View Full Version : M.I.A. - Born Free
Shallowed 05-05-2010, 11:16 PM I suggest you hear the song itself before you watch the video, the video itself one of those cinematic "epics" that is really distracting from the music.

Thoughts?
slunken 05-05-2010, 11:23 PM Um holy fuck it's Suicide's "Ghost Rider" with new lyrics. What a joke, as usual. First Bappi Lahiri, then Alan Vega. Yawn.
slunken 05-05-2010, 11:32 PM I mean, like, I already got excited about this song once before about 6 years ago. I loved it.
redbull 05-05-2010, 11:34 PM decent song but she can only say the same shit so many times before it gets boring
slunken 05-05-2010, 11:36 PM case in point.
the vid is crazy though. can't wait until the media backlash caused by copycat crimes.
slunken 05-05-2010, 11:48 PM If I would have made this thread I would have been responding like crazy by now. I guess I just don't have the patience to wait it out.
What is the appropriate time to wait for the OP? Is it gauged by responses to the thread or is it by time? I figure about 5 individual posts to be the correct time to respond to one's own thread, or 12 hours. Whichever comes first.
slunken 05-05-2010, 11:49 PM The 2nd Suicide album (produced by Ric Ocasek) is seriously under-rated IMO, though.
TuralyonW3 05-06-2010, 02:57 AM you guys are full of it, the song is great. I CAN'T LIKE IT CUZ IT'S A SAMPLE WAAAAAAAA
TuralyonW3 05-06-2010, 02:58 AM also redbull i could listen to this fine hunny going B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B- ALL DAY

Response.
slunken 05-06-2010, 08:10 AM you guys are full of it, the song is great. I CAN'T LIKE IT CUZ IT'S A SAMPLE WAAAAAAAA
Um, it's not a sample; it's the exact same song with slightly different lyrics.
slunken 05-06-2010, 08:17 AM del
Shallowed 05-06-2010, 10:01 AM Well, when the original song is that repetitive, there's not much you can do with the sample itself. The song is just those three bass notes, with a beating bass drum and a single fucking chord. I think she did plenty to add to it. Most obviously adding a shit tonne of drums.
I'm not trying to make out like I give a shit about M.I.A. or anything, for the record. I've never even liked her music at all. I heard this song on the radio this morning on the radio and really liked it.

I've never heard the original, but some of the drums were added? Neat.
It's alright. but Paper Planes > Born Free
Eulogy 05-06-2010, 10:39 AM ...ok, I just listened to Ghost Rider. She definitely did good things with it. Quit whining, slunken.
slunken 05-06-2010, 10:49 AM :(
I feel cheated.
Eulogy 05-06-2010, 01:43 PM this has embedded itself in my head now
 ffuuuuucccckkk
Trotskilicious 05-07-2010, 05:47 PM this is ok, nothing quite like anything on Arular but i'm getting used to the fact that she may be a nas-type with the first album classic and then bits and pieces after that.
when is the new reckid out

Na-na na, na-na na, na-na na, na-na na.
slunken 05-08-2010, 10:59 AM I put on Suicide's s/t last night and I'm fairly certain it will remain the better, more timeless album.
redbull 05-08-2010, 05:13 PM slunken you're a goddamn retard
slunken 05-08-2010, 07:22 PM I know - it's upsetting me that I'm getting so upset about this.
slunken 05-08-2010, 07:26 PM I wish I could have filmed my reaction when I first heard this MIA song, but it was something along the lines of "NOOOOOOO THEY CANT DO THIS TO MEEEEEEEE!!!"
I've never felt more obsolete :(

TuralyonW3 05-09-2010, 01:56 AM ^WHITE KIDS OUT OF CONTROL
slunken 05-28-2010, 06:51 PM I changed my mind I like this song now.
TuralyonW3 05-29-2010, 01:27 AM hipster
cocksure 05-29-2010, 04:48 AM slunken is/was right, this is useless
i like mia but this is clearly a lot worse than ghost rider
slunken 05-30-2010, 11:30 AM It was fun to listen to a bunch while riding my bike friday. Tried to listen to it again last night and was back to not feeling it. It gets old quick and I stand by my previous comment that Ghostrider will and does stand the test of time.
ryan patrick 06-01-2010, 05:26 AM trying to set aside the Ghost Rider sample completely, the song doesn't do too much, it's ok as like a GarageBand cutesy track that someone put together in a couple hours
