But you can't get into any of their other ones?

For me, Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible is one of the best albums ever made. A fully realized concept album about all the filth and disease in the modern world, with creatively distributed guitar parts and more anthemic choruses than I would expect from an album of said concept. I like this more every time I listen to it, and that's about 2 years of listens so far.

I just can't seem to get into anything else - I've heard a song here and there, and I've heard "Everything Must Go" and "Gold Against the Soul", which are the albums that sandwich the one I like.

It's reasonable, though, since the guitarist/main songwriter offed himself and/or disappeared after The Holy Bible. Really tragic stuff.

The Killers - Hot Fuss

They got further away from post-punk and dance-punk on their subsequent albums going into a synth pop and Bruce Springsteen direction that I didn't really like.

Gorillaz - Self Titled

They abandoned the trip hop that made me fall in love with their first album in favor of dance-pop.

You should check out Journal For Plague Lovers. Its in the same vein and 100% of the lyrics are Richey's.

He wasn't the main songwriter, though, (he wrote the majority of lyrics for THB, none of the music) and didn't play a note of guitar on the album.

This.

Dinosaur Jr is legendary. Just went to the Bug tour on Sunday and it was incredible. Funny how many people like Where You Been/Without A Sound more than the original three records!!

They played for 1:05 according to my friend who is pretty notoriously anal about timing bands we see. I missed the pushing guy which is weird since I was maybe 3 people off the rail right in front of J.

Dino never plays a super long set, but that was particularly egregiously short. Always worth the price of admission.

EDIT: My mistake, I went Monday in Raleigh, not Sunday in... DC?

God dammit they played Forget the Swan two nights after I saw them...

Yes, they did. It seemed very spur of the moment because Rollins spent so much time asking about what the very first songs they completed were for Dinosaur and they all commented on Forget The Swan repeatedly. One of the best off the first LP. ... But we probably shouldn't swing this thread too OT with too much Dino Jr chat.

He didn't play any guitar? What?

Yeah, James Dean Bradfield is the musical talent in that band...chief songwriter and a mean guitarist. Richey was the tortured poet/lyrical genius pinup in eyeliner who just had to come to a tragic and mysterious end (there are as many conspiracy theories as there are for Kurt), but he couldn't really play.

THB is the most satisfying (and unsettling) of their albums, but I love the pop side of Everything Must Go and Send Away The Tigers. I even enjoyed This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, which seems to be the album most people hate on. Know Your Enemy was shite, though.

Beyond is pretty freaking great, but Farm is kinda mediocre. The only truly bad Dino Jr record is Hand It Over, the 1997 No-Lou-or-Murph record. Its been out of print for a bit, and no one even seems to care. I don't think J has played any track from it with either the Fog or the reunited Dino Jr. Pretty ugh.

the guy who said At the drive in makes me sad. Every album is good and In/Casino/Out and Vaya Ep are masterpieces as well as Relationship of Command. I think some people just are shocked by the lower production values on the earlier releases and don't give them a chance.

I would have to say:

The Cure. Disintegration is pretty good but the rest of the albums that I have checked out are too hit and miss for me. lots of good singles though.

Beach Boys: Pet Sounds is the only full album I can enjoy.

The Cure.

I've heard World of Noise once or twice but not enough to remember any of it. SOAD to me is just a few very memorable singles and that made the album. I was never a huge fan of that style but it was sorta semi groundbreaking at the time (to me - a smaller wave version of RATM when they released their debut album).

Three Imaginary Boys (and pretty much every single song they recorded around that time) is fucking great.

I love The Cure, but Disintegration is, imo, one of their weaker pre-Wish albums. I've never really understood why most people hailed it as their best.
