Speed Kills with A Song for a Son, along with Love Lies In Ruin.
Probably the best TBK song to date.

paranoid 08-12-2010, 03:28 PM bland and boring with shit drumming. typical teargarden.
paranoid 08-12-2010, 03:38 PM also, it's not fair to compare this to speed kills or love lies in ruin. this sounds like blleding the orchid and song for a son got together and had a retard baby.
Marqués 08-12-2010, 03:40 PM It falls kinda flat on me. Not the most horrid thing in the world but a bit uninspired.

Maybe it's the tempo that reminds me of Speed Kills, but it was definitely the first song that came to mind.
Rickpat12 08-12-2010, 04:36 PM I too, after first listen yesterday, thought of Speed Kills.
Corganist 08-12-2010, 04:42 PM The soloing at the end is very reminiscent of the Arising tour version of Speed Kills, so I can see where you guys are coming from on that. And the verses do have a little Love Lies in Ruin vibe to them. Not really feeling any Song for a Son in there though.
I think a better recording would make this sound a lot more dynamic and impressive. It seems to be built on the tried and true quiet/loud SP formula, but the recording doesn't really get that across. It sounds like the skeleton of what could be an amazing song when they beef it up a bit, but right now it's just decent to good. I kinda want them to extend the outro a bit and try and turn it into something a little more epic.

paranoid, im just curious, has there been anything you've liked from the Pumpkins in the past 5 years or so?
vbshlofbvgos 08-12-2010, 05:35 PM after one listen i like it.
paranoid 08-12-2010, 05:49 PM paranoid, im just curious, has there been anything you've liked from the Pumpkins in the past 5 years or so?
yup.
I feel like you've asked me this and I've answered it already.
Ramdust 08-12-2010, 05:52 PM not terrible
exactlythesame 08-12-2010, 06:28 PM remember when crogan used to write songs with interesting twists, memorable hooks, and inspired structure that didn't stick to the same-old "verse chorus solo verse chorus solo chorus" bullshit that any band can write
samuel redman 08-12-2010, 09:37 PM yup.

ah sorry, my message board memory is foggy
rub_the_y 08-12-2010, 09:49 PM I get the feeling that this album is called teargarden by kaleidyscope because it means that it's going to be terrible music from all angles. The OP's youtube vid seems to confirm this.
slunken 08-13-2010, 03:52 AM yea kaleidoscopes are kind of sucky if u think about it
Luke de Spa 08-13-2010, 04:11 AM bit safe innit
time to take some risks, bill
Spaldz 08-13-2010, 04:13 AM I like it. Don't compare it to Love Lies In Ruin though which is incredible.
New Art Rioter 08-13-2010, 09:02 AM bit safe innit
time to take some risks, bill
Risks these days involve going on national TV with a Mormon choir
Step back from the risks, back I say!
mickyshambles 08-13-2010, 09:11 AM awesome song! you just can't stop ol' bill!
soniclovenoize 08-13-2010, 10:15 AM Sure to be ruined in the studio.
slunken 08-13-2010, 03:08 PM i'd bet money that this song is at least 5 years old.

Having listened to this a few more times, I think this is one of the few times someone can pull out the overused "sounds like Zwan" critique and actually be right for once. This song sounds like it would fit right in with Zwan's early (pre-2003) live material (which to me is a good thing).
Reggaeluv2000 08-13-2010, 09:53 PM I am for one am not feeling this song with it's live performance. I can only hope it gets better over time becuz right now it's a no go!
TuralyonW3 08-14-2010, 12:38 AM of course he debuts it to the slant eyes who will shut up and pay attention
TuralyonW3 08-14-2010, 12:41 AM oh and shitty song
mickyshambles 08-14-2010, 09:50 AM Sure to be ruined in the studio.
congrats on liking it.

of course? :erm:
Araneae 08-15-2010, 09:31 AM This is the best from teargarden so far but it's still so generic and lacking something. Hopefully the studio version will sound better.
redbull 08-15-2010, 10:55 AM the studio version will be generic and lack energy and drive, just like everything billy has put out post-2000

I said almost the exact same thing on the O Board.. good call.
It has a lot to do with the low singing style on the recording.. it sounds a lot like those early zwan shows.

The only thing that's good about Billy's grave-digging of his old successes is that there's a small chance he'll record early Zwan material. Straight from Chrysanthemum to, I don't know, The Shining Path. Those set-lists were probably the last epic greatnesses of his.
iPumpkin 08-15-2010, 03:39 PM sounds like zwan
