How do you figure? The archive project never got any further than "let's have one guy listen to some stuff and write a couple totally information-free e-mails to fans." Teargarden, even such as it is, can't be anywhere near the same kind of failure. It at least got off the ground. It's one of the few crazy ideas in Billy's entire career that he has talked about and then actually tangibly followed through with. Whereas the archive just goes on the pile with the era tours, the Metro DVD, the expanded re-releases of albums, etc. that he talked about and never even really tried to do anything with.

And really, the only way Teargarden gets dropped or fades away the way this archive idea did is if Billy has a major label whisper sweet nothings in his ear about them putting in the kind of money and promotion effort that he thinks he deserves for a major label album these days. Since I don't think that's gonna happen (no matter how bad Billy wants it), he's gonna stick with the Teargarden model.

I figure via experience. he's already stated in interviews he's not exactly sure what he's doing and how this is all going to figure out. 5 songs in and only the 5,000 or so people that give a fuck about him on a daily basis are listening to the new material.. and evidence shows that irks him. I really don't think he's going to make it to #44, or EP #11.

There was the whole Hideout thing too where he prevented other people from taping and sat on his recordings of the shows. To this day I think that was when Zwan first lost its luster. They had been so open with the fans to that point.

It depends on the terms. Even I'm not confident enough to think that Billy is gonna stick with the current release model for 3 or 4 more years. But I do tend to think he'll "finish" the project one way or the other. I'd be willing to bet that he won't let it go the way of the Chicago songs where he just puts everything in a box and forgets about it mid project...but I can't put my money on him releasing 39 more songs for download.
