I fear this shaman character is a huge negative influence on his life.. telling him things are good and better now when they were just fine before. I also fear that this can only lead to some terrible things down the line. It really fucking blows, because had this character not entered their lives a couple years ago, there is the possibility that these two would still be making music together.

Once again man... from the get go James and D'arcy were the only two stable members of the band imho... and fuck any of you going on abotu D'arcy and cocaine... she was sober and dealing with her own bull shit long before Jimmy and Billy, and I guarantee that's why she walked out of the band first and foremost... because she knew she needed to go take care of herself before any "rock and roll" obligation.

I mean for christ's sake, she went out to the middle of nowhere to get away from it all... meanwhile Billy and Jimmy just throws themselves head long into bull shit project after another... and the only person holding true to any kind of sense of self that hasn't really wavered from the beginning in terms of music and work ethic, imho, is James.

I still enjoy Tool and alternative metal in general (but not really Chevelle, Staind, etc.) Tool is heavy, rhythmic, tribal, atmospheric, slightly trippy, and dark in tone--pretty much a formula for music that I will necessarily like. Their first album Undertow is just straightforward, raw, and heavy, which is generally always the great thing about first albums in general. I know that some of the stuff is up its own arse (especially the later albums) but I can well enough ignore those excesses. Also, I don't think I've heard a band that can actually accurately capture that exact "Tool" sound with appropriate depth and heaviness.

-He took advantage of the band's success and released a solo record
-He stuck with the plan to revive the Pumpkins when Jimmy returned
-He didn't throw any public fits or slander the band to the media
-He played the final show, left, and that was that

I miss James.

Here here. Over the past decade, I feel time has really revealed why James couldn't stay 'loyal' to this band. I would have flown the coop a lot earlier than he did had I been in his shoes.

Also, time has so far not revealed any evidence that James is the asshole Billy Corgan has made him out to be.

I'm telling you man... James is the mother fucking man.

I listen to Let it Come Down whenever I need something mellow and heart warming and it ALWAYS makes me feel a heck of a lot better for having done so.

Sure, it's not the record for all occasions or strays very far from the over all mood / message / song format from song to song.... but fuck if it doesn't do its job well.

... kinda like James did with the Pumpkins for so long.

It's really a great metaphor really... and just think how insanely positive it all is, especially in contrast to what Billy was going through at the time and the kind of wild, manic music he was releasing.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.... James and D'arcy were the anchor to Billy's chaotic creative ambitions... even if that's ALL they were (which I doubt)... it'd be enough to warrant a shit ton more respect than Billy's given them through out the years in terms of what they contributed to the original line up.

... but back to the topic at hand, yeah... I'm personally glad James isn't having to deal with anymore absolutely undeserved bullshit (he always seems to have a great time with APC, and if you youtube it, you'll see he's still pulling the same silly humor on stage these days).... and good on D'arcy for getting out of the scene... I'm telling you, just got a strong feeling she was smart and quit before things got bad.

What has always struck me about James' solo work vs. Billy's is how textural it all is... layered with guitars, and strings, and organ just... so.... while Billy's work is always so dry and basic.

If James' new solo work ends up as textured as it was in the past, I'll be convinced forever that James was indeed a huge influence on the original pumpkins layering of sound... because I've seen the same kind of thing happen with other bands and solo projects, where you can tell the distinct things they each bring once they all do their own stuff (radiohead is a great example of this.... tool too).

... but yeah, hopefully James will be inspired to finish up his recent solo work and maybe do more. I think he could do it full time if he wanted.

LICD is a nice mellow record. I play it every few months if i feel down for any reason. i hope james finally puts out a second solo effort also.

He gave the band an insanely generic name that was literally imposable to look up.

He has no web site.

He's so inept he seems to not even understand how basic and easy using a service like Facebook would be to tell people he has a new album.

He's so inept that he can't even seem to be able to just tell someone to create even a basic web site for him for free.

He's so inept he seems to not even be able to inform a site like Hipsters United of anything he is doing.

And worst of all. He is so inept that after a month of people not being able to find the album or even knowing it was released. What is the only problem on this whole list he deals with. The idiot changes the bands name a month AFTER they put out their first album.

Sorry I don't see any evidence that things are positive in his life. I see an out of control junky that has moved on from drugs to a new form of addiction.
