FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS KICK OFF RECORD STORE DAY, APRIL 17 2010
EXCLUSIVE PRE-SALE FOR THE SMASHING PUMPKINS LIMITED-EDITION EP

"TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE VOL. 1: SONGS FOR A SAILOR"

Coast to coast, fans visiting select local independent record stores on RECORD STORE DAY, Saturday, April 17, will have an opportunity to preorder the new, limited edition EP by The Smashing Pumpkins, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol 1: Songs For A Sailor. The pre-order is exclusive to independent record stores. By preordering the EP, fans will be guaranteed to own the EP and will immediately receive a collector's edition Smashing Pumpkins black light poster, while supplies last.

Says Smashing Pumpkins band leader Billy Corgan: "I used to work at an indie record shop so I'll always have a soft spot for the places where I still go to find the most vital music, whether new or still hidden."

Additionally, as part of the Record Store Day celebration, Rocket Science Ventures and Amoeba Records in Los Angeles will present the Pumpkins' fans with an opportunity to see an exclusive performance from the band. The first 250 fans who pre-order the Teargarden... EP on Saturday, April 17, will receive the limited edition black light poster as well as a wristband giving them entry into The Smashing Pumpkins performance from Amoeba and Urban Outfitters Space 15 Twenty later that day.

Director of Marketing for the Music Monitor Network and Record Store Day organizer Carrie Collition adds, "Many of Smashing Pumpkins' fans, not to mention record store employees like myself, first embraced the band and their debut album, Gish, inside the walls of an independent record store. We are thrilled that Billy Corgan is publicly recognizing the part those stores played, and continue to play, in the Pumpkins story."

The Smashing Pumpkins' TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE VOL. 1: SONGS FOR A SAILOR is set for official release on May 25th thru Martha's Music / Rocket Science Ventures. This very limited edition collectors EP will be packaged in a beautiful collector's silk-screened wooden box. Each box will contain a 4-song CD, a vinyl 7" and a hand-carved obelisk.

Record Store Day, is managed by the Music Monitor Network in partnership with the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS), and the Alliance of Independent Music Stores (AIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale. It takes place on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

Rocket Science Ventures expands on the label services concept by adding release funding coupled with a Sony/ RED distribution option - while providing artists and management the ability to maintain ownership and control of content. Unbelievable show. Mike Byrne is amazing. He brings so much raw energy that you can tell Billy *has* to bring his A game to match the intensity of the rest of the band. I honestly have to say that I enjoyed this show more than both 20th Anniversary shows at the Gibson. Some incredible potential with the lineup of Billy, Mike, Mark, Jeff and the occasional Carina Round (who was amazing on her own too). The new songs sounded great too. We also got the Teargarden boxset today as a surprise after the show; a month or so early. That's true fan service right there........SP3>SP2......I'm calling it now.

Instrumental theme on the vinyl, I haven't even opened it yet. 4 songs on the CD, so I'm guessing just one side is used on the vinyl and the other could be etched (though it doesn't say). They had us bring our receipts to the show; though they weren't needed to get in.....just the wristbands were needed. Had us scratching our heads as to why we had to bring 'em until we were told about the surprise. I feel sorry for the few who left their receipts in their cars (saw a few people forget them). So maybe out of the 250 that were available, I'm guessing 230 or so were actually given out. The poster is really nice, really surprised with the quality.

04-18-2010, 04:32 AM
Well, I'm officially moderately excited about the future of the band again. Based on the videos, this was everything anyone could have hoped for from the first SP3 gig. Billy played with passion, the choice cuts from old stuff were spot on and, finally, Mike Byrne started to show a lot of promise.

Now if we can finally get to hear some of those new A-level songs Billy promised.. Come on Billy, release something stellar and prove everyone wrong.

So a couple of youtube clips containing 2 songs that are mostly corgan, and suddenly everyone is ready to say that he's back and ready to conquer the world again. You sad fucks are so desperate for ANY fucking positive news that you'll convince yourself that a song with 3 words and some decent sounding youtube clips means Bill is back to the "90's" bill of old like some dumbass said earlier. All thats left is for davin to start talking about masterbating to how "tight" they sound, monte to annoy bill at another concert, and corganist to get his head out of corgans ass long enough to proclaim it the best fucking concert of all time.

Where the fuck did you get that I "liked" the clips. I called them decent. Theres really not much to really discuss. Stumbeline and Soot&stars were mostly corgan. The only thing to really judge was the drumming and he sounded decent. I'm not going to full on hate on something there wasn't really much to judge on. His "spirits in the sky" clips sucked balls. These, were not as bad. Still, a total of 4 clips does not mean Sp is "back".

How about you go fuck yourself and just because I didn't say they were "the worst fucking thing in the world" doesn't mean I liked them. Idiot.

Actually, Billy is wearing a dress and pearls in this video. If he did that now, he'd never hear the end of it. So, fashion-wise, there's a huge improvement that's happened since 18 years ago.

i guess ultimately, though, people are only going to give a fuck about the music from the past. no one here is talking about the performances of songs for a son (the only new song posted on you tube), astral, widow, stitch, that's the way, GLOW (yet to have postings on you tube). we only care about how loudly billy screamed during bullet and how a 20 year old can play jimmy chamberlin's drum parts some what correctly.

billy probably realized this is the best way to get people to talk about him and back tracked on his promise of not playing old tunes.

btw there that new song 'baby'.. which i actually like.

TuralyonW3

concerning all the discussion about byrne:

there's no denying that he can perform some solid rock 'n roll drumming. he's better than the douches in bands like staind & limp bizkit and the like.

he's just no Jimmy Chamberlin. but really, who is?

kind of reminds me when matt cameron replaced jack irons in pearl jam...played the old songs with a "looser" style.

paranoid
04-18-2010, 05:45 PM
so now we're using that old sill debate of 'well at least it's not as bad as the crap out there now like limp bizkit and staind!' eesh.

btw i'd be thrilled to see matt cameron playing with SP.

What's the point paranoid? The old SP is never coming back. It sucks I know, but get over it and move forward. You should be pleased that at a minimum SP3 or whatever you want to call it can still rock out with the back catalog. Plus there will still be the occasional good song that comes out from teargarden. I can understand and participate in bashing retarded shit like widow make my mind or wrestling commercials or firing Jimmy. Repeating the same old gripes when there is a sign of improvement and movement in the right direction is unnecessary though. Oh fuck I'm sorry I even bothered to type this much but I might as well just post it at this point

The band sounds good. Mike is okay but he will never be like Jimmy, Jimmy is just a beast. It's good to see Billy enjoying playing SP songs again, it seems like he needed the 1 1/2 year away from the tunes to start appreciating them again. However, it looks like there will not be a tour after all or at least not until later in the year.

By the way, it sounds like he changed the lyrics in siyl. What is he saying at the end of the clip? "who wouldn't be the one you ?" (it's supposed to be "love" but it sounds like "starve").

It's just about being a two faced phony. And this thread really puts those people into the spot light. I bet the people who chose "No" in the previous pole that they aren't going to the upcoming Pumpkins concerts probably are. You either like something or you don't.

This live version is sweet, but I also really like the studio version. I never knew what to think of it at first until one night driving home on a long highway from Toronto, Soot and Stars began to play from the CD player, the sky was dark purple and it started to slowly snow large snow flakes. I'm honestly surprised with Mike Byrne's performance. Sure, it's not up to Jimmy quality but give him 10 or so years, he'll be just as good in his own right as he grows a bit older. IMO his speed with BWBW was a bit too fast, but he nearly nailed Tristessa which I was pleasantly surprised with. Mike's 20 years old just starting out his professional career. If he keeps it up, he'll have a bright future.

I'm really pissed off inside that the LA ppl got their EPs first. Shouldn't the folks who jumped on the first pre-order get rewarded? Like a chance to buy one of the special 7"s at the retail price?

I'm just trying to understand the reward system that BC seems to be dishing out. It's always either too little in the right places or too much in the wrong places.

It really just kills what little anticipation I had in receiving the EP set and, to me, totally destroys the essence of what a pre-order is and does.

just watch the fucking gig already, you morons. the video you're recording will be worthless anyway.
what makes it worse for me, is that i can see how bad the result will be, because i can follow everything on the screen of their phone. makes me want to throw their phone on the ground, yell in their ears and then murder them in the anonimity of the crowd.

Don't get me wrong - I'm still PLENTY pissed about the pre-order debacle. Pffft.

thomas_bland

I'm pissed because 1)the vinyl sucks 2)it's already out 3)better and more limited vinyls were sold 4)i don't have any of these

5) No Artwork/Lyric Book

1 song on the Vinyl is really cheap, not a patch on Le Deux or Sinfony. I was thinking Orpheus Descending would have been perfect for this and people would have actually wanted it. Even if the second side was just a demo of one of the CD tracks it would be rewarding those people actually investing in the album.

They had 1 pre-order. Fine. Check.

A month or so later, they had another pre-order where you also get a free poster, the actual box you're pre-ordering, as well as a chance to purchase more records.

Not really complaining, I just don't like the smell.

In the sense that it is a Smashing Pumpkins release that is going to cost me upwards of £300 in total. Yeah I would like a little more.

after watching a bunch of the videos from record store day (stumbleine, soot and stars, baby, etc) I can say that I really haven't heard the b0lly sound this good since the smashing pumpkins came back.

I know, i know, this IS NOT the same band I saw in Toronto in 93, 95, 98, and 2000. But truth be told, I think I get what the man's trying to do... That's why I'm still here, I suppose. Like all of you can relate, I've been left scratching my head wondering just what the fuck the man was thinking, but all the politics involved with the whole SP, SP2, SP3 thing sort of distract from the fact that the man wants to "continue" doing what THE smashing pumpkins were "supposed" to do. Sort of like an "unfinished business" thing (just not in a Steven Segal sort of way).

So with all (and i mean ALL) the bullshit in mind, as probably one of the more mature/seasoned pumpkins fans on this board (although im sort of new to it), I'll just say thank "god" that Billy is at the very least SOUNDING as good as he has in the last 10 years... and you know, the songs are a hell of a lot better these days than that Zeitgeist stuff

i was pretty annoyed too, when i heard those people got their pre-orders day of. truthfully it was probably more jealousy than annoyance cuz i missed out. it only compounded because i was already annoyed with the fact that I was in the LA-area for Coachella and couldn't attend the show/get the Amoeba vinyl! no regrets though, coachella was awesome. :smoke:

i did somehow manage to get tickets to the Jay Leno show though, before flying back home. that was pretty cool i guess, since i had never been to a show taping like that before. WMMM (my least favorites of the Teargarden tracks so far) actually sounded decent live in that small studio space. LOUD. so considering i fucking hate Leno, at least i was able to leave somewhat happy.

i was also able to secure a 7" from Vintage, thanks to an awesome super cool dude who went and picked one up on my behalf. :D
