I don't remember where the last one of these went, but seems like blissed n' gone's thread is getting hijacked by other uncouth individuals who need somewhere centralized to post.

Here's some of my solo stuff, kind of written to be acoustic, but full-bandy the way I recorded things:

And sorry, gotta turn it up a bit, mainly the first song. Any comments appreciated.

I've posted the Boutros Bubba myspace so often that I'll do something different now. This is the solo project of the singer of my band: Spoelstra on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads (http://www.myspace.com/spoelstralia)

He makes a song-based kind of electro and something that vaguely resembles country music.

Mablak, your songs are great. They sound like a mix of Cocteau Twins, Flaming Lips & My Bloody Valentine members gelling well. The first track is the best, with the most personality and melody.

This is a parody album I recorded in 2001, which dates it, but it's funny. Parodies of Britney Spears, Blink 182, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Backstreet Boys, Dr. Dre, Nsync and Snoop Dogg.
Not to be taken seriously. ANy comments are appreciated, however, as my high school pipe dream doesn't like living in a vacuum. Download Jam Meister Josh - t.v. generation x.y.u..zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way (http://www.sendspace.com/file/mgzpjg)

Some of this stuff actually makes me uneasy, like listening to a Picasso painting or something, in a good way I mean. I'm probably going to have to listen again when I feel like being on edge.

I like where did that come from, and the vocals sound really nice, not sure how those are done. On the parts where it goes from D to I think C? I would've liked to hear a different chord, but of course that's one of the choices that distinguishes your own style.

holy shit, this is great.

Thanks a lot, appreciated

Thanks, I'll have to try Cocteau Twins and MBV again, I never gave them a full album listen really. I listened to your Britney song, but Weird Al-type parody just isn't my thing in general.

Yeah, some of you hated this years ago, which is fine. But some of you who dug it before and maybe are into the whole Elephant 6 thing might dig this...

My band, The Curiously Strong Peppermints, after 6 years of recording finially finished our album three months ago. Some of the songs might be familiar, but they are remixed and feature new vocal tracks and misc production, and of course all sequenced as one cohesive album (which was the intent all along!) Our bio claims we sound like "Elliott Smith backed by The Flaming Lips playing The Beatles backwards" but whatever you want.

Free copy here: Endless Fields of Poppy | CLLCT (http://cllct.com/release/endlessfieldsofpoppy) or http://www.sendspace.com/file/g0r6xz

This is a segment of something i've been working on--it's currently about a minute and a half long, so yes, it's still in a somewhat infantile stage. But please, someone, give it a quick listen and tell me what you think. There are accordions and banjos and screechy sounds and all sorts of other fun things. And since I generally live inside a lonely cocoon, I would really like to know what people other than myself think of the music I make.

My band is on this compilation, a Flaming Lips tribute thingy. I was one of the two guys who organized it, but whatever. sonic,

does the Facebook music model they just got have any redeeming qualities? Or is Facebook going the way of Myspace because of Goldman Sachs butting in on their biz and gonna try and fix what isn't broken and veer off the original momentum that it made it popular?

Took a few years but once Murdoch bought myspace, I had a bad feeling it wouldn't go over very well. Now with GS trying to prop up Facebook as a new IPO bubble, I have that same feeling this won't end well. In the meantime, Facebook for bands, how's it working? If it does work well, myspace is done done, like, not even tumbleweeds would bother.

soniclovenoize
01-28-2011, 09:29 AM
Well, I don't know about the politics behind it, but I think it's great, I see a lot of bands using it for promotion but putting their music up at bandcamp. The thing about myspace is that it takes too long to load, and all the custom pages became douchebaggy. And everyone just left of course, so only the bands were left--but only because it was a good way to put your booking demo or whatever up. But now you can do that on bandcamp and even fb...

So yeah, I think the fb thing is pretty good. So if my band is playing a gig, I just create an event on fb and invite a bunch of people. Then some of those people will end up "liking" it, and their friends who don't know me will see that persons activity it and go "huh?" You know what I mean? Networking... We have 84 people who "like" us, but I only actually know 29 for them.

I also use our fb page to archive pictures, since I don't really like photobucket or flickr. And you CAN actually put music up on your fb with a special app called BandPage, although it just links the media from your soundcloud accont. Our fb thing is here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Curiously-Strong-Peppermints/161506861793?v=info if you want to see the BandpAge app.

The Omega Concern
01-28-2011, 04:09 PM
O.K. Sounds reasonable and useful and good to hear your using it to your benefit. Overall it sounds like FB has improved the music model a bit and since their the biggest internet flag out there for networking, I suppose it's here to stay for awhile.

yah...Goldman Sachs...they floated this meme out there and gave a preliminary valuation of FB at 50 Billion. Rather suspicious and it harkens back to the internet bubble in Silly Con Valley during the 90's. Anyway, I don't think they got many takers as the whole thing appears to be a scheme to get cheap money from investors (with GS holding all the cards to get out early while investors wouldn't be able to cash out for at least 18 months from the IPO).

So...for FB...if they get too caught up with Goldman Sachs and lets say, an uprising in the states occurs that's similar to what's going on in Egypt right now, GS's name would be mud and by extension FB might face a similar backlash. All speculation of course but in some ways that's what happened to Myspace when Rupert Murdoch bought it.

Hey party people.

For those who still care, I went back and remastered my band's album... It had always bugged me how quiet it was, and so I spent some time remastering it (well, the original was never really mastered in the first place, but whatever) and I think it's much louder, but with out losing the dynamic range it had. I also meticulously made sure there was no clipping for you Mary/Star fans. :p

So here it is, the remastered version... http://www.mediafire.com/?mp2bpgr3pf56ca3

I'm in the process with replacing all our old versions with this--already upped the new one to last.fm and I'm currently working on bandcamp--but of course the old unmastered version will still be available on what.cd and waffles if you prefered that version, so don't worry.

Enjoy! :D

not terrible... your lead pad could stand to have the attack/decay adjusted on it. If you want it that punchy you just need to round it out so it doesn't have that stock keyboard shallowness to it.

Cheers for the feedback man, that's still an early bounce and i've got a lot of work to do yet. I'm doing everything in Ableton right now. Have a listen to the second track I've put up, I like it a fair bit more.

nice. that sounds like stuff i record when i'm bored. something about the levels is fucked up though. too much bass or something. also, if you're gonna play a rhythm like this, it better be tight as fuck. i would recommend you add some bongos to that mofo

thanks for commenting. yeah i'm not good at mixing all that well and tbh my recording setup is so terrible that i ought to be ashamed to put anything out publicly but screw it, i'm excited to be composing music

it was just a little fun project to work on yesterday when i had an hour or so to spare. the rhythm track was thrown down on one take and that's where the rest was built from, so that explains the sloppiness, haha. i would love to add bongos if i had any, a good rhythm section would complete the song

original in a form of music I've been hearing lately...kind of a 60's tinge of psychedlic wash with the appropiate amount of air and whiter tones. brave attempt at 5:46, whutcha gonna do when the label rep tells you they want a radio edit to drift it off at 3:47? hah. trick question...

seriously your music would come across a lot better if you cared about how you looked on stage as well. it would convey your message a lot better and i really really hate to say that but people need to be spoon-fed.

you've clearly adopted a pre-determined set of rules to construct concepts within - why damage that by not following through with the most superficial ideas?

honest questions

Whoa whoa whoa slow down now there champ.

OK, first off, yeah, Mason has said this a year ago, and we attempted that for a show or two... but essentially the rest of the band save me stopped caring... But I do agree with you there. Thanks for the constructive criticism, I'll relay this to the others. As you can see, I continue to wear vintage shirts at the shows...

Can you clarify what you mean in your second sentence?

slunken
12-21-2011, 08:54 PM
2nd sentence? the audiences will eventually put forth more effort if they see you putting forth more effort. same with promotors, etc. it's not about selling a song it's about selling a lifestyle and that's what people are interested in purchasing.

Yeah so I'm playing guitar in this new band here called Awkward Bodies... It's actually Mason's band I'm playing guitar in, he sings and it's his songs pretty much. I guess we're kinda Sonic Youthy but I'm not really sure. Well anyways, if you are interested, here's our booking demo:
http://soundcloud.com/soniclovenoize/sets/awkward-bodies-booking-demo/

I recorded it live at a rehearsal last week, and Mason overdubbed vocals... I think he recorded them in his car actually. It's not really produced, we tried to keep a more "live sound" type of thing for the booking demo.

Give it a listen and give some feedback if you want.

Byron, I really like your music. I think you have an issue with vocal melodies though. Trying to be constructive here, they are definitely the weak link in your songs.

You didn't post "When the Fallout Ends" on here but on facebook, i really really like it dude

I liked this. I would give it more repeat listens if the lyrics were just a bit more developed. Music is great though and your voice is good too IMO.

Yeah it's me, my voice is transposed up 2 semitones, Audacity seemed to work fine for that, though I'm sure something like Melodyne would work better

Hey my band is doing this in-studio performance tomorrow night, Monday April 9th at 10pm Central Time... It's an hour-long thing and it's going to be broadcast live on the radio and filmed for this cable access thing... Both the radio station and the TV station will be streaming it on-line live tomorrow night...

You can listen on-line here: http://www.kvsc.org/mnl_schedule.php
You can watch on-line here: http://www.utvs.com/21/live.asp

you guys did great. good performance and quite an odd interview i thought you (you right? or was it someone in your band) was going to launch into a Corgan-esque attack on the music scene but alas it did not happen. ;)

i got distracted during the second half but whatever song you played at the end of set one i liked a lot

soniclovenoize
04-10-2012, 12:44 PM
Hey thanks! That's very awesome of you to listen! :)

Haha Yeah, that was me, the awkward interviewee... It wasn't an attack on the music industry at all, but I was more talking about the non-industry side, the indies, people like me and pretty much everyone in this very thread, who can make and distribute music without help from major labels or whathaveyou.

That last song on the first set was a new song called "Supernovacaine". I'm glad you like it! I will admit it sort of follows the Bullet With Butterfly Wings archetype though: mellow verse, loud chorus, mellow verse, loud chorus, even louder middle eight, super-quiet chorus, loud chorus, outro. :billy:

lyrics:

I'm taking small steps now
But I still fall down some days
So I get up on my knees
And crawl for a little while
And I don't mind

It's easier to be small
It's easier to grow old sitting down

And so I wait
I wait for a little while

I'm holding my head high
As I look up from the ground
And I smile for the world
But inside the empty days are calling me home
Cause I won't lie

It's easier to take a fall
It's easier to grown numb and old

And so I wait
So I wait
So I wait...
I wait for a little while
And I'm older as I look up from the ground

The song is not my cup of tea but I enjoy your playing and your voice. I think you look really pretty right at the end before you turn off the camera.

Truthfully I feel you need to take that t-shirt off and burn it so that it never gets worn again. You're not old, ugly or lesbian enough to be wearing it. That's just an aside.

I wasn't going to say anything but I'm hoping that honest feedback is better than nothing. I know I'd rather have honest feedback than nothing so I hope you're the same.

Oh, totally like honest constructive criticism. I just wear old t-shirts like that around the house and not out. But considering I am recording video of myself, I could definitely stand to care more about my appearance. :)

thanks for listening
