the nba didn't even allow zone, but they decided that it was okay probably about 10 years ago but it was discovered that nba players are so good that the zone is not at all appropriate for a full 48 mins. some teams like the celtics will occasionally rotate into a zone, but it's not like college hoops where it's basically the be all and end all of defense.

Trotskilicious
03-30-2013, 06:29 PM
i think maybe the syracuse zone is a little harder to run correctly, and requires a specific set of athletic perimeter players.

also it does sacrifice paint presence for perimeter defense and turnovers from trapping
