I think this video really fits the vibe of some of the songs on Mellon Collie that have a 19th century / Old World feel. Like Tonight, Tonight, the title track, Lily, and Cupid. When I listen to those songs its like I'm transported back to pre 20th century Europe.

MCIS is one of the most musically contradictory albums ever. There are those classically-themed songs you mentioned that evoke sounds and moods of antiquity. Then there are of course the metal/prog/art rock songs that explode out of speakers. Pastoral folk and electronica are also represented. I love listening to something like "To Forgive," and then "Fuck You" right after. It pulls your soul in a thousand different directions.

Billy needs to get back into that victorian house ASAP.

Yeah, Sadlands seemed conducive to great songwriting.

such an awesome song and video. i think that might be my favorite video of theirs. that whole time period was just amazing. i don't know where he gets all this "fans want 1993 again" stuff, if you're going to repeat yourself, this period is the one to do. and to be clear, no one's even asking him to do that. we're just asking him to not suck, to put out something good.

You people are making me so fucking depressed! But it's true.

The Pumpkins were an amazing band, Thirty-Three is an amazing song, and if I had a penis, I'm sure D'Arcy would give me a boner, too.

Starla, you said it perfectly. It all was a beautiful dream.

Thirty-Three is one of my least favorite SP songs.

It's not one of my least favorite songs, it's but definitely in the running for my least favorite single. To this day I have no idea why they put it out coming off of the mega successes of Tonight and 1979. The only reason I can ever come up with is that it was post-Melvoin incident and they wanted to release a song that didn't heavily feature Jimmy. I still think there was another big hit single on that album, and Thirty-three definitely wasn't it.

Also WC, someday let's do 3:40.

I forgot how well they nailed the last three scenes in the video. Reminds me that I went to high school with a girl that looked just like the one in the MCIS cover art.

Such an amazing song. It's hard to believe that Billy Corgan wrote this.

He's a completely different person. A shell.

Also wHATcOLOR nailed it. No one is asking for a specific year but stop sucking, Billy.

We don't need 1993 but we do need the brilliance we still saw in moments like Mary Star of the Sea at Pinkpop or Gossamer with Jimmy.

I think Billy secretly hates himself and gets off on slowly sinking his own ship.

i think mellon collie is the album that's most true to the core of corgans personality while siamese dream (and adore, the rest is narcissistic crap) slightly more dealing with people around him. if you look at the lyrics of the former you see that he's empty, angry,, scared, in need of a deeper security, made of shamrocks etc.

the most moving of willys latest material in my mind is a stitch in time, that goes back to those core issues that will always plague him but also serve as his most productive place of inspiration. it lies in the nature of these problems that he will always try to escape from the core, mainly through abusing his status as a famous person (surrounding himself with whores, dating whores, having sex with whores and yes men). still the emptiness will always remain and it drags him back in. that my friends is the best and most accurate psychological profile anyone will give on these boards.

I wonder when he's next due to implode (or explode?)?

I think the 20th anniversary shows were a perfect storm in the sense of how public and attrocious they were. It strikes me as more probable that as corgan grows more stressed and aggressive that we will notice this in the form of more frequent attacks on people at shows and more megalomaniac behaviour in the press until he is forced to retreat back to face his inner life again due to hoplessness and exhaustion.

i wouldn't want to speculate on a timeframe though, i just recognize that he's in the narcissistic part of the cycle right now.
