View Full Version : Is the Majic Coming Back?

I really feel like the band has turned the corner with this tour. Even their new stuff is sounding great. I think the biggest difference is the music has feeling again instead of sounding mechanical. I have a feeling that TBK will be a mini comeback for the Pumpkins and Billy before it is all said and done and it will be a record that will be respected.

Of course, for all I know it will be abandoned before they come back from overseas. But right now this is the most optimistic I've been about the band since 99.

i have this feeling based on basically nothing that something about this band is going to change and it might be for the better or it might be for the worse but whatever it is it will happen and i'm optimistic

The most optimistic I have been about the Pumpkins since the reunion was when Billy said that Zeitgeist was basically a purposeful rehash to warm them up and establish themselves again. And then it just kept getting worse. I am not very hopeful that the band has turned any corners or anything like that, just because the music sounds a little bit better right now. We all thought Corgan had bottomed out and was improving when we first heard Song for a Son and As Rome Burns IIRC.

I wish I could say I felt the same way. Between the new songs and the show at terminal 5 I don't see much to be positive about. The songs are ok at best and the show was a huge dissapointment in my opinion. Mike's playing was sloppy and the band as a unit doesn't have the same power or dynamics that it once had.

So you consider Freak to be a good song? It's pretty bad if you ask me.

I like freak a lot. I also like Song for a Son a lot. The other three that have been released I could live without and am not a big fan of.

The only ones I like are A Stitch in Time and Astral Planes

Song for a Son is alright. Stitch is really good.

As Rome Burns and the new Owata are pretty good too.

Still, expectations have been raised for the project after hearing the soundcheck songs.

I think it's a question of energy... with the 07-08 band it always seemed like sonic precision was the priority over all else, but the new lineup feels like a real band playing what they want to play. On top of this, the shift from BC being at war with his fans, to him being okay with pleasing people with all the hits that he himself wrote and poured his heart into.

I'm really excited that the next EP is gonna be recorded with the whole group... all of Corgan's rhetoric about not wanting to serve the past and all seems to be panning out, and I am excited.

But, I should also disclaimer that I've enjoyed all of the reunion stuff except for much of the acoustic material. Even "FOL". Well, just the chorus.

I'm not really surprised that Billy has lost the magic. Look at his peers with the exception of Trent Reznor and Radiohead. Most of the big alternative artists from the early 90s are pretty mediocre now.

Yeah. Trent Reznor is so great. The guy could fart into a trombone and people would buy it like it's actually good.

Ya, I'm feeling the band too. Again, I was never one of the fans with a HUGE problem with what's been going on... I've enjoyed it all. But I do get the feeling that there's a lot more life in the songs right now than there has been in the recent past. I also get the feeling that Billy was being honest when he said the songs they were playing as Spirits in the Sky were the so-so songs... I think we're in for a treat!
