If he wants to be a smashing pumpkin then darnit he will be.

It's just such a sobering realization how down the tubes this band went.

Alas I was a few years too young.

Billy needs to get on the archives project and remind people he used to know how to rock.

Foo Fighters seemed to have kept it together for a good while.

Same. I was 11 when I first saw BWBW on, yes, MTV. I had never seen anything like it before, it was so emotional and heavy and fucking perfect. I bought MCIS immediately. This was early/mid 1996. Then I saw them on tour in Miami on Nov 17, 1996 and it was amazing and I bought all the other albums, working backwards, and started posting on AMSP. And well... the rest is history? Miss what it was, of course, but even if Billy shits all over his legacy like he's trying to do, I'll still always remember 88-00 fondly. And Zwan. And even his solo record. But mostly the real SP.

^ Same!

I'm so unobservant that I never paid much attention to anything until MCIS. I was dating this guy who was mooching on my sofa watching videos, and 1979 came on and I said, "Who's that? He's so tortured!" and he's like, "Where the hell have you been?" (but nicer than that because he was my bf and probably thought I'd eventually have sex with him) and I immediately went out and bought Gish, SD, MCIS and TAFH.

I was so innocent and impressionable then.

maybe bolly's carreer will have some kind of upswing when he's like 50 or something and realizes he's been a total fuckhead, who knows. it's not unprecedented for the middle part of someone's career being completely forgettable only to redeem themselves when they get older. i think, whatever.

I think part of the problem is that he's always been about moving on to a different sound.

When you bring that process to it's logical end you find yourself far away from what really worked in the first place.

Last time I checked, I was a lady.

But it was decided in another thread that I played the part of the foetus in the Try, Try, Try vid, so I said that if I was going to be anyone, I wanted to be the nipple rubbing guy in Stand Inside Your Love - the reason being that it was decided in yet another thread that I'm fat.

Basically I just hang around here morphing into whatever anyone needs....and so glad to be of service, I'm sure.

I was going through my vinyl yesterday, stumbled onto my SP section, and to be honest it was sort of depressing to realize I will never be that excited about a band again. They were one of the first bands I discovered on my own, before their peak and not after or as a hand-me-down from my parents' record collection, and I was at the perfect age to foster an unhealthy obsession with them. I remember feeling like I would die if I missed their tour stop near me and up until a few years ago they still had the power to reduce me to reduce me to the fangirl I was sixteen (!) years ago. They played four shows in Philly three years ago and I went to every fucking one. Despite hearing a lot of stuff over and over, hearing Cherry or an acoustic version of whatever still got me excited. Maybe it is just my age or whatever, but I miss that feeling.

It's strange to realize that I've been on this board for twelve damned years, literally since its inception. Most all of us were little, bickering, passionate teens; today we're all in our twenties or early thirties, and yet it feels as though so little has changed as we all kind of grew up together. I suppose that is the permanence of the internet for you.

Then there were other topic classics such as "Billy's house and the moonkids," "Fat Jimmy?," and "Melting question mark."
