The pumpkins are coming to Tucson, which is about 2 hours away from where I live. Tix are 40 bucks. My question is, is this tour good enough to spend that much money and make the drive as well?

No idea. Take earplugs just in case.

I've never seen them live before, been listening to them for almost 12 years. Just curious if there is anything special about this time around.

I saw them in 2000 and 2007. 2000 was great, 2007 was terrible (partly the material, partly the the venue - it was too loud with too much bass and lower mid for the medium size venue we were in.)

I have always loved this band to death; I just bought tickets to the Sacramento (Crest Theatre) and Petaluma show (Phoenix Theatre)! I really believe that Corgan has found an ideal balance between the old and new, all the while playing very well with passion. The last time I saw the Pumpkins was in 2008 in Mountain View at the Shoreline Amphitheater. 99 Floors, Owata, Rose March were alright, he even busted out the harmonica. The defining moment was when the Pumpkins played Disarm with horns instead of strings. The only problem was that Josh Groban had to fucking ruin it.

Oh well. Let's go SP3!

If you go not expecting "The Smashing Pumpkins," I'm sure the shows will be alright. Not sure yet. I have tickets to the Seattle show, but that's mostly because I've never missed an opportunity to see the Pumpkins in Seattle or southern California since Adore came out.

If the show's good enough, I may go to the Portland one, too. I'm gonna guess it will just be average, though. It's hard to get excited when so much of why I love "Pumpkins" is missing.

Are you the type of person that would pay to go to a demolition derby and watch old beat up cars crash into each other?

If so, go. A SP concert nowadays is no different.

i went to the orlando show, it was pretty decent. i would recommend going. just look at some of the setlists they have played. they really dont vary it too much and see if you would enjoy that.

I just went to SPFC to look at some recent setlists.

You know, okay, I get it... Billy's point about "It's impossible to make everyone happy, because everyone has their own idea of the perfect setlist."

I get it.

But,

With ALL of the hundreds of Pumpkins songs he's written over the 20+ years, why is it that only the radio singles wind up on every single setlist?

If he wants to be treated like an artist who's music is deeper than people are giving him credit for, he should really stop limiting his choice of old material to just Today, Disarm, Bullet, Tonight Tonight, Ava Adore, Cherub Rock and Zero. He played those songs to death back BEFORE they broke up in 2000. And now he continues to whore them out. The only difference between 2000 and now is that now, the radio hits aren't flanked with classic gems anymore. Instead, they're flanked by Widow Wake My Mind and Astral Planes.

I don't need a setlist catered to all my favorites. But I do think it'd be nice for him to play old songs OTHER than the radio hits. Because now when he says something like, "Here's an oldie but a goodie," it's not going to be Drown, or Ruby, or Geek, or anything from Gish. It's going to be Bullet with Butterfly Wings.

Fuck that.

I went to the Charleston show. It was great. Lots of fun and they rocked hard. Crowd was really into it. I would go with no hesitation $40 is nothing.

I wasn't to blown away when I saw them in 07' in Normal, IL. They sounded alot better first night back in Chicago for 20th tour...to me anyways. From what i've heard so far, SP3 isn't doing to bad.

as far as i can tell all the haters are people who haven't seen this line-up live. I saw them in Ybor... you know, billy blacked out and still put on an amazing show. I'm an older veteran now as i got on the wagon in 1993... let me just say this, the old shows had a chaotic urgency to them where the band was playing because in their eyes it was "play or die"... when I was 17-18-19 i felt like it was my band and with all the good canadian drugs it was a hell of a fucking time losing your shit to Quiet and Geek USA (sorry to rub it in, younger fans)

now it seems like theyre sincerely exploring new sonic territory with their live shows... in terms of strictly performance, theyve never sounded this good... theyre still pretty authentic since billy avoided finding high-price studio musicians... i think the shows are great. D'arcy and James kind of held billy and jimmy back but mike and nicole and jeff just sort of give billy the pathos in which the band builds its live show...

my point: the shows have been awesome. Go watch them on this tour if you can... too bad there wont be any more soundchecks.

My favourite has always been Massey Hall in '98 for 'Adore'... and ive seen them on EVERY tour since siamese dream

I think that's a bit unfair. I quite enjoy demolition derbys.

I thought the Normal show was pretty good (would have been better if they'd closed with Starla, which they had on the setlist, instead of Lucky 13)...the Davenport show was kind of a shitfest though.
