View Full Version : Generic video games thread Trotskilicious 01-11-2015, 09:53 PM fuck you killtrocity 01-12-2015, 12:41 PM Whoever is responsible for the inventory system in DA:I needs to be slapped about. Why are you hoarding shit? There's no reason to keep your purple stuff once it's obsolete, and you can't display items in your house or anything like in Elder Scrolls, so there's literally NO REASON to save items once you you have better stuff. I travel with about 7 items total, some extra staffs for different elemental situations, leaving 43 slots for loot. And if that gets full, just destroy your 2 gold rings and daggers. Trust me, I'm just reaching 100 hours and if inventory space is a problem, you're doing it wrong. You can always use perks to increase space, which is a huge waste but you have that option if you want to carry some extra crap loot around Trotskilicious 01-12-2015, 12:53 PM i bet it's laborious to watch TEB play something like skyrim. i bet he's one of those dudes that needs every dagger Trotskilicious 01-12-2015, 12:53 PM even if it's iron and you're decked out in ebony The exploding boy 01-12-2015, 02:48 PM Why are you hoarding shit? There's no reason to keep your purple stuff once it's obsolete, and you can't display items in your house or anything like in Elder Scrolls, so there's literally NO REASON to save items once you you have better stuff. I travel with about 7 items total, some extra staffs for different elemental situations, leaving 43 slots for loot. And if that gets full, just destroy your 2 gold rings and daggers. Trust me, I'm just reaching 100 hours and if inventory space is a problem, you're doing it wrong. You can always use perks to increase space, which is a huge waste but you have that option if you want to carry some extra crap loot around Well I've learned not to hoard shit for the first time in an rpg sure (yes i'm a total hoarder in games, in Amalur i kept every rare piece of gear there was and while i didnt play Skyrim, i still displayed all my shit in oblivion cause i got mods that made it easier to and in Risen 3 since inventory was unlimited i kept ONE copy of every weapon the game has). It is hard for me to break the habit but i did it pretty well i think but the thing is, i often want the money from selling the items (i may destroy shit but only if it's not worth much money), or some of the parts in the item. So I still don't see why they couldn't put a crafting station and a merchant at every camp or at least, one on every map (i guess being further in now, i realise most maps DO have a merchant but still not all of them). Sure it would have made the hold less useful, but it sure would have saved some time. It's probably not an issue to some because they make frequent trips back to the hold. I don't like to do this. The game ENCOURAGES you to do it (operations finishing for one). But i try to go to the hold is least as possible. Typically in rpgs I also dont like to have to deal with inventory "out in the field". I'm not the kind to bring up inventory every time i pick stuff up to see if i need it or not. i like to go out, pick up everything, and then sort it all out once i'm back home or at least at a merchant. The game doesn't encourage this. It encourages you to constantly monitor your inventory. I find it annoying. I also abhor the concept of fast travelling in any game but this game forces you to do it constantly unless you want to go mad...because of the inventory issue. Seriously though the hold should have storage. I mean...isn't it entirely logical it should have it? (that pissed me off about amalur too, houses did have storage but it was shared storage so it didn't matter if you had 6 houses, you still couldn't store any more than you could with one small cottage...that's one of the main reason people in real life have houses, and bigger ones too...to put shit in) Nevermind display... It's nice that there is some customizing options for the keep but hanging shit on walls could have been nice. And i like to have chests of stuff... A rings chest, a swords chest, an armor chest, etc. Definitely of the 400 hours i played oblivion, a fair amount was back and forth to drop items.... Don't judge me, it's part of the fun for me. And this game cheats me out of it. That and of character look customizing. Two big rpg staples for me. What this game does well is story and characters, which is usually lowest on my list. But i can recognize this game does it well and yes it does add to the fun. but it lacks in a lot of other things. And the character building is a too mmorpg for my taste. Mainly because it's party based game and has a mp component i guess... The exploding boy 01-12-2015, 02:58 PM i'm playing shadowrun dragonfall and it's pretty good better than the first one Yes by a lot. First one was way too linear. I mean this kinda is too but...it doesnt feel as much as you're just walking from one scene to the other. For one having a hub helps with that. i played like two or three pretty decent UGC campaigns that were ALSO much better than the original. One of which, A Stitch in Time, was even possibly better than Dragonfall (despite maybe the writing not being quite as good..ok well..the missions though were better than the official content, and for user content, the writing was good enough). If you still feel like playing Shadowun after that, i'd recommend trying it. slunken 01-14-2015, 09:33 PM i realized i can't finish ff3 until i attempt to house my old hard drive in an enclosure slunken 01-14-2015, 09:34 PM i probably would have beat kefka though Trotskilicious 01-15-2015, 12:32 AM Shut up poots, you fuckin hypocrite yo soy el mejor 01-15-2015, 01:08 AM tim and i bought a game called gun club. a little dull but fun to aim for accuracy. i miss first person shooter games so that helps. i've been itching to play counter strike 1.6 on my desktop or a larger laptop. The exploding boy 01-17-2015, 02:14 AM I just want to warn anyone thinking of playing DA: Inquisition to wait for a good while still because there's at least 2 or 3 quests that are bugged and cant be completed. None related to the main story as far as i know but it's frustrating a fuck considering there's been like 3 patches and these haven't been fixed yet. See this is the thing Bethesda is wise about... command console. I mean i could have never finished oblivion without it since so many things in the game were bugged. But with the command console you could fix them. I have older save games dating 2 hours back and i'm told reloading might fix this bug, but i'm REALLY not the type to want to redo even two hours of game time. this really fucking sucks. I guess i'll sleep on it and see how i feel about it tomorrow. MAYBE i'll redo this shit. One of the problem is that i relied too much on autosaves. This game is really good at it. The game can crash and you're only back 30 seconds before it crashed so i lost the habit to save by myself. This one quest that i just found out can bug for some people, it may not be main mission but it wasn't a throwaway quest either. It actually was worth making cutscenes for... Trotskilicious 01-17-2015, 04:07 AM game must be good if you put up with crashes, i kind of stopped crusader kings because of crashing The exploding boy 01-17-2015, 04:25 AM what!? I never had that game crash even once. Weird.... Yeah that would have pissed me off A LOT... usually i set it to autosave only yearly. I mean i do remember once for some reason, probably my computer crashing and not the game, having to redo a year over and the shitty thing of course is because of the high level of randomness in this game, that time around my monarch died during that year. That pissed me off so i started over again. I basically tried to recreate the year as it had went by the time it had crashed. Btw though DA doesnt crash a lot. My issue is bugged quests. Crashes have happene maybe 5 times in like 100 hours and like i said, it autosaves so often it's never been an issue. You lose a minute or something... but the great autosave meant i hadn't manually saved in two hours so i couldnt reload before the quest bugged. slunken 01-17-2015, 09:01 PM i think i'm ready to go on record saying that rad racer for nes is my favorite game of all time. i can pick it up whenever and it still puts my heart in my throat. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3me85pqMwAQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The exploding boy 01-17-2015, 10:23 PM I have a fond memory of it as well. It was one of my early rentals in like 1988 (ya i got a nes late...) Even towards the end of the nes life it was still one of its best racers. Though my favorite is probably Al Unser Jr racing. you could customize your car's colors!!! slunken 01-17-2015, 10:25 PM yea but with rad racer you can push down to change the music The exploding boy 01-17-2015, 10:36 PM This brought back to memory Top Gear which was an early snes racer i also liked a lot. And i'd forgot that....the srceen was split in two even if you played SP!!! Pretty ridiculous. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Hru6NR6a_NM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Elphenor 01-19-2015, 03:15 AM I play this game for money with my friends and I clean up good http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a8/BalloonFightnesboxart.jpg/220px-BalloonFightnesboxart.jpg The exploding boy 01-19-2015, 03:42 AM So my brother bought me a game without telling me on Steam cause he wanted me to play it with him. 7 days to die. It's in alpha which normally i wouldnt touch. It's not original in concept. Post apocalyptic zombies (i know...) + minecraft. But more survival. You have to eat and drink and you can get diseases, break legs, bleed to death, etc drinking bad water even gives you diarrhea.... Maybe not original, but... that was fun. Like 6 hours straight through play session fun. I can see where it might start to feel limited and repetitive in not TOO long (just like vanilla minecraft did but even then it doesn't quite have the depth of vanilla minecraft, for example you can do agriculture but you can't have cattle, theres only three types of animals in the game and they're just for hunting) but for now i like it a lot. The graphics are not minecraft like, the terrain is voxel and the quality is of about early 2000's 3D. Well, here's a pic: http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/7days_03.jpg?243a19 Night lasts only 1/3 the time day does (the day is probably 45 mins...) but the catch is that at night the zombies run (they do the regular slow walk thing during the day, a nice touch in a way because it brings both types of zombies, running and slow, into the game, a specific breed of zombies even climbs and jumps....) and...you're basically fucked if you're not hiding somewhere at night, keeping quiet in the dark. Worse, every 7 days the zombies go feral which means they won't need to see you or hear you, they'll smell you, and from far, and unlike in minecraft, they can tear your house apart with time. Even dig their way to you... And you can't sleep it off like in minecraft. Sure that might mean fifteen mins hiding in the dark but you can easily use that time crafting. the way the game works will be intuitive to minecraft players. Recipes work similarly but some of them you have to learn from books. There was a very intense moment early on where we found an abandoned town and broke into the library and my brother and some other guy spent 5 minutes shooting zombies away from the doors while i crouched from aisles to aisles reading as many books as i could to learn recipes... Then it was off to find the desert which, stupidly, is easier to survive in early on then in any other biome (because you can eat cactus fruits which means food is easy to find since cactus is everywhere, they at least should have made you get thirsty faster in the desert...maybe eventually). But this isn't minecraft. The desert biome wasn't 5 mins away. It was 5 kilometers and it felt that long running to it. We wouldn't be making it on time for the night but about 1km away from the desert, we found someone's house (a miracle in itself being that there's probably at most 30 people on our server and the map being procedurally generated, its endless which means they could have been just about anywhere)...well more like mansion (you can squat in abandoned buildings but you can also build your house, its more complex then minecraft for house building), the guy had dug a ditch around his house, put barbed wires all around and had an outfitted roof to snipe zombies from safety. He let us spend the night in their home (while he stood on the kitchen counter sniper in hand...i didn't get the idea to steal anything) then in the morning finally we made it to the desert where we built a shack on top of a butte. But then the next night was feral night so we spent the whole day making tools then digging ourselves a deep shaft(the shack was gonna be of no help to protect us). Made it just about in time for night and hid. Anyway, good fun so far. Especially looting abandoned houses (which i didnt really mention but is of course an essential part, especially to get good weapons or clothes/armor early on, you can make them but itll take you a while). I DO hope this isnt gonna be a forever alpha game and that it wil get finished. There has been SOMe bugs but nothing major so far. Trotskilicious 01-19-2015, 03:44 AM survival games are really hot right now The exploding boy 01-19-2015, 03:46 AM I play this game for money with my friends and I clean up good http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a8/BalloonFightnesboxart.jpg/220px-BalloonFightnesboxart.jpg Yeah this game was killer. Even if kinda slightly ripped off from joust. Among the very early nes releases, it was one of the good ones. Because i mean outside of SMB those very early nes games were barely more complex than atari games. Elphenor 01-19-2015, 03:51 AM One of my favorite Nintendo games of all time. Been playing it for like 10 years now I just love simple 1 Vs 1 competitive games with low learning curves. And you can play it on any computer in emulator form so all my gamer friends are up practicing all night now trying to beat me The exploding boy 01-19-2015, 03:55 AM Raise your hand those who had this on your wall (wlel there were a few different versions...i THINK that's the one i had) http://stopxwhispering.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/dsc08507.jpg I think i threw mine out a long time ago. I almost feel like buying one on ebay. Almost. If i stare at it long enough i'll probably start weeping. The exploding boy 01-19-2015, 03:56 AM whenevr i think of any of those early nes games i see this poster in my mind. Elphenor 01-19-2015, 03:57 AM 10 yard fight is actually a blast Elphenor 01-19-2015, 04:00 AM Mario Bros. awwwww shittttttt Hitting the pow block and knocking the turtle over on your opponent just as they're reaching for the coin The exploding boy 01-19-2015, 04:28 AM Wrecking crew was fun. Its' one of those early games featuring mario and luigi nobody remembers. On all the games on this poster aside from SMB my favorite were probably...Balloon fight, wrecking crew, Excitebike and Gumshoe (pretty original, you had to shoot at your character with the laser gun to make him jump but also shoot at enemies before they could hit him, naturally though, that meant playing the game at a fair distance was impossible, gun shoved in your screen was the only way to do it, a weird game design wise too) Wel kung fu was good i guess but by the time i got my nes, i think they already had at least Renegade out so kung fu didn't seem that fun. Now that i think about it i think my poster might have had punch out on it. It would have been a later edition, punch out not being an early release. and obviously superior to all those. The first games i rented on the day i got my nes were Excitebike and Punch out. Though i'd rented a nes before we got one and the games i rented then and hence my first nes games played ever, were Ikari Warriors II, Breakthru, SMB, Trojan and...something else i forget right now. Trojan would have been good if not so hard. Breakthru was fun and obviously easy since i actually finished that one on that first nes rental and it was a two days rental. Dead Frequency 01-19-2015, 08:23 PM It's all about that river city ransom. Collect coins for five hours and get a stone fist and a dragon foot. Mmmmmmm dragon foot The exploding boy 01-20-2015, 02:13 AM Well yeah. I ws talking about the early nes games. When i rate my fav games of all time the nes games being all well ...so very outdated and all, despite the memories, none ever makes the list. None that is, except River city ransom. Funny thing is i never onwed it. But i rented the shit out of it, Probably better this way if id owned it, id have overplayed it and kinda ruined it. My most rented game of all time is by far NHL 93 on SNES though. The first hockey game that felt like a hockey game. run2pee 01-20-2015, 12:48 PM Popped in the original NES legend of Zelda after kicking majoras ass (for the 1st time ever) last weekend. Still an amazingly fun game. Love the sound when you throw your sword beams. Can't find the second dungeon right now, though. Order 66 01-20-2015, 01:15 PM Raise your hand those who had this on your wall (wlel there were a few different versions...i THINK that's the one i had) /IMG] I think i threw mine out a long time ago. I almost feel like buying one on ebay. Almost. If i stare at it long enough i'll probably start weeping. i still have the newer edition that made with more games on it.. remember looking at the mario 2 screenshot thinking ermagerd theres a mario fucking 2 The exploding boy 01-20-2015, 01:29 PM i didnt know they updated them that late. WHen i searche for this pic i saw a bunch of versions but not any with smb 2. Towards the end it said now you're playing with power instead of the nintendo game plan. The exploding boy 01-21-2015, 04:15 AM I cant stop playing 7 days to die. I hope this gets finished. And it doesn't look good in this regard because it's been in alpha since late 2013.... i'm just saying if they TRULY bothered to make it even deeper and improve a lot of the bullshit things and make the landscape a little more interesting an shit like that, this COULD be better than minecraft (building and mining is more realsitic though so it'll never get a wild as minecraft in terms of building possibilities). I said could. Or if they released it and it got a very very strong modding community. That could also work. Because lets face it minecraft without mods is a one, maybe two months thing maybe at most. But with mods... I've kinda stopped playing DA anyway.. i'm at 115 hours and i know the end isn't that far off. I'll try to put in 2 hours a day still starting tomorrow to finish it. I've gotten bored before the end i have to say but thats my problem cause i'm a 100% completist... but you cant NOT finish a game you've spent so much time on. Lucky Day Spa 01-21-2015, 03:16 PM Ocarina starts slow but once you get into it my god do you get into it looks like you were right about this Elphenor 01-21-2015, 04:26 PM Nintendo releases shit gimmick consoles with stupid controllers, but they've got the greatest games Elphenor 01-21-2015, 04:27 PM You're going to have quite the time when you make it to the infamous water temple Elphenor 01-21-2015, 04:29 PM Seriously the dumbest controller ever. I'm glad I played Ocarina on the Gamecube which had a controller designed by someone who's actually played a video game http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/7465/968375-n64_controller.jpg Lucky Day Spa 01-21-2015, 04:42 PM i'm playing the 3ds port and the controls are very well done – uses the touchscreen extensively Lucky Day Spa 01-21-2015, 04:43 PM aside from all the trudging around the worst thing about this game is the camera, particularly when trying to target Elphenor 01-21-2015, 05:42 PM The map is actually pretty small which made the walking back and forth not a major annoyance for me You can get a horse but it's so late in the game, if there's anything I would change it would be to make the horse available way earlier Elphenor 01-21-2015, 05:42 PM I feel you on the camera though The exploding boy 01-21-2015, 05:58 PM Seriously the dumbest controller ever. I'm glad I played Ocarina on the Gamecube which had a controller designed by someone who's actually played a video game http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/7465/968375-n64_controller.jpg Do you not realise the N64 controller was the first with an analog stick? Yes, the stick wasnt meant to endure a lot of hard pushes (though only kids or idiots fucked up the analog stick, i don't think a lot of people understood the concept of analog at first, they thought it ha to be all or nothing...) but this revolutionized controllers. Its easy to look back and say it was stupid controller, at the time it was the best controller around and then analog sticks became the standard. Yeah it was weird to grab it in the middle but you got used to it fast and I never had a problem with it. Nintendo's controllers were always setting new standards (try a genesis controller vs a snes one for one). And it continued on to the Wii. This is not one of the dumbest controllers, but put in context for the time, actually one of the best of all time. It was a great controller aside from the stick being not built to last. I hated playing n64 with anything but my own controllers for that reason, the sticks were usually loose on anyone else's. Elphenor 01-21-2015, 06:01 PM It makes a lot of the games on the N64 basically unplayable for me. I'd gladly give up the analog stick to not have to hold a giant double U The Wii motes are stupid also, just give me a fucking controller it's not that complicated Elphenor 01-21-2015, 06:02 PM Then the Wii U plus or whatever has that stupid touch screen tablet thing FUCK I JUST WANT TO PLAY MARIO WITHOUT YOU FORCING THESE ANNOYING GIMMICKS ON ME Elphenor 01-21-2015, 06:05 PM And it's never integrated well. The Wii mote doesn't feel like a natural progression of controllers it feels like a gimmick because that's all it is. For games like Wii Sports it was a lot of fun (for about a week), but when I'm playing Zelda it's just immersion breaking They insist on shoehorning the shit into every game in the most jarring ways Lucky Day Spa 01-21-2015, 06:32 PM You can get a horse but it's so late in the game, if there's anything I would change it would be to make the horse available way earlier i just got the horse guy just grew up not long ago Elphenor 01-21-2015, 06:35 PM As an adult? And you can ride it around Hyrule? Maybe I just did it wrong I can't remember. killtrocity 01-21-2015, 06:39 PM Then the Wii U plus or whatever has that stupid touch screen tablet thing FUCK I JUST WANT TO PLAY MARIO WITHOUT YOU FORCING THESE ANNOYING GIMMICKS ON ME The tablet has huge potential. Too bad only the Wind Waker port has really taken advantage. It's by far the most efficient way of managing inventory and maps. Too bad the U has almost zero third-party support Same thing happened with the Wii remote and Skyward Sword. The features can be used to improve gameplay but the only people who seems to know how to use it efficiently, or have the creative drive to do so, are Nintendo developers brutechinasky 01-21-2015, 06:53 PM started playing dark souls 2 maybe slightly less difficult than the first one (or maybe it's just because this time i know what to expext) but not bad so far finished rage the other day mediocre game with a horrible ending hopefully doom 4 will be a little better Lucky Day Spa 01-21-2015, 07:36 PM As an adult? Elphenor 01-26-2015, 03:18 AM nintendo update: still absorbed by ocarina of time 3d. getting close to the end, i think the majora's mask remake comes out in a few weeks so that'll be my next purchase Majora's Mask is a whole other thing. You'll either love it or hate it. And it's really dark. One of the most interesting games I've ever played but I never finished it. The exploding boy 01-26-2015, 02:02 PM Anybody check out the Riddick games? Escape from butcher bay was a lot of fun, I got the last one recently but my xbox capped on me. I played it when it was released. It was the best thing Vin diesel was ever involved with. Not that it's saying much. But yeah. They should have focused on making more Riddick games an less Riddick movies. At least through the character's eyes i only have to hear Diesel's voice, not see his painful attempts at acting. The exploding boy 01-26-2015, 02:04 PM Majora's Mask is a whole other thing. You'll either love it or hate it. And it's really dark. One of the most interesting games I've ever played but I never finished it. There's some interesting theories about what majora's mask is about. Probably bullshit but interesting. I have to say i didn't like it as much as Ocarina. But it was alright. Lucky Day Spa 01-27-2015, 11:05 PM finished ocarina of time today, started on wind waker hd. holy crap the visuals are amazing Lucky Day Spa 01-27-2015, 11:06 PM no idea how it compares to the gamecube original but the animation is unlike anything else i've played. pixar-style use of 2d techniques in a 3d setting. very cool Trotskilicious 01-27-2015, 11:36 PM crack headed about crusader kings 2 again. depression runs in my dynasty sounds familiar! The exploding boy 01-28-2015, 05:47 AM The most fun i had in my first game was with a retard queen. Her dad died when she was 1 after spending like a year on the throne, no male heirs. I had her regent mother try to prepare things for the next 15 years left before she'd officially govern. they tried to assassinate her like 3 times as a child. Nobody liked her because woman plus mentally challenged. But fuck them. She faced countless plots to put someone else on the throne. She suffered massive revolts and became ruthless when it became obvious trying to cajole her vassals and dynasty wasn't gonna work anyway. Heads of nephews and cousins rolled when they lost their revolution wars, the same she'd given titles to in the hope they would like her but they just used their power to turn on her. Eventually though she won her people and vassals over in her older age (well she killed a lot who had claims). Things settled. She lived a full reign, died at 58 of natural causes, married four times and had nearly reunited the whole of de jure Poland by the time she died. It was hard, and it was fun as fuck. Whats the oldest character you ever had? My first ever chracter in my first game lived to be 94.... in the 1100's i don't even know if that's possible... But since i had started he was nearly 40, it's not the longest reign i had. Shit i think the above mentioned queen was one of the longest. but i think i got one that beat her. Trotskilicious 01-28-2015, 05:51 AM Feldobur the Black was 71 and still popped out 2 kids in his late 60s what was hilarious is that his son tried to kill him and just for S&Gs i left him in prison to rot because i figured it was funny to have a king that was imprisoned most of his early adult life. he lived there for fucking 25 years and was king for maybe six months before he dropped dead. Trotskilicious 01-28-2015, 05:56 AM actually the O'Connors in general can be very long lived and pop out a lot of sad babies Trotskilicious 01-28-2015, 05:59 AM i do a lot of reloading which i should probably stop i was fucking around and basically now my dynasty runs the duchy of man even though it's part of scotland, and during one play the duke of man became king of scotland which i thought was good because O'Connor Rules but then like in a few years he tried to claim the kingdom of ireland and then i rage quit The exploding boy 01-28-2015, 06:01 AM I may have never nerded out about a game more than CK II. I wrote down pretty much everything that went on in a text file on my laptop as i played it (on desktop). Why? I ont know. I could give you the exact date and results and protagonists of EVERY battle i fought in the 400 years span of the game. I can tell you all the significant event in my characters lives and that of their children with accurate dates (and to a lesser extent that of councillors), when they married, who they married, when they died, what they died of when they were given a title, and so on. Every. Single. One. Every. Single. Battle. Think about it for a second and you'll know i am probably completely insane and utterly irreparably sad. It would have been very great though if the game could have done that itself. Under every character it could have written down important events. Trotskilicious 01-28-2015, 06:07 AM i feel like these guys would make better games if they took a look at football manager or out of the park baseball for historical data also probably think about fancy noble searches, i mean you could fix it so people have "scouts" and only know about people in the area CKII does remind me of sports management sims tbh Trotskilicious 01-28-2015, 06:12 AM i used to keep track of standings and drafts of madden/college football i don't do that anymore but i do tend to want to play NBA 2k franchise mode as all the teams which means i have to set lineups and stuff for 30 teams it gets to be a lot of management but i'm having fun so it's fine or something right Tchocky 01-30-2015, 08:51 PM Pre-ordered Mortal Kombat X. Can't wait to get my Fatality on come April. The exploding boy 01-31-2015, 07:02 PM This post is all spoilers free: Finished Dragon Age Inquisition at last. I had barely played for like 4 days because i had to finish operations and all you can do is wait for them to finish. then i kinda got distracted by other games. 154 hours is what it took. I did everything. Or at least everything that could be completed. Bugs prevented me from finishing about 3 or 4 quests/collections. Mind you for the collections i used walkthroughs in good part, i want to finish everything, but i don't want to spend half my life looking for it. though if you explore the whole of maps you'll likely find the vast majority of them. I fucked myself over a little because at some point near the end i wanted to figure out what were the consequences to a choice (no spoilers ahead dont worry) so i went looking online and well...it pretty much spoiled the best part about the ending.... oh well. Still i wish it would have been possible to be more power hungry evil. As it is i just pretended i was being nice just to fuck everyone over much later, i role played it this way allying myself with those i thought would serve me best eventually. Most easily controllable. Because good/kinda good is your only options really. I wish the next one continued the inquisitor's story but it likely won't. I have to say i've rarely played a game in which all your allies/companions had somethign likeable about them. Generally they're too paper thin to care or they're just poorly written and annoying. But this game makes it hard to want to be a dick to most of them... Well that is...all except Vivienne who i kept wishing i could just throw off her balcony... no redeeming quality that one. The exploding boy 01-31-2015, 07:04 PM Oh yeah and i played on normal and never used the tactical view once for any fight. I'm not even sure what it looks like. In the tutorial they mentioned it and i clicked the proper button but that was it. The exploding boy 02-01-2015, 12:41 AM So i've been playing Dying Light for two days. It's not the most amazing game ever made (and no im not a zombie games freak, this is my second ever after 7 Days to Die) but i think this game needs to be experienced still. That's how far physics have come in games. The little the game does it does very well (a bit like Shadow of Mordor last yar, not that the games have anything in common, i just mean Shadow of Mordor was a shallow game that did what it did very well). The slicing and stabbing and bashing is disturbingly realistic. The loose ragdolly quality of the zombies when you kick them or trip them or drop kick them.... It's just.... yeah it's prtty intense. Also, the parkour is not on rails like the AC games. It's pretty impressive too. You do all of it yourself but it's actually not hard either. Just much more satisfying that you have to do more than hold a button and watch the game...cheat you out of doing anything. Tchocky 02-01-2015, 01:29 PM Just bought the Resident Evil HD remaster on Steam Why the hell does a game that's damn near 13 years old run SOOOOOO SLOOOOOW on my two-year-old laptop at the LOWEST POSSIBLE GRAPHICS SETTING?! (For comparison sake, I can run Mass Effect 3 on the highest possible graphics setting and it runs butter smooth.) This is bullshit. And don't give me "Uh, probably because your laptop sucks" because: Intel Core i7-3610QM 8GB DDR3 1TB SDHD 2GB nVidia GeForce 650M discrete graphics Game needs a patch. Or three. Tchocky 02-01-2015, 01:36 PM That said, the RE remaster looks phenomenal. It was probably the prettiest game ever when it originally came out, and the graphics hold up surprisingly well now. As long as you don't mind the admittedly antiquated control scheme, it's still a fun experience. Now if it would just run properly... The exploding boy 02-01-2015, 03:25 PM I never really got RE. To me it was just a better looking Alone in the Dark. In fact RE usually gets the credit for inventing that genre. I played the second and fourth. Neither left a lasting impression. The gameplay was so static. I guess it's changed now but in 2005, RE 4's gameplay felt limiting, dated. It's weird when you think about it they started the zombie trend in games but it's almost like you forget. I guess cause zombies didn't become a thing in games until about ten years later. Tchocky 02-01-2015, 03:51 PM I love RE4...probably my favorite entry in the series. After that the series came off the rails. RE5 was only good with two players, and RE6 suffered from a case of over think and shoddy controls (The whole three interconnected storyline thing in RE6 was well-intentioned and could have been interesting, but in the end it only felt like I was playing three unfinished video games). The exploding boy 02-01-2015, 04:06 PM I wanna say the more i play Dying Light the more i like it (after the initial disappointment of realising this wasn't really a survival game and also that the map was not as big as the scenery would make you think...there's loads of the city you see but can't get to). This is better than Shadow or Mordor and that won Gamespot's game of the year...the truth is i think neither are THAT good but i'm just saying (i guess i do compare the two because both are very gory and....acrobatic though mordor does it AC style), two months in 2015 there's already a game that beats GS's GOTY. Bad year last year? Or just rewarded undeserving games? I know i've got the world against me on this but even Dragon Age Inquisition (which was most people GOTY), even having put 154 hours in...i dunno... It's good but this is not a GOTY except on a so so year. I mean i got a bit bored around maybe 90 hours. After that i just trudged through. Its a game i kept wanting to like more but too much of it annoyed me. I liked it, i didn't love it. Back to Dying light, I feel a bit dirty for liking it cause i thought Techland's marketing for Riptide was tasteless and probably indicated the high level of bro-itude that must reign at the company (i mean it is fact anyone obsessed with zombies is generally an idiot bro), but there is no way to deny the fun in dropkicking a zombie off a building to see it ragdolly fly like three hundred meters down, possibly smashing it's head on something on the way down.. After the story heavy, more cerebral, less gameplay oriented DA:I, it is exactly what i needed. There was a quest you have to climb a bridge (golden gate type) and once up there you're forced to walk on a narrow part of the structure..... you feel the fear of being in such a precarious position, the scale is accurate, it's a long fucking way down..but at least it looks petty up there....i mean this isn't like ac where you character won't fall off unless you want it to...in this, you WILL die falling off things at one point or another. There's even consequences for death (an extremely rare thing nowadays), you lose points, points that are used to level up your skills. It's not a huge penalty but it can matter. It'll slow your progress. At this point i wish they'd take this game's engine and gameplay and made something other than a zombie game with it. I'm not sure what. Maybe something more Mad Maxy. And have more survival elements. Looting in this game is just to either make weapons or find things you can sell to get weapons...its weapons centric (there's over a hundred which might just be overkill). And yeah the story's like whatever but i don't play games for story. Otherwise i'd love DA:I. Tchocky 02-01-2015, 04:23 PM Shadow of Mordor = Batman Arkham in Middle Earth. The exploding boy 02-01-2015, 04:28 PM It's an exact mix of Batman and AC to me. But in the end while i think the fighting is proably more fun than in Batman, it's too shallow to be as good as the Batman games or the best AC ones (like II and IV). But i think it has a lot of potential as a series. It just needs to be less...mindless. The gameplay is as strong as it gets, it's everything around that's the issue. And dying light is a little like that too. The exploding boy 02-01-2015, 05:10 PM Funny just found out the main guy in Dying Light is voiced by the guy who voiced Chris Redfield in RE V, Batman in Arkham Origins an Ezio Auditore in AC II. All games we just talked about... At least it's not Troy Baker...again (i think he Is good but you know...overused...) Also..Stephen Merchant is in Dying light voicing a completely non comedic character. Weird. Tchocky 02-01-2015, 05:15 PM If a major male video game character is not voice by Troy Baker, he's probably voiced by Nolan North, and vice versa. As for major female video game characters...the above rule basically applies to Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis. toase 02-02-2015, 09:30 PM It's been weeks since I don't care about my games... I think that's a bad sign.... Rairun 02-02-2015, 10:50 PM Replaying Grim Fandango for the first time since 1999. Still awesome. I like how the remaster includes all language options without the need to relaunch or reinstall the game. I played the Brazilian Portuguese version back then, and sometimes I like to switch for nostalgia's sake. The voice actors are quite a bit better in English, though. toase 02-02-2015, 11:00 PM I almost bought that Elphenor 02-04-2015, 07:01 AM About to play FreeStyle2 an online half court street basketball game Apparently it's pretty fun Trotskilicious 02-04-2015, 07:20 AM sounds dumb run2pee 02-04-2015, 11:25 AM So when you die in legend of zelda (nes) it says "save, continue, retry." Word of warning. It may be tempting, after a bubble knocks you into a like like whilst you're trying to dodge blue wizrobes in dungeon 6 (thus costing you your pricey magical shield to the like like's tummy) to hit retry so you can start the round over with your shield. But you don't start over that round, you start over the last time you saved. Which, in my recent case, was like three dungeons ago. Shit! Elphenor 02-04-2015, 11:36 AM nes Zelda is so difficult It took me forever to even find the first couple of dungeons, game gives zero clues and zero shits about your time Order 66 02-04-2015, 12:09 PM i actually beat it when i was 7 or 8 years old... have no idea how i pulled it off. the only thing i can think of is i glossed the secrets from a nintendo power magazine or something hnibos 02-04-2015, 01:08 PM Cheater The exploding boy 02-04-2015, 02:15 PM come on zelda isnt even hard. What are you guys on about. Adventure of Link was the harder one, i couldn't finish it unless i played the game of someone who finished it once (the second time around you were more powerful, made it easier..you think it would have been the opposite). Still everyone i knew could do it so i felt like a failure. I may have finished it legit at some point but in my memory i dont think i did. Probably would have if i'd owned it. It wasn't like Mega Man or Castlevania hard in any way but it was certainly harder then the first. It was one of the latter bosses i couldn't beat. Order 66 02-04-2015, 02:53 PM zelda 1 wasnt hard per se but the ga,e is obtuse as hell.. like how am i know some random bush out of 1000 bushes in the game is the one i need to burn to get to the sixth dungeon or whatever run2pee 02-04-2015, 03:13 PM ^^ Yes zero shits for your time. But conversely it's soooooooooo rewarding when you do burn the right bush or bomb the correct wall and you get to hear the zelda secret chime. Unless of course it's nothing in there but one of the dozen or so dudes that charge you $50 to repair their door. On second thought, yeah, fuck zelda nes! The exploding boy 02-04-2015, 03:36 PM To be fair i think that some of the more obtuse shit was told to me by friends. I don't know i think we (as in me and my brother) figured some out and some was figured out for us. Maybe. It's vague but yeah. Anyway i owned the game so had all the time in the world to figure shit out. But on a gameplay level, it wasn't a hard game. Nowadays if any game tries that kinda shit its on the internet like 2 hours after its release....and thank god because personally i don't have time for this shit. If i'm going around in circles trying to find something for more than 20 mins, off to the internet. I don't see the reward in figuring out myself, i mean it wont overweigh the hour screaming COME ON WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO HERE YOU FUCKING STUPID DEVS to my monitor. There's nothing that pisses me off more than obtuse games. Or like bad level design. I mean i used the internet for something like this just last night, in Dying light, a quest had you try to find lighter gas. I'd looted all kinds of houses in the game and never had got any. The quest didnt tell you where to look. You had to figure out the like two houses that have it in the whole open world for yourself. No. slunken 02-04-2015, 06:14 PM zelda 1 wasnt hard per se but the ga,e is obtuse as hell.. like how am i know some random bush out of 1000 bushes in the game is the one i need to burn to get to the sixth dungeon or whatever yea it sucked because you could only use the once candle once per screen for a while so you had to keep entering and exiting the screen burning bushes. i know later you upgrade to the other candle that what lets you use it twice? anyway - zelda was hard but not that hard. the fucking instruction manual walks you through the first 2 or 3 dungeons ffs slunken 02-04-2015, 06:15 PM Unless of course it's nothing in there but one of the dozen or so dudes that charge you $50 to repair their door. lololol The exploding boy 02-10-2015, 10:51 PM I finished Dying light two days ago. about 55 hours to do 100% (well i didnt do the collections cause theyre retarded in this game, without a guide, fuck it) The basic gameplay of this game is so good it has to be used in something other than a zombie game. As it is it gets a little bleh after 40 hours or so. Still now i don't even think i want to play AC games anymore. the semi on rails parkour will seem really lame in comparison. Anyway now i have nothing to play and it's pissing me off because i need to distract my brain and i'm considering using a 42$ i don't REALLY have and should use to pay my late phone and net bills to buy Elite Dangerous even if i was gonna wait for DLCs before i bothered since gameplay seems rather limited right now. Goddam online non piratable games. Lucky Day Spa 02-10-2015, 11:35 PM wind waker hd was really, really great WHO KNOWS WHAT'S NEXT The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 01:42 AM I just digitally ordered Elite Dangerous. Turns out i'm dumb,i'd converted euros looking at the price, but of course it's pounds. So it was 77 bucks. I already feel guilty for the purchase. then again i feel guilty whenever i pay for anything not basic needs. But yolo. I hear with the current content i may be bored in 2 or 3 weeks but whatever. I REALLY should have waited for decent DLCs... I know no one care. Elphenor 02-11-2015, 04:02 AM wind waker hd was really, really great WHO KNOWS WHAT'S NEXT Damn did you already beat Ocarina AND Wind Waker? I love it, but people don't really seem to talk about it. Skyward Sword is my least favorite Zelda Lucky Day Spa 02-11-2015, 04:51 AM okay, this looks great actually. releases here on saturday so i think i'll go pick up a copy then <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Tqb9q7-XqVo?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 05:03 AM I wanna play that but my Laptop won't run it Ive played about two hours now. No combat yet. Just..these games take forever to familiarize yourself with controls. I can see why people complained about the docking but while my first try took like 15 mins because i didnt understand it switched to landing controls at first, my second time only took about a minute. A shit docking but i suspect it becomes second nature fast. Anyway, its a very science based approach sorta... a whole galaxy is represented. Its unlike any open world space sim ive seen. Zooming in and out the galaxy map is insane. It's millions and millions of dots you can actually fly to without any transitions or loading. No warp gates here. It's 1:1 scale but of course with warp speed on its fast.Still it can take a few mins to travel from system to system (crossing the map through probably take endless hours...possibly days...i don't know) because if you go full speed all the way you'll overshoot it. I have to say because the space is more realistic (every star you see is an actual system) it looks less spectacular than most space sims. In real life space is mainly a lot of black, it's not as cinematic as in films.... this game is mor elike that...instead of overloading the screen with cool looking nebulas and lighting effects. Flying near a star IS pretty sweet though. I'm not sure yet though how this is really more immersive than Evochron Mercenary aside from better graphics (il be honest..i was expecting a bit better than this graphically however...). It'll need the dlcs with walking around sations and ships and then the planetary landings (planets will be full scale too) for the game to really feel more unique. I like that to access any menu you have to look at the proper screen in your ship by turning your head towards it though. But right now that's the thing, outside of flying, its just a lot of menus. Id like to get missions by actually talking to npcs... But i have a feeling in the end i may go for the star warsy feel of Star Citizen more...IF it ever comes out and IF it's as advertised. The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 10:14 PM So the first thing that strikes a new player in this game is how slow yaw is. Thankfully i'd read this wiki first: Why is yaw so slow? There is an inherent flaw with the premise of close combat space flight, leading to endless turreting and circle-strafing especially in PVP multiplayer, due to the lack of terrain features in mid space, compound that with the fact that Elite also features lightspeed pulse and beam lasers making this issue even more apparent. Elite: Dangerous deals with this by limiting the yaw rate and enforce an optimum corner speed by way of thruster placement and limits in the flight control computer, forcing to roll and then pitch to get the most efficient turn rate (less efficient, but most comfortable for a human pilot). And what it results in gameplay wise is actual dogfighting. Like combat is closer to a game like Red Baron (ok i show my age, it's a classic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Baron_(1990_video_game) ) then any space sim i ever played. It's fun and demands some skills. Like unless you have a much better ship than your opponents, i want to say probably should forget about single handedly fighting three or more enemies at once. But i don't know, possibly the later ships might be so powerful it's possible. Right now one on one is all i can manage and even then...if they really got your tail you better work it. Shaking an enemy off can be difficult and losing the tail you had on an enemy can turn the tide around in a few seconds. The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 10:15 PM You know the people who made this game are totes nerds when they explain the reason why all the ships are symetrical in design (and hence perhaps less interesting looking than a lot of ships in sci-fi) is because when they introduce atmospheric flight, it has to make sense (because obviously a hunk of metal like say the millenium falcon wouldn't fly very well in the atmosphere...) Like yeah but you know it doesn't REALLY matter right? You can still make hunks of metal fly in games.... The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 10:16 PM Talking to myself i realise by now...... LaBelle 02-11-2015, 10:17 PM I have been playing Puyopuyo Tetris! http://segabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Puyo-Puyo-Tetris-1.jpg it's pretty dope Elphenor 02-11-2015, 10:18 PM No I read all that, I'd really love to get my hands on that game And PVP awww yeahhh Is it free player killing anywhere? I love the tension you can have if you never know if the person approaching is going to gun you down or cooperate Elphenor 02-11-2015, 10:23 PM I've been playing League of Legends because you can play as a crying Goth mummy kid and it's the shit. Also my friends play and it's unacceptable that they're better than me so I've been secretly practicing The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 11:13 PM I haven't played online yet. I'm waiting until i learned the game a bit better before i subject myself to this (mainly i didn't want to publicly look like a comeplte noob trying to dock my ship the first few times....:-x ITS OK I MEANT TO CRASH IN THIS TOWER LOL). I mean the game FORCES you to be online to play but you can choose the solo option. But yeah the way it works is you can intercept people while they're in supercruise. Or rather interdict they call it. When that happens to you (npcs can also do it to you, it happened to me once) you can, as the interdicted ship, try to reach an "escape vector" which causes you to resume supercruise and escape your "interdictor" (unless you actually want to fight). But anyone can do it to you yeah (i read about it). The thing though is you know the part when i said there's 400 billion star systems? Yeah it pretty much means it's REALLY easy to find a spot no human player ever goes. In fact i haven't done MP but....i have to imagine it COULD lead to things feeling a little empty sometimes. But I suppose people who bother going in MP WILL bother trying to form like factions and stuff. I imagine its probably in general more cooperative than aggressive in MP. But griefers will grief.... The exploding boy 02-11-2015, 11:21 PM I like that when i normal like combat speed if you target like a nearby star it will tell you ETA is about like 30 years. Which means that IF you do elect to not go into supercruise, flying to the star WILL actually take you 30 years in real time... OF course you can cut this down to just minutes... I wonder if hardcore rpers stuck in space with banged up engines will decide to play for like ten years just so they can reach the closest station. "Shit...can't get into supercruise... well i guess this is the only way.....i hope my friends will still be playing in ten years" I have to say in Evochron i was once running out of fuel and used the last bit i had to set myself on a course towards the nearest star. It took like an hour (during which i could not move my ship at all so i just like...sat and waitedl) but once i got near i used the tractor beam i had outfitted to transform the star's enegry into fuel (not quit sure how it works, don't ask) to refill my "tanks". That's a bit hardcore rping but Evochron isn't 1:1 scale and an hour isn't ten years. noyen 02-11-2015, 11:31 PM I got an Xbox one for my bday and so far it's only sorta worth the upgrade. In a year it will be amazing though. I started playing far cry 4 and.... Wow. pretty amazing visuals and I like the gameplay. noyen 02-11-2015, 11:31 PM Oh and geometry wars 3 I'm sure is amazing being so high right now. noyen 02-11-2015, 11:33 PM I'm also an addict of civilization revolution on the 360. Also it's really bad at the new tactical combat so the only way to make it challenging is to play on a difficulty that gives them advantages. I was wayyy disappointed when I first played the game coming from Civ4 but it caught up after the expansions, and now I'm just annoyed that diplomacy no longer exists Elphenor 02-12-2015, 12:41 AM But the new one unit per space thing is an upgrade. No more putting all your units into one stack of doom with infinite bonuses Trotskilicious 02-12-2015, 12:42 AM i really fucking hate the warmonger trait that lasts until the end of time, it makes the game fucking boring. it's a peacenik civ and i don't think selecting buildings to build is fun i liked the tactical end okay but the computer is breathtakingly stupid and yes the unit limit is way better than anything before, and i especially like that you can essentially upgrade most of them all the way forward Elphenor 02-12-2015, 12:44 AM Oh yeah, that's part of problem. You take a City State that's blocking you, and Civs on the other side of the map declare War on you and it's like what the fuck To me, the whole reason those things should exist is to give you something to plunder, fuck giving them free shit Trotskilicious 02-12-2015, 12:46 AM something happens in the middle ages and everyone is still mad at you in modern times, even if you've been their BFF since it's goddamn annoying Elphenor 02-12-2015, 12:49 AM It's funny though once you get to the World Embassy or whatever stage, the Civs start to vote on stuff and they always make whatever resources you're getting bonuses from illegal. They once voted to outlaw sugar because I had a bunch of it and it ruined me Trotskilicious 02-12-2015, 12:52 AM also dumb as shit it's an incredibly overrated game Trotskilicious 02-12-2015, 12:52 AM xcom tho is tight The exploding boy 02-12-2015, 12:57 AM They once voted to outlaw sugar because I had a bunch of it and it ruined me haha. That is really funny to me. Outlaw sugar... right. Elphenor 02-12-2015, 01:22 AM also dumb as shit it's an incredibly overrated game Yeah especially before the expansions I was shocked at the reviews it was getting from IGN and the like. It was like they didn't even play it. Trotskilicious 02-12-2015, 02:55 AM they don't they get paid to review those things well, ethics in gaming journalism Elphenor 02-12-2015, 03:12 AM GAMERGATE FoolofaTook 02-13-2015, 07:05 PM I am playing quake cos my laptop sucketh. I last played quake in 99. I want to play heart of the swarm. I hate being worthless. :( FoolofaTook 02-13-2015, 07:05 PM all those sentences began with "I" I just thought I would point that out. Trotskilicious 02-13-2015, 07:55 PM I finally finished a game of ck2 Right at the end i had a couple retard kings even tho i avoided incest so i changed to elective monarchy so i wouldnt have a tard king then it was 30 years of relentless instability and uprisings which i made worse by changing it to tanistry. i usurped the kingdom of scotland but because i couldnt change the law i switched back to primogeniture for ireland and then handed off the kingdom of scotland tomy heir so hed just combine kingdoms when his dad died and i woulfnt worry abt losing the fucking kingdom it took me 400 fucking years to assimilate. It gets annoying how you cant press multiple claims and you have to play guessing games to try and take duchies. And you cant war for whole kingdom unless your king is the claimant otherwise you just put some other asshole on the throne. Loading boats gets super old and micro quickly. Would still play again but gonna try to go faster Trotskilicious 02-13-2015, 07:57 PM Still i must be missing something Trotskilicious 02-13-2015, 07:59 PM The Uh Conchobair (O'Connor) family tree was labrinthine and held counties in england, orkney, even found one of them in spain Lucky Day Spa 02-13-2015, 08:03 PM i played the swapper yesterday on ps vita sci-fi setting, puzzle platforming, kinda philosophical plot = hello please really good. would be better on a larger screen with a wasd/mouse interface i think, but it played well enough with the vita's dual analogue sticks hnibos 02-13-2015, 08:24 PM like 10 hours into citizens of earth on ps4. mindless jrps/earthbound-y. it's ok if you're stoned with nothing better to do The exploding boy 02-13-2015, 08:33 PM The Uh Conchobair (O'Connor) family tree was labrinthine and held counties in england, orkney, even found one of them in spain In my first game, the only one i finished so far (i'm more the type to play a game once but do it slowly, though i have a second game but i stopped because it was too easy the second time around within not even a hundred years i went from independent count in brittany to king of england) i cant remember all but i had kings in leon for many decades (i actually helped them keep the throne once or twice) one queen of Norway and one or two emperor of Byzantine in my line. Actually i checked once for fun and even when it wasn't my dynasty in the byzantine, for about 300 years i married daughters to their emperors so often that pretty much every single byzantine ruler for nearly my whole game could be traced back to my first count. But of course if you check married daughters you'll find out you have a lot of rulers traced to your line. About succession laws, did you notice that ultimogeniture is pretty much the best option? It kinda made things too easy once i figured that out. I mean because your last in line will likely inherit really young which means their reign will likely be long which means they have a lot more time to be liked and towards the end of their reign it's always really easy cause everyone loves you. I switched to ultimogeniture after about 50 years and never went back. the only drawback is they might inherit TOO young. Like not adult yet. But usually that'll be only for a few years. There's nothing more annoying then rulers dying within like ten years of one another. This prevent that. I hate feeling like i have to rush to prepare things for the next ruler. When they always inherit around 40 you never know, they could last another 40 or die tomorrow. LaBelle 02-13-2015, 08:59 PM Just got Majora's Mask 3d. I've never played it before. Hope it's good. Trotskilicious 02-13-2015, 09:20 PM Ariel, i really dont like managing regencies so primogeniture is my standby Tchocky 02-13-2015, 10:12 PM Playing that new sci-fi Civ game. Plays like a watered-down Civ V for the most part. Too easy to conquer cities. Too much emphasis on combat. Diplomacy is even more useless in this game than it is in Civ V. Still, it's fun and everything. Might be better after a few expansions. Tchocky 02-13-2015, 10:15 PM A friend of mine bought my little group Borderlands 2 on Steam. Fun so far. Weapons feel a little underpowered and there's a lot of aimless roaming around, but damn it it's addictive...adventure FPS RPG with an emphasis on loot...good game to play with a group. Voice acting is top-notch. noyen 02-14-2015, 12:05 AM I own gamergate.rocks and gamergate.biz Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 12:20 AM civ beyond earth was so obvs what it is, amazes me ppl get suckered by shit like that Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 12:21 AM A friend of mine bought my little group Borderlands 2 on Steam. Fun so far. Weapons feel a little underpowered and there's a lot of aimless roaming around, but damn it it's addictive...adventure FPS RPG with an emphasis on loot...good game to play with a group. Voice acting is top-notch. game came out 3 years ago. and was is massively popular Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 12:23 AM he guys i just played this game called skyrim, unusual indie game but a real gem it merges fps and rpgs. story is light but the open world is so much fun Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 03:52 AM i prefer their earlier work LaBelle 02-14-2015, 04:00 AM I also bought the new Monster Hunter because hunting monsters is fun! Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:05 AM please let me know how you get on with that. majora's mask will be my next 3ds game but there's not much else coming down the pipe that looks promising. i've not played any of the monster hunter games before; have you? Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 04:06 AM i'm really mean to tchocky, i realize after the fact that it's tchocky i'm being mean to again Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 04:10 AM but i just started playing this game it's called diablo and it's an RPG that it's not as fussy as some of the other ones. More point and click and make things explode. It's real cool i can see it being real popular. Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:20 AM ever played any zeldas, trots Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:21 AM i can definitely provide some quality trite write-ups of very popular zeldas that have been around for years Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 04:28 AM you know i played the NES one but i didn't have it so i never got far then i got a genesis because i'm just relentlessly contrarian even when i don't even know it so i missed out on the zeldaing i remember renting zelda 2 and not getting past some part and losing my mind over it, these days i just know it was something really basic LaBelle 02-14-2015, 04:29 AM please let me know how you get on with that. majora's mask will be my next 3ds game but there's not much else coming down the pipe that looks promising. i've not played any of the monster hunter games before; have you? Yes, I played 100 hours of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. It is a ton of fun, but the controls and gameplay take a lot of getting used to. Lots of long animations that you get stuck in. So you have to time your attacks well or else you get killed pretty fast. Yeah there's not much coming out this year for the 3ds, but I think Codename S.T.E.A.M looks awesome, and there's a new Fire Emblem out this year. But the game I can't wait to play the most is Persona 5, but that's not on the 3ds. Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 04:30 AM i hear so much about persona LaBelle 02-14-2015, 04:33 AM I love the Persona games, 4 is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 04:34 AM are they jrpgs? Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:49 AM i spent a few hours on persona 4 golden. the story and town gameplay were more fun than i expected but i didn't enjoy the combat/dungeons at all Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:52 AM i'm probably far too used to the latter-day streamlined final fantasy battle systems, though. my tedium threshold is very low LaBelle 02-14-2015, 04:57 AM Yes, but instead of a fantasy setting you play as a "normal" high school kid. The game progresses one day at a time, and you decide what you want to do each day. https://keikakudoori.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/persona-4-anime-calendar.png You have to balance how often you get into dungeons with doing after school activities or hanging out with your party members (which will develop your relationship with them and in turn they become better during fights). LaBelle 02-14-2015, 05:00 AM i spent a few hours on persona 4 golden. the story and town gameplay were more fun than i expected but i didn't enjoy the combat/dungeons at all Yeah the combat is pretty basic. I think it gets more interesting on higher levels when you can fuse better, more powerful Personas and the enemies get way better at exploiting your party weaknesses. LaBelle 02-14-2015, 05:09 AM I had never played a Zelda game before. So I dedicated most of my gaming time to playing Zelda games last year. I played and beat Ocarina of Time 3d, A Link To The Past, Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds, those were really great games. Elphenor 02-14-2015, 11:51 AM i can definitely provide some quality trite write-ups of very popular zeldas that have been around for years Bring it on Lucky Day Spa 02-14-2015, 04:29 PM when you discover a secret, this weird little piece of music plays and makes you feel real badass, bro Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 05:18 PM Dodongo dislikes smoke. It's a secret to everybody The exploding boy 02-14-2015, 05:55 PM The funny thing to me is i partly learned english through video games and the majority of nes games had horrible engrish. It didn't occur to me then that they were full of mistakes or funny phrasing. Like i owned Pro Wrestling and A Winner is You didn't seem wrong to me. So much hilarious lost on me. I remember though the end of P.O.W said Congraturations and i knew by then it was lations but i thought it was just a typo, it was only a few years later i'd learn about the l and r thing with japanese. ALso i remember when you died in arcade Operation Wolf it would say something like you died from your injuries and because in french injures is swearing, i thought they meant you died swearing. like "goddam you motherfucking assholes". But in this case of course it was me not understanding english properly, the game wrote it fine. The exploding boy 02-14-2015, 05:58 PM Oh yeah and i also owned Bad Dudes and "are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?" while proper is still retarded sounding and i also didn't pick up on that. Tchocky 02-14-2015, 06:03 PM http://www.11points.com/images/nesenglish/prowrestling.png Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 06:13 PM original metal gear: THE TRUCK HAVE STARTED TO MOVE Order 66 02-14-2015, 06:14 PM I FEEL ASLEEP The exploding boy 02-14-2015, 07:22 PM Here's a cool story bro from my childhood. We're at this small corner store in my 2500 people hometown where we rent 95% of our NES games and this guy is bringing back a game, he looked old to me but realistically must have been maybe 20 (it seemed to me only kids played video games then, the year would have been 1988) and he puts it on the counter and starts telling the clerk and owner who i believe had a limited or perhaps no interest in games about how he'd never heard of this game but that it was pretty damn good and then he goes on describing it and finishes telling the clerk to recommend the game to customers. Me and my brother were on our way out as that happened, about to go home empty handed since there was nothing we wished to rent, we wait for the guy to finish and exit then ask the clerk if actually we could rent whatever game he was on about. That game was... Metal Gear. We never owned the game (somehow hile we had great taste in games we only mainly actually owned shit) but rented it at least a dozen times in the time we owned a nes. I remember the second one too which we had a lot of expectations for but the american second one (id find out years later) was not at all the same game as the japanese sequel (and is in fact not considered part of continuity) and it kinda sucked in comparison. Apparently the japanese sequel was better than the original And technically it's UH-OH the truck have started to move. Its weir Metal gear then always seemed to me like a pretty fringe game (probably wasn't as much as i thought but like people in shcool never once talked about it which is how i gauged a games success) so when metal gear solid came out i remember being really surprised they'd continued the franchise. The exploding boy 02-14-2015, 07:23 PM Oh yeah i remember my brother being the genius that he was actually had started figuring out the password codes to this game. Meaning he had figured out how to enter passwords that actually worked and gave you shit you might have wanted to have in your inventory (though he hadn't figured it out to an exact science, but he'd figured some of it out). Crazy. I remember he entered one that started us at the end (which at that point we had never reached) but with almost nothing. It was probably simpler than it seems but to the kid i was (he was too) he seemed like a fucking genius. But at that age he was alreayd programming some simple games on our computer so..he must have understood a lot of shit i didnt Tchocky 02-14-2015, 08:50 PM http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/dXbp6y_7eac/hqdefault.jpg I still think this is funny. Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 09:27 PM i am error, too Order 66 02-14-2015, 10:11 PM i know that was the dark age of game localization. but some of those games.. man you really got to wonder. how could so few fucks be given? its not like those were text heavy games Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 10:19 PM they were translated by japanese speakers i know thats a fact for zero wing Order 66 02-14-2015, 10:23 PM hmph i don't know why i never figured that.. so blatantly obvs Trotskilicious 02-14-2015, 10:28 PM games still cut corners back in them days it was still touch and go Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 12:36 AM you son of a submariner LaBelle 02-15-2015, 01:24 AM http://m0.her.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Big-Rigs-Over-the-Road-Racing.jpg Lucky Day Spa 02-15-2015, 01:32 AM spoony bards all round anyone played bravely default? Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 01:43 AM oh man spoony bard i think the FF stuff was translated by an american but the slang and profanity he changed to spoony bard and son of a submariner he's apparently a major fetish of derision amongst final fantasy otaku Order 66 02-15-2015, 01:50 AM good ol' ted woolsey i thought he was serviceable. the original dialogue was never shakespeare to begin with when you think about it (if the hardcore fanslations truly are more reflective of the real thing). also he had to work with larger fonts in those tiny text boxes Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 01:53 AM and he was under a budget and on a crazy deadline and spoony bard/son of a submariner are great contributions to game culture Order 66 02-15-2015, 02:04 AM there was quality control too. when i was 15 i was in awe of FF7's candor to keep the SHITs and ASSs but ted's games never had anything like this http://www.vintagevideogamer.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Battle-arena.jpg Lucky Day Spa 02-15-2015, 02:14 AM i downloaded the demo but couldn't get into it. if you like oldschool final fantasy it should be right up your alley. but i mean, like, NES oldschool it doesn't suck but i need to be in the right kind of mood to play those games i didn't realise there was a demo. i'll give that a go, thanks i played the 3d remakes of final fantasy iii and iv on the ds years ago. i guess i'd say i enjoyed both with reservations. iv definitely had the better story Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 02:14 AM barret's profanity filter would have been served better by wooley's invented insults LaBelle 02-15-2015, 02:32 AM I beat the first dungeon in Majora's Mask today, the Woodfall Temple. And rescued the Deku Princess by putting her in a bottle to save a monkey. What a weird, weird game. The exploding boy 02-15-2015, 07:49 AM I'm gonna nerd out harcore in a bit as usual and pretty much write a sorta review of Elite Dangerous so far (which no one will give a shit about) which i've been doing for half my days the past few.... but first i couldn't resist posting some of those shots i took to sell my brother on the game (it worked): http://s25.postimg.org/g46j3iiy7/Elite_Dangerous55.png http://s25.postimg.org/6kwua1vfz/Elite_Dangerous32_2015_02_14_06_02_45_64.png That's my SAWEET looking Core Dynamics Eagle. First ship i bought yet, not much better than the starting one but much better looking. I have to admit, i did pay 3.50$ USD for that paint though, the original was green (the decals, i won legit however). But being that paint is the only microtransactions they have so far, it shouldn't become a habit. http://s25.postimg.org/q07m35oq7/Elite_Dangerous32_2015_02_14_06_09_04_12.png Cockpit view docked at a giant rotating station. http://s25.postimg.org/p9evxdmcv/Elite_Dangerous32_2015_02_14_06_11_03_91.png Coming into the above http://s25.postimg.org/9mnmk08kv/Elite_Dangerous32_2015_02_15_03_27_33_99.png looking to the left, passing a ship on a landing pad at one of those smaller "outside" stations". A BIT disappointed you don't see the pilot though.. a bit.. Star Citizen don't let me down. The exploding boy 02-15-2015, 07:50 AM fuck this actually, its way to late to write anything probably super long no one will read. maybe tomorrow. need strength for proper unedited nerd out. Elphenor 02-15-2015, 01:35 PM That looks amazing. If I had the computer power... The exploding boy 02-15-2015, 04:31 PM To be honest this game will be worth it a lot more in about a year or two from now anyway (so save up for a new pc in the meantime). Though by then it might be overshadowed by Star Citizen. We'll see. SC is taking a long time (not that that s a bad thing but everyone who remembers Roberts from the 90's knows he had a tendency to want to bite off more than he could chew and the scope of SC sounds like classic Roberts...), to the extent you have to wonder if you can believe any supposed release date they give (it was supposed to be running by end of 2014 at some point), but Elite kinda jumped the gun. Probably actually because they realised the closer to SC they released, the worst for them (Elite may have gotten a handful of mils on kickstarter, SC has made like 65 millions from crowdfunding so far...clearly it's the more anticipated game) It's not complete yet. I mean the presentation is flawless, there's no bugs or anything, and what is there IS fun and fucntional, but it's still lacking features. I think Braben and co figured everyone impatiently waiting to play SC would be happy to get their hands on Elite in the meantime... and perhaps they think in the end they won't want to invest their time and money in another game in the genre once they got deep enough into Elite. We're supposed to get planetary landings on 1:1 scale at some point and before that, walking inside your ship (the bigger ones) and into stations (i would expect this before the year is over for sure). It would sure help immersion a lot. I am worried though that Frontier Development doesn't have the kind of money SC got so i have to wonder that without sub fees, if they can properly fund any future updates. I think the game sold 300 000 copies which isn't bad but I wonder if that's on target. the future content dlcs will not be free sure but they won't be the price of a game either so can they really pay for the development?... the problem is if all reviews say wait until later before playing, which most are, it might cause the devs to run out of cash in the meantime...and then nobody gets to play it later. I ended up writing a semi review (more like impressions and experience) of the game on a space sim forum (actually the Evochron one), maybe i'll post that later though i think only you is interested in this game around here. Whoever between Elite or SC ends up being the better one anyway, for a space sim fan like me, to use a tired cliche, it's like all my christmases came at once. there will be a loser but it won't be the player The exploding boy 02-15-2015, 04:31 PM ^ this was gonna be in my mind a short reply. That's what my short ones look like. Lucky Day Spa 02-15-2015, 05:17 PM i didn't realise there was a demo. i'll give that a go, thanks i played the 3d remakes of final fantasy iii and iv on the ds years ago. i guess i'd say i enjoyed both with reservations. iv definitely had the better story well, i've sunk a couple of hours into the bravely default demo and it's even more like a final fantasy than i was expecting. i'ma order it Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 07:05 PM wow arial that looks way cool, is that a f2p game ? I feel like i heard something about something like that anyway it's nba all star weekend and as such they have offered a free weekend of nba 2k15 and it's kinda fun, as frustrating as ever tho however the new gm mode seems interesting, and has little perks like <img src="http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/540766501031663169/1E1F09666D5833E7051D60FA6856C88FAEE9D467/1024x576.resizedimage"> Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 07:05 PM that's my GM with the mohawk Order 66 02-15-2015, 07:16 PM ketntavious gon get his work Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 08:16 PM i really hope that guy actually speaks in the third person irl hnibos 02-15-2015, 09:09 PM Gm and owner modes etc. are always so underwhelming and I'm always so disappointed. Probably because a lot of people don't care and they want to dump a lot of time in it? dk With that said I'm always going to play them. Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 10:34 PM i gave up on the basketball game, they changed the shooting rhythm and now it fucking sucks. i can't shoot threes with players who make threes, i shoot like 35% unless i'm doing pick and roll and at the basket play. they fixed the goddamn impossible fucking paint shit from last year which made no sense but at the expense of making it impossible to shoot a three pointer in a game that's supposed to represent real life basketball? i guess they spent most of their time updating the graphics and setting up all the virtual currency bullshit that these fucking mouthbreathers gobble up like they have some kind of mental deficiency. Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 10:37 PM Gm and owner modes etc. are always so underwhelming and I'm always so disappointed. play footy manager i enjoy playing a 30 team franchise on 2k. unfortunately my last one got about 3 or 4 seasons in before it bugged and the pistons and timberwolves had 0-0 records into december so i was pretty annoyed 2k15 has the new myGM mode could be fun but it's got a lot of stupid dated slang in it and then trades are fucking impossible i had drafted a fantasy roster and i ended up with rubio which was a bad pick, game thinks he sucks i think he's actually better w/e, anyway i'm trying to trade him for george hill. game wants me to give them jason terry and rubio for george hill and jordan farmar i say no, i would like aminu instead of farmar other gm says no okay then i'll take fucking kevin seraphim instead of farmar other gm says no okay then i'll take farmar and trade him so then when i try to find trades for farmar guess what his old team is offering? Kevin Seraphim and Aminu. but i have to give up a 1st rounder as far as i can tell the CPU GMs do not accept proposed trades or renegotiated trade finder trades. Ultimately you have to fleece yourself to get anything, like giving up a draft pick for the likes of seraphim and aminu, and for that matter why can't i just trade hill for rubio straight up? no you have to take a point guard you don't like or want or need the game quite frankly sucks and is unfinished but that's not really a surprise ultimately the gameplay could save all of this but they inexplicably changed the shooting rhythm (the number of travels i got in my first two or three games were enraging) and now essentially require you to hit it on the nose to make a three it just completely ruined everyting. picks are incredibly easy but instead of opening three point shooters you get easy dunks. it's like they didn't watch the nba for the past 5 years this game usually makes me mad but 2k15 is unplayable Trotskilicious 02-15-2015, 10:41 PM oh yeah and if you do a fantasy draft all 29 computer teams get to hit FA to fill in the last roster 3 spots before you even get to do anything. so you're set there picking through total garbage LaBelle 02-15-2015, 10:48 PM Today I followed a giant owl by jumping on invisible platforms. Then proceeded to climb an invisible ladder to talk to a ghost. Mooney 02-15-2015, 11:06 PM i picked up rayman legends during a ps4 flash sale for $10. i've been meaning to play it for awhile because a bunch of people say its their favourite platformer ever. i'm having a lot of fun so far. Lucky Day Spa 02-15-2015, 11:12 PM i really enjoyed rayman origins on the vita is legends still on sale? edit: i checked and nope Tchocky 02-16-2015, 03:02 AM Playing Limbo on my phone (it just came out for Android). Spooky as hell. Lucky Day Spa 02-16-2015, 03:05 AM ah, that's a great game. nice and short too Elphenor 02-16-2015, 03:06 AM I'm a Rayman super fan. The original Rayman will forever be the best and most infuriatingly difficult platformer ever. Rayman Origins was better than Rayman Legends (Unless you're playing with friends), but they're both fantastic games Elphenor 02-16-2015, 03:36 AM I played an NBA 2k game a bunch a couple of years ago and I always found it was easier to dunk or shoot a 3 than it was to sink a close 2 which was virtually impossible. This resulted in games always being ridiculous dunk contests Lucky Day Spa 02-17-2015, 01:43 AM well, i've sunk a couple of hours into the bravely default demo and it's even more like a final fantasy than i was expecting. i'ma order it update: i ordered it and have stopped playing the demo with characters on level 14. it was tempting to keep going even after i ran out of stuff to do, which is a good sign. if you like snes-era final fantasies and have a 3ds, bravely default seems like a pretty safe bet. just me? oh Trotskilicious 02-17-2015, 03:18 AM I played an NBA 2k game a bunch a couple of years ago and I always found it was easier to dunk or shoot a 3 than it was to sink a close 2 which was virtually impossible. Sad. Elphenor 02-18-2015, 07:55 PM maybe on easy there's a lot of points ehre your player attempts a pull up 8 foot jumper that get realy annoying Do you like the My Player mode or whatever where it's like a Basketball RPG? I played the shit out of that hnibos 02-18-2015, 07:55 PM If I didn't spend so much money on weed and fucking chicken wings I might be able to splurge and not feel guilty. I could still splurge but I would feel hella guilty. hnibos 02-18-2015, 07:56 PM Those player modes are a lot of fun. The one on fifa is awesome. Alas, I have more fun beating people on ultimate team. Elphenor 02-18-2015, 07:57 PM League of Legends bruh it's free toase 02-18-2015, 08:16 PM turns out I suck or my gamepad sucks o both Rairun 02-18-2015, 08:34 PM i picked up rayman legends during a ps4 flash sale for $10. i've been meaning to play it for awhile because a bunch of people say its their favourite platformer ever. i'm having a lot of fun so far. I'm playing Legends with my girlfriend at the moment, and we played Origins over Christmas/New Year's. Both are great games. The gratuitous sexism is annoying, but that's my only complaint. Platformers don't get any better than this. Rairun 02-18-2015, 08:36 PM I've been playing Fifa 14 quite a bit, but that's mostly because I can listen to music while playing. I can't really play Grim Fandango with the sound off. Elphenor 02-18-2015, 08:37 PM If I had a gf who would play Rayman with me I would be sooooo happpy Elphenor 02-18-2015, 08:38 PM http://cdn.meme.am/images/8689594.jpg hnibos 02-18-2015, 08:41 PM I've been playing Fifa 14 quite a bit, but that's mostly because I can listen to music while playing. Get 15 and play meeeeeeeeeee Rairun 02-18-2015, 08:51 PM If I had a gf who would play Rayman with me I would be sooooo happpy She grew up playing Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Final Fantasy 6 through 9, etc, but except for a Banjo-Kazooie stint on an emulator, she hadn't really touched video games in the past decade. But I finally got her to try Rayman, and she's having a good time. :D I'm not sure how easy it's going to be to move on to other co-op games, though. Get 15 and play meeeeeeeeeee I would! But I kind of refuse to give EA that much money, so I'll probably only get 15 a couple of months after 16 is released. That's what I did with 13 and 14. They cost me about £7 each. hnibos 02-18-2015, 08:53 PM  Rairun 02-18-2015, 08:56 PM http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/cutting_edge.png This actually happened to me.
