FOX orders more 'Hell's Kitchen,' Gordon Ramsay live - From Inside the Box - Zap2it (http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/08/fox-orders-more-hells-kitchen-gordon-ramsay-live.html)

I stopped watching. Cooking/reality shows now employ people who don't know the basics of cooking. It's pathetic.

I only watch Iron Chef, Top Chef, Top Chef Masters. They get a few on Top Chef who suck but they're judged highly critically and are soon gone.

Chopped is pretty much a joke, right?

is top chef like that one where they take home cooks and make them cook a fancy meal every week and eliminate them with the last chef standing getting their own restraunt?

i hate those kind of shows

cheffing isn't all about mystery boxes and celebrity judges. it's slaving over hot pans, in hot kitchens, being yelled and screamed at, with no breaks despite it being your 4th double shift in a row, burning and cutting yourself, being drunk every night of the week, pumping out hundreds of meals day in and day out for average wages for the rest of your life.

no, that's the "Next Food Network Star." Top Chef uses actual chefs

Mostly. I've seen a couple good episodes, and a few horrible ones. Most of the people they get on that show are real chefs, not home or line cooks, though.

The thing that gets most people is that they have to use every single one of the 'mystery' ingredients in their dish, and they have a very limited time to do it.

As far as I know, it's a new group of 4 every week- I don't think it's a big season-long competition unless they bring all the winners back at the end. So you don't really give too much of a shit about any of them being eliminated or winning..

Chopped uses cooks, not chefs. And the time frame and ridiculous ingredient rules are a crock

No, they've got real chefs on there too. The last episode I saw (granted, I've only seen about 7 episodes total) all 4 contestants were real chefs at decent restaurants. The one before that, 3 of them were chefs and 1 was half way through culinary school.

i like chopped. it's like 3 episodes of top chef in one, but not as good. and i like the color scheme and look of the show. i would like my kitchen to look like chopped. ted allen annoys me at times but he's tolerable. and, yes, the time frame is bullshit. i fuck bitches faster than that.

I like how Food network can't decide where it wants to stick Ted Allen. They gave him that Food/Pop science/myths shows where they try to figure out the best cure for a hangover or how many germs really ARE in that bowl of bar peanuts?

And then they stick him on Chopped, too, where he's got to play serious but has no actual imput with the judges (whereas on Iron Chef America he was a frequent judge)

Just because someone cooks at a restaurant does not make them a chef. Most of them are line cooks.

Ted was always my favorite of the 5 fags though. He's also the only one who still has a real career.

I'd throw it to Robert because he's semi-hot and famous but attempting to fuck him would be like excavating the great pyramids with a toothpick.

so does the next food network star. the chick who won was a home cook, but that's not part of the requirements.

anyway since when are you so uptight about food and cooking shows?

Oh jesus I know that just because someone cooks at a restaurant they're not automatically a chef. They introduce them as "Chef" blah blah blah or "head chef at" blah blah blah.

Why do you have to argue inane points like this all the time?

Hell's Kitchen may have totally unqualified retards but Top Chef is too snotty in how they present their show. Billy Joel's ex-wife, Salman Rushdie's ex-wife... they're both stuck up cunts as well. The chefs they have on that show usually have the personality of a wet paper bag. The food they make/challenges they have hardly make up for how fucking boring they are. Top Chef was merely trying to be Project Runway with people who cook, but the difference is that Project Runway will always have more interesting weirdos because of the nature of the profession.
