and it sucks.

I've had to work 2 weeks straight without weekends, 10-15 hour days. And almost all the cool parts of the internet are blocked.

I spent a fortnight in China once; the food was sub-par.

I'm a computer vision engineer. we're building new vision-based touch screens, and the factory is here. Because Chinese labor is cheap.

How can you touch with vision? Sorry if it something obvious, I don't know that much about computers and the latest trends.

i googled it: Computer vision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_vision)
it means the computer can see. not sure how that relates to touch screens. maybe it's a screen that can feel and see?

The screens on these aren't actually touch sensitive, it's just glass. But there are cameras in the corners that see where you're touching. It's a neat project to be starting my career with, but if this is what it's like to be an engineer all the time, I want back in to academia.

By the way, how's that Crogan's Martin doing? You play the guitar or you thought of it as an investment?

Oh I got his Taylor. The Martin was the To Sheila guitar. I got it to play, and as a collector's item. I don't really think of it as an investment, but if things ever get really bad I hope I can recoup my money. I'm super-amateur on guitar, but even I can tell it plays great. I guess it's because the action is nice and low, or something, but it's so much easier to play barre chords. It's also way fun to watch, say, Bridge School '99 and say, 'Dude--Billy is playing my guitar!'
