'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn died early Monday in a Pennsylvania car crash. April Margera, the mother of a fellow 'Jackass' dare devil, Bam Margera, confirmed to TMZ that Dunn was killed in the car wreck that also left one other, who has yet to be identified, dead.

The 34-year-old was a part of the 'Jackass' film franchise -- often pulling off eyebrow raising stunts to the delight of his fellow thrill-seeking buddies.

Just hours before his death, Dunn tweeted photo of himself and two pals -- documenting their night out, beer and cigarette in hand.

Although it has not yet been confirmed who was driving the vehicle when it crashed or the cause of the accident, according to Chester County's Daily Local News, Chief Deputy Coroner David Garner confirmed that there was only one vehicle involved in the crash.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident," police said in a statement.

96.1's The Morning Freak Show is reporting that Dunn was at the wheel when his Porsche careened over the road's guardrail and into the woods before bursting into flames. The collision occurred at roughly 3:00 AM Monday morning on Pennsylvania's Route 322.

The identity of Dunn's passenger will be revealed pending autopsy results due out later today.

HAHA! I LIVED LONGER THAN HIM!!! HAVE FUN IN HELL RYAN!!!

Sad. I'd see him around everynow and then since we live in the same area. Really cool guy who was approachable, completely unlike Bam in that regard.

Fucking sucks, and exaxtly where that is that he crashed too. Also by the picture of him last night I'm pretty sure I know what bar he was at.

sppunk is actually Roger Ebert!

So news of the drunk driving death of Dunn hit Twitter and he has stayed a trending topic all day. The most high profile person to tweet something controversial about the death was Roger Ebert. He tweeted this a little over an hour ago -

@ebertchicago
Roger EbertFriends don’t let jackasses drink and drive. 1 hour ago via SocialOomph · powered by @socialditto

Ouch. Is Ebert’s comment made in poor taste? Or does he have a point? Even if he does have a point, is it simply too soon?

Many of Ebert’s Twitter followers aren’t happy with the comment. One user says “that was in disgustingly poor taste.” Another tweets “why is this a joke; he is still a person, have some respect.” One simply tweets “You’re an asshole.”

I happen to love Roger Ebert, who I believe is a national treasure. A statement like the one he made is loaded with intricacies. Sure, drunk driving is dumb and it puts other people’s lives at risk. And another person did die in this accident besides Dunn. But the death is quite tragic and no matter what, he is still a human being with family and friends. Maybe 140 characters isn’t the best place to make a statement on a complicated issue.

No they don't, dick head.

And speeding whilst drunk is FUCKING STUPID. Honestly to leave the road in a 911 GT3 with it's awesome level of grip you have to be driving like a complete cunt. To crash it so badly that it bursts into flames and is pulled out as a crispy piece of tinfoil you have to have been driving at such a stupid speed (at night) that's it's only really possible when you're blown out of your mind on alcohol.

People who speed, speed regardless. Drinking and driving doesn't automatically make you start driving all recklessly. When I used to drive after drinking I would always go at most the the speed limit and be very cautious.

Besides he wasn't even drunk, he had 6 drinks over a 4 hour period. 3 of those drinks were miller light. He just drove fast and lost control, or who knows a deer might have ran out of in front of the car and caused him to swerve and lose control.

Speeding is what killed him, not drinking and driving.

Bull. Some people who usually speed may think "wait a minute I've been drinking, better be careful". Some people who normally speed may also speed when drunk. And some people who dont normally speed may speed when blootered out their mind on drink.

In this case here this is what we have to go on: the guy is well known for doing crazy shit. He was out at 3am in the morning driving with a mate, more than likely they had been drinking and were on their way home. The guy has a 911, not just any 911 but a really fast one. So he likes speed. Speed plus alcohol = trouble.

It's just sad his friend died too.

As someone who knew Ryan in real life and considered him a friend, this is really fucking terrible. Ryan was a GREAT guy in real life. He always made time to chat with his fans when we were out somewhere together. I've even seen him pick up a check before for a group of fans that were sitting near his table. Dude was just a really great guy and had a really big heart. When I was going through some hard times a few years back and did some jail time, Ryan called my family several times and asked them if there was any thing he could do for them. He was also the only friend to send me commissary money even though I never asked and the only one to write to me on a regular basis, even though he was totally busy filming Jackass 2 at the time. Just a straight stand-up guy.

He made a terrible choice/mistake and ended up paying the ultimate price for it. If he were here, he'd be the first one to say so himself. Anyway, I just wanted to put that out there so maybe you guys could lay off him a little bit. This was a real human being after all, and a great one at that.

A while ago, my step brother, his father and his best friend, also a good friend of mine, went tenpin bowling. When they got in the car to leave, it wouldn't start. They didn't stay far so the guys decided to walk while his dad stayed on to try sort out the car. They had to cross over a 4 lane road that can get quite busy sometimes. As they got to the other side and were about to climb the barrier, a drunk driver on the far lane lost control and swerved right into them, killing them both instantly.
A friend worked as a paramedic who was on the scene, and I guess details got out over time, that Bruce had his one whole leg severed off, Johnny was decapitated.
The driver went into a coma but recovered in the end.

I dont tell people that very often. We were pretty close. I have very good memories of being 14 / 15 and doing crazy shit with Bruce and Johnny, who were a few years older. They are some cherished memories of mine.
A few weeks back someone was saying something about the name Bruce, and I said to my girlfriend of almost 2 years, 'I used to have a brother called Bruce!' and she was kinda suprised that I had never told her that. I dont know, is that weird? We weren't blood relations, his father married my mother. But great guy. Both of them.

No because the dangers of drunk driving are horribly exaggerated. People who drive recklessly will drive recklessly whether they are drunk or not. People who don't drive recklessly wont suddenly start driving recklessly if they are an experienced drunk driver. That's just how it is. It's a huge fucking joke the moral high horse everyone rides on concerning it.

I can't wait until the reports come out in 4-6 weeks that show that Dunn wasn't intoxicated. This isn't a drunk driving incident, it was a speeding incident. He was driving really fast on a straight empty highway and something went wrong. If I had to guess a deer ran out in front of him which caused him to swerve and lose control.

And LOL at whoever just said that he could have killed other people on the road. It was 3 AM Monday morning. There is no one on that road at 3 AM Monday morning.

It's not an oxymoron though. If I ever drink and drive, my friends trust me to drive them. Same goes for if they are drinking and driving, I trust them. I mean there are studies on it that if you drive the same routes while drunk that you will be perfectly fine driving those routes. Even more so, you can drive perfectly fine after drinking if you do it responsibly. Just put some music on, chill out, drive no faster than the speed limit, and focus on staying as perfectly center in the lines as you can. You'll drive much better than you will sober because you will be putting so much more thought into driving well.

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/06/21/2966164/jackass-star-dunn-had-received.html

Westboro is trying to protest the funeral and any public memorial services.

I wonder if the Jackass cast is going to be around in West Chester this weekend.

edit: Also the article pretty much states what I've said. He was just speeding. He liked to drive fast. I doubt alcohol played really any part in this. Just an unfortunate incident to occur that goes along with the danger of driving fast.

People complain that since they own a really fast car and nobody was around they shouldn't have gotten the speeding ticket. Speeding tickets are issued to protect people's lives. This guy killed someone else.

Seems like he had every right to drive fast to me!

The other guy was a good friend of his. The other guy had to have known full well how Dunn likes to drive fast, therefor he knew full well what the risks are involved with that.

Life is unpredictable and anything can happen. You can't live in fear, you can just live in the now. Who knows what really happened? If anything I think it's most likely that a deer or something caused the reaction to swerve out of control. Unfortunate, but it is what it is. No reason to demean or disrespect the guy. It's the way she goes, the fucking way she goes.

Whole lot of people jealous of his career in here. Jealousy makes you people even uglier than you are.

What are you expecting? Adulation? The guy was famous for being an idiot and will now be a little more famous for dying an idiot. If the fact that he's a Darwin award upsets you, wipe your nose. If it makes you feel any better, he died an entertainer. I laughed when I read the story. I laughed again at the fools trying to memorialize him. If you don't want to be remembered for being an idiot, don't make it your profession.

Dunn in the past 13 years had been cited 23 times, including 10 speeding and careless driving stops and three for driving with a suspended license. There was also a drunken driving arrest from 2005.

So, I think Bam is a douche, but why do they assume that he brought the news team out himself? I'm sure reporters were scrambling to get a statement from him (since there hasn't been one), it's not unreasonable to think that they followed him there. That's kind of a stupid assumption, but I guess it is The Superficial.

Cops: Ryan Dunn Was VERY DRUNK During Crash

6/22/2011 10:55 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn was extremely intoxicated at the time of his fatal crash Monday morning ... with a blood alcohol level of more than TWICE the legal limit ... this according to cops.

West Goshen Police Chief Michael Carroll told the Daily Local News ... Dunn's B.A.C. was .196 ... nearly two-and-a-half times the legal limit in Pennsylvania, which is .08.

Carroll added, "No other substances were found in his blood other than the alcohol."

As TMZ reported, Dunn and his passenger were killed when Dunn lost control of his Porsche, crashed in a wooded area and his car exploded in flames.

wow, i blew 0.09 when i lost my license...essentially a quarter of a beer or like fifteen minutes away from being legally sober. i even made a call to some lawyer from the cop station at 2a.m. to stall for as long as i could before taking the test.

i was also three miles from the border headed to new brunswick and would have been under rcmp jurisdiction and i've heard first hand from them that they don't charge under 0.12. oh well, lesson learned.

i thought it was the opposite. my lawyer (gangsta who got me off with court costs, a couple classes, and no record) said that cops purposely wait to give breathalyzers because the BAC gets higher or something/

last year i got pulled over for speeding when i was probably well over the legal limit. he smelled it out right away and i thought i was seriously fucked (DUIs are like 10 grand when all's said and done) and at that moment i could already imagine having to move back home with my folks and my life crumbling completely. but i forced myself to think straight and i gave the cop some bullshit story about how i was a pharmacy student (i was pulled over by a university) and how this would ruin my life ect. so he gave me the field sobriety tests and by some miracle of god i passed them all and he let me go. i really felt like somebody up there was looking out for me on that one

so embarrassing. i hate posting things like that, but its a cool story bro

i imagine it takes probably 15-30 minutes for your last drink to enter your bloodstream or whatever, then after that you metabolize about one drink per hour. maybe the cops wait to give you the field test, assuming you just finished your last beer but i had to do two tests with a real machine that counts at the station quite a bit later.

luckily, a friend of mine married a lawyer and she pretty much fights these cases for a living, so i was able to get the discovery or whatever from the crown and she read it for free, told me i'd lose, and saved me a couple of grand.

^In the spirit of that story.

Almost 2 years ago one of my buddies died. My girlfriend at the time and myself were driving from school to my mom's house so that we would have a shorter distance to drive to go to the funeral the next day. We had been smoking. We started up another bowl and started taking hits, I guess I hadn't been staying between the lines so much as I was handling the bowl and what not. Windows up.

A few hits in and the cop lights go on behind us. I immediately put the windows down and take a gradual slow down and turn to the side of the road trying to get the smell out but knowing I was fucked. I was high and scared as shit that I just fucked my life up. The cop comes up and asks for my registration and I can't find it. I keep fumbling through my glove department unable to find it nervous as hell. The cop sees my eyes red as hell and asks what we are doing saying that the car was swerving on the road. I tell him how my buddy had died a few days prior and that we were driving home for his funeral the next day. The cop doesn't even go back to his car with my license and registration, he just says that if I can't drive the rest of the way then I should let my gf drive. He lets us go. Just like that.

I think that was my friend up in the sky helping me out with that one because I have no idea how the fuck I just got let go so quickly like that.

Mooney
06-22-2011, 07:27 PM
so he gave me the field sobriety tests

my field sobriety test was blowing into a portable breathalyzer that just had a green light that was supposed to turn red if i failed. i blew forever, then stopped. it was still green. i waited like ten seconds and it was still green and i figured i was fine. then he stared at it for like a minute and it turned red. f word.

i don't know why but cops here usually don't have breathalyzers in their vehicle. maybe it's for budgetary reasons or whatever but they usually breath test you when you go to the station. so it's kind of good for you, because they really don't want to go through the hassle of sending you all the way to the station and doing more paperwork unless you're really stinking drunk

i have a friend who got pulled over drunk and he kept his poker face on and said 'well, just give me a breathalyzer. i'll prove to you here and now i'm fine.' and the cop was like 'well now... lets not go that far just yet....' after a few more questions he was let off the hook :/

You know in the past people have given you shit and I've thought to myself "Oh, Banana really isn't that bad, he just says some lame stuff from time to time cause he doesn't think that hard before he posts." I can relate, I used to say stupid shit on here all the time (many of you will argue that I still do, and you're probably right). "Give him some time" I would think "he'll come good eventually" But in hindsight, no, fuck that.

Your opening statements in this thread were reasonable. You knew the guy, he was nice to you, you were bummed out that he was dead. Fair enough, I get you. Then you drop this little fucking gem of insight:

Everyone drives drunk.... And his issue wasn't that he was driving drunk, it was that he was driving way too fast.

People were being pretty callous about it, as Netphoria is wont to be in these situations, and its understandable - if not pretty obviously futile - for you to want to rebutt those people and try to make them feel bad for laughing at a strangers death. But with that little statement you said something that not only was an absurd generalisation, but inherently disrespectful to the families of everybody who has ever been killed by a drunk driver.

You were feeling emotional, you wanted to defend your recently deceased buddy, and you were maybe a little upset that some of them had a point - what Dunn did was a really, really, really shitty thing to do, and it cost an innocent second party his life.

Now it's not exactly easy to back up off a statement made on Netphoria, but it was clear to everybody here from the second you posted that shit that you didn't really think it. But rather than just shutting the fuck up and not posting in this thread anymore, you had to stick around and snipe at everyone who called you on your bullshit. Then you start making up this crap about how "the dangers of drunk driving are horribly exaggerated" and "he couldnt have killed anyone else on the road because it was 3AM on a monday".

and then we get to this:

Life is meant to be lived to the fullest, not passively ridden to a decaying death while you watch opportunities for fun fly by as you follow the standards setup by an artificial and unnatural society/civilization.

as though you're some kind of infinitely wise MTV Buddha or something. And then this nugget:

The other guy was a good friend of his. The other guy had to have known full well how Dunn likes to drive fast, therefor he knew full well what the risks are involved with that..

pretty much absolving Dunn of any wrongdoing by... by what fucking logic exactly? In a thread where people are telling you about how their loved ones died in car accidents and you're putting this dumb cunt up on a pedestal because he was a cool guy and somehow that makes what happened to everyone else who dies on the road every year cause of dumb fucks like Ryan Fucking Dunn just a factor of life?!

Then you tell us this story about smoking bongs in your car while driving and how the cop let you off like it's some cool yarn. And then when people keep calling you a moron you start on with the homophobic slurs.

I have no doubt in my mind now that you are, in real life, an ignorant, repulsive piece of shit far and above anybody who has ever posted here. I used to be the same way about drunk drivers who got themselves killed through their habitually irresponsible behavior. and then good friend of like 15 years hit a light pole at 100+ mph in his 5 liter mustang. the crash scene looked very much like this one. whilst cleaning out his room he'd lived in since childhood, his brother found a cache of empty jack daniels bottles under his bed. like 40.

he'd had problems with alcohol in the past, which is why he had moved back home.

could have killed someone else? yes.
we we all really angry at him for his irresponsible behavior? yes.
had he exhibited risky behavior prior to this? without a doubt.

All I gotta say is that I drove home tonight out of my fucking mind tonight from Philly, and I am here. Not one is dead. All is well. You know why? Because if you keep it cool then shit stays cool. Keep your level and everything stays level. Make the soup and that shit will taste like chicken. Make the chicken and that shit will taste like soup. It's all another circle that evolves into another circle. I am me, and you are all me, but you are not me, because you are all in my mind which I control.

Deal with it.

Banana, you should try living a little closer to the edge. Like over it, maybe.

I used to be the same way about drunk drivers who got themselves killed through their habitually irresponsible behavior. and then good friend of like 15 years hit a light pole at 100+ mph in his 5 liter mustang. the crash scene looked very much like this one. whilst cleaning out his room he'd lived in since childhood, his brother found a cache of empty jack daniels bottles under his bed. like 40.

he'd had problems with alcohol in the past, which is why he had moved back home.

could have killed someone else? yes.
we we all really angry at him for his irresponsible behavior? yes.
had he exhibited risky behavior prior to this? without a doubt.
does any of these facts diminish the tragedy of this loss? not one fucking bit.

you all need to lay off banana, no matter how protracted his relations with Ryan were. Because I don't know if you noticed, seign (the only non-showboating asshole in this thread) actually had a close meaningful relationship with the guy and doesn't for any reason need people on the internet judging his friend a really stupid mistake he made. everyone in dunn's life will be asking themselves what they could have done to keep this from happening, a sadly moot question.

so yeah. grow up peoples. learn a little compassion. not everybody engages in risky because because they are evil assholes.

Your internet white knightery schtick lately is such a drag.

Xenophobes, homophobes, and judgmental cruel hearts! ALL OF YOU!

According to police, the Proving Ground cohost left Barnaby's with a blood-alcohol level of 0.196, more than twice the state's legal limit. Not long after, he drove his Porsche close to 140 miles per hour before losing control of the vehicle, smashing through a guardrail and hitting a line of trees.

I wonder how accurate that BAL is after taken from a corpse that was on fire.

Did they have to wait for him to cool down before drawing the charred blood?

also, instead of "what an on edge thing to say" try saying "what an edgy thing to say."

adjectives. they serve a purpose. try them out once in a while.
