Surely these six songs can't be the sum total of what Jimmy's been up to these last couple years. you're a fucking moron. if you were a true fan you'd know that he's been up to a hell of a lot more than this. And you get on peoples cases to wait to hear the full teargarden, final recorded tracks before they can really make a call on it.. did you really listen to the whole record in the 10 minutes after it was posted on this site? dick bag. i'm going to pass judgement after i hear the record.. not just listen to the clips. i'm willing to give jimmy that much of a chance. paranoid 11-01-2010, 11:17 PM after first song here's my initial impression: pros: drumming is great, as always.. although a bit too much on jackknifed at times. production is good, like the guitar overdubs, etc. parts actually reminded me of zwan as far as guitars go and song arrangements. cons: the singer blows. do not like his voice, the lyrics are just as cheesy as anything billy would write these days. it destroys everything and any hope this band has. verdict: compared to teargarden i can listen through this but it's just as cheesy. dig the drumming and that's it. here's hoping he puts the complex back together and goes back into that direction.. jimmy at his best. i'm hoping THIS is a one time thing. Rickpat12 11-01-2010, 11:18 PM any links yet? Rickpat12 11-01-2010, 11:18 PM BC on the radio right now, actually just promoted this album. killtrocity 11-01-2010, 11:19 PM great civilizatons is kinda cool paranoid 11-01-2010, 11:20 PM there are moments on this record that are nice, then other moments that suck complete balls. should have been an instrumental record. what is it with jimmy playing behind shitty singers? looks like he got himself a better guitar player this time around, though. sad reasons is pretty cool.. neat instrumentation, much more interesting/artistic than what the pumpkins have been putting out. i think i like tightrope the best.. minus the aweful vocals the instrumentation reminds me a bit of tortoise.. getting a bit of a loose fur vibe too. really unqiue drumming on jimmy's part, seems like he's got a bit more room for creativity in this band. aomb1979 11-01-2010, 11:45 PM BC on the radio right now, actually just promoted this album. Really? wow. Details? Rickpat12 11-01-2010, 11:49 PM Some guy asked about the final straw between him and Jimmy. He said he doesn't want to get too public about it. But didn't diss him at all. Said he's a great musician and he has all the respect for him. They were just going in different directions, and he mentioned This and that they have an album coming out. rudi 11-02-2010, 12:44 AM Yeah this singer sucks my shit but the music is not bad and the drumming is pretty out of control rudi 11-02-2010, 12:50 AM That being said, could we all just agree to love the shit out of THIS and buy everything they ever release just to miff Corgan off? Tell me it wouldn't be worth it Rider 11-02-2010, 12:51 AM I plan on buying it just to piss off BC. We should start requesting This on radio stations. ilikeplanets 11-02-2010, 12:53 AM paranoid do you even read corganist's posts or do you just call him a "fucking moron" every single time out of habit? paranoid 11-02-2010, 12:58 AM I already bought the record for 6 bucks off itunes. more than I've spent on SP since late 2008. ilikeplants you're a fucking moron. also, i read somewhere that in the radio interview billy just did, he said jimmy wanted to go the greatest hits route with the SP.. is this true? if so, he seems to be bending the truth, i heard from a source close to jimmy's camp that he wanted to do a tour after the disaster of the 20th anniversary that would primarily be made of the radio hits and favorites (example, geek usa) just to win back some of the positivity/trust of the fans. this of course is all a bit silly considering that this is exactly what billy is doing with SP right now, minus geek usa because he's got a shitty drummer. ilikeplanets 11-02-2010, 01:02 AM I really doubt that would happen...BC does some stupid shit but after all the effort he put into creating this "band" that he says represents the new SP blah blah would he really destroy it for a reunion tour with only jimmy that will probably never make it to the end? That just seems hasty, even for Billy. Skradgee 11-02-2010, 01:18 AM yeah...at first listen, Life Begins Again seems way cooler slunken 11-02-2010, 01:20 AM stop living in the past Rider 11-02-2010, 01:44 AM I really doubt that would happen...BC does some stupid shit but after all the effort he put into creating this "band" that he says represents the new SP blah blah would he really destroy it for a reunion tour with only jimmy that will probably never make it to the end? BlissedandGone2 11-02-2010, 01:59 AM ug billy and jimmy need eachother. everything sucks. ilikeplanets 11-02-2010, 02:17 AM Ok Rider...I meant that I don't think Jimmy and Billy will decide now is the time to play shows together featuring Pumpkins hits and favorites. Billy put all this work into building a new "Smashing Pumpkins" and even though BC can do cruel shit to his band mates, I don't think he would risk the dissolution of this line up to appease fans that he hates. And I also doubt that Jimmy would be motivated enough or trust Billy enough to see a whole tour through. Perhaps that was more clear...I'm a bit less hazy now. :) Monet LSD 11-02-2010, 02:32 AM :erm: amoergosum 11-02-2010, 05:13 AM cons: the singer blows. do not like his voice That was my very first impression. My Blue Heaven 11-02-2010, 05:15 AM he just sounds like your standard indie rockish small-time singer to me. so does the music. but it's still so much better than TbK -- i wonder how the songs will sound dynamic-wise once we hear the full versions. russian iha 11-02-2010, 06:04 AM So no one can upload AAC files? Should kill off any Billy is the pumpkins bollocks coz this clearly proves that Billy & Jimmy are both needed for "that" sound. The guitars are alright, some interesting bits - definitely agree on earlier comments that there are some Zwan esque moments in there although this is probably heightened by the drumming. The vocals are shit. Just plain shit. Unfortunately a shit singer kills any chance of me really getting into a band. Shame really. Still good luck to him coz my god he is an incredible drummer. Spaldz 11-02-2010, 12:33 PM also, i read somewhere that in the radio interview billy just did, he said jimmy wanted to go the greatest hits route with the SP.. is this true? if so, he seems to be bending the truth, i heard from a source close to jimmy's camp that he wanted to do a tour after the disaster of the 20th anniversary that would primarily be made of the radio hits and favorites (example, geek usa) just to win back some of the positivity/trust of the fans. AND that would of been awesome. kingflupps 11-02-2010, 12:43 PM Oh and anyone that thinks any of the songs on Great Civilisations are better than A Stitch In Time, Song For a Son & Spangled is a retard. I do enjoy the instrumentals though. lambert 11-03-2010, 01:16 AM Hmm, just clicked on the iTunes link and it seems to have disappeared from their store for the time being. Still on Amazon though. $6 bucks, think I can spare that on Jimmy. slunken 11-03-2010, 01:23 AM I love how "Jimmy being the drummer in a band" equals "Jimmy's band" to some of you. Face it, this is no different than Iha's stint in Tinted Windows, except TW had some real talent (other than the sp member) involved. brendo_91 11-03-2010, 01:27 AM ok, stop that. so, has anyone actually downloaded this and have a review of it yet? i want to know if my inclination to actually spend money on This is valid. I'll bite. I bought the album on iTunes and posted this (more or less) last night on Ozphoria: Track 1 "Capsized Jackknife Crisis" sounds like Tonight Tonight's drums with a new song on top. Almost like a mishmash of that and "Sound Of Love" from LICD. Track 2 "No One Can Tell" is better than the preview suggests. Track 3 "Tightrope Situation" is Beatlesy - think "Fool on the Hill" Track 4 "Great Civilizations" (title track) sounds Arcade Firey. Cool solo. I kind of dislike the chorus. Track 5 "All I Hear Is Snow" confuses me... it sounds like it's in 6/8 at the start and then moves into 4/4... but it must just be triplet feel at the start. Nice enough track I guess. Mellotrons in the chorus. Track 6 "Sad Reasons" has Mellotron strings all over, and oddly not very much of a drum part. Overall vibe... JC + Arcade Fire + LICD + Beatles?! Oh, and "Love Is Real" from the JCC album is similar in vibe too I guess... Tracks 2, 3 and 6 are clearly the strongest songs IMHO - not that "strongest" means much when everything is very blah. Best drumming on either 1 or 2. Oh, and the vocalist sucks and so do the lyrics. Sounds like you hit play on 2 cd players at once, one with horrible instrumental music, and one with JC's drumming, and they happen to sync up with timing. haither 11-03-2010, 07:46 AM shutup, billy Fuck you. The album is much more of a departure from SP that I expected after reading comments. Hell of a lot of a prog rock. Not that much of Zwan, maybe the first track only. The vocals seem out of place, but they actually work with music. The singer is really inspired. ilikeplanets 11-03-2010, 12:20 PM Ok now rip it and post it!
