How did you manage to break a G string so quickly? I break e and a strings a lot...but my g string has held out for YEARS...it's so damn thick...

i dunno
i guess im so used to tuning my bass...where you have to turn the pegs several times...i just noticed that with the violin its only a bitty bit :erm
thats probably why
and it broke right where the peg is....the part that's covered in string...that's what broke

I didn't know that Violin strings broke that often. The strings that come on a cheaper violin like that are going to be awful though. You should probably restring the whole thing.

<font color="DAB9E8">If you do restring the whole violin, I suggest dominant strings... they sound a lot better and are pretty good about not breaking real easily.

The first time I broke a string was right after my mom bought me my first violin... and I'd taken it to church to show it off to everyone (I was only 10), so I was playing it (or attempting to play it) and the A string broke. I started crying and couldn't stop - and thought my mom would kill me because I broke the violin... heh. I didn't realize you had to change the strings.</font>

Can anyone recommend some good solo pieces? i'm not in an ensemble anymore and I'm really bored lately with playing.
