pineapple*soul 09-02-2010, 02:12 PM message to Mike Byrne: Less ride bell.
Eulogy 09-02-2010, 02:42 PM what's so special about it
redbull 09-02-2010, 02:43 PM message to mike byrne: stop it.
sounds like the 2007 version...
redbreegull 09-02-2010, 02:47 PM pretty good version. I just do not understand why this guy knows how to make a song sound good live, but not in the studio anymore.
dustrock 09-02-2010, 02:47 PM doesn't this sound like exactly the same version as before?
samuel redman 09-02-2010, 03:17 PM my feelings towards the band these days goes up and down, i absolutely loved this song when it first came out. but Mike Byrne may or may not become pretty good in a few years. im excited for the full band recordings coming out (one day). but to be frank, ill always love Jimmy, and the band could use him, forever. even with good replacments
New Art Rioter 09-02-2010, 03:54 PM That's The Way I always thought was a fairly underrated track, prob the best on Zeitgeist
paranoid 09-02-2010, 04:43 PM this fucking sucks go fuck yourself.
seriously if I want to see something like this i'll go watch a student recital at berklee for free.
mellon_c0llie 09-02-2010, 04:48 PM Good find. I love jeff's guitar parts on this one.
eyesofruby32 09-02-2010, 05:54 PM Sounded better than the album version.
lambert 09-02-2010, 10:23 PM I never understood the hate for this track. The acoustic bonus version from American Gothic is especially nice.
killtrocity 09-02-2010, 10:33 PM a 7 year-old could play jeff's guitar part
Starla 09-03-2010, 04:03 AM not sure this is one of the better songs...
cork_soaker 09-03-2010, 06:01 AM a 7 year-old could play jeff's guitar part
yes, things could really be improved with some technical complexity
Slurpee 09-03-2010, 08:53 AM I do dig how much darker it got. Benefits from Billy not producing it.

Well, it's in a different key. Up a major third, or more accurately, down a minor sixth. So it lands in Eb minor instead of B minor. So the vocal sits higher, but the music sits lower.
There's actually a similar part to Jeff's on the fucking album, it's just buried. Listen harder.
Skradgee 09-03-2010, 10:49 AM Music Theory FTW
whorebucket 09-03-2010, 04:56 PM am i the only one who gets bothered by jeff's style of playing? he always seems to have an O face.

Thanks for the info; I try not to speculate on those things because I know absolutely nothing about them.
But, I have no desire to listen to Zeitgeist at all, let alone "harder," and no amount of badgering or shaming will change that.
brendo_91 09-04-2010, 10:05 PM i knew it was definitely in a lower key when i first heard it, but because the vocal melody sits so close to where it used to be i didn't think they'd dropped the key quite so far as they had.
it makes sense though that people think this sounds more classic SP now - low grumbly guitars with high whiny vocals over the top and then something a little trippy in the second guitar. that's the formula, right?
vbshlofbvgos 09-05-2010, 01:03 AM who really wants to hear this song? i mean i haven't been to an sp show since 2000 but does anyone really get excited when they play this song? who the fuck cares

Teach me some theory, man. Seriously.

Yeah, but theory lessons from another netphorian would be way cooler than just googling something.
