House of Bread 07-16-2009, 09:40 AM All I've heard is 23 and I enjoy it.
Is now a good time to check out In An Expression of The Inexpressible?
publius clodius 07-16-2009, 09:45 AM 23 sucks, melody has some good parts
House of Bread 07-16-2009, 09:46 AM del

well, 23 is a million times popper than in an expression... i would suggest "misery is butterfly" that is wonderful too
old blonde redhead is a little noisy
dr.benway 07-16-2009, 09:47 AM del
because it's my personal ranking
House of Bread 07-16-2009, 09:49 AM I realize that, I thought you made the comment, not publius.
House of Bread 07-16-2009, 09:51 AM Well, I'm getting all sorts of their stuff now.
publius clodius 07-16-2009, 09:57 AM i adore that song for the damaged for some reason
publius clodius 07-16-2009, 09:59 AM the song blonde red head is a more crucial/recommended listen though and gets my vote

dr.benway 07-16-2009, 11:30 AM I always prefer the songs the guy sings
it kind of reminds me of daniel johnston - his voice
i always listen to falling man
Shapan 07-16-2009, 11:55 AM i really really love this band. feels like they've gotten better with every album even though they've narrowed their sound as they've gone along.
dr.benway 07-16-2009, 12:02 PM i really really love this band. feels like they've gotten better with every album even though they've narrowed their sound as they've gone along.
that's true
they've become less experimental and more pop
and i don't mean that as a bad thing as i like all of their records
slunken 07-16-2009, 04:55 PM the song blonde red head is a more crucial/recommended listen though and gets my vote
this.
deep down sometimes i think i dislike radiohead solely for the fact that i really like the talking heads.
publius clodius 07-16-2009, 05:01 PM what about boris
slunken 07-16-2009, 05:08 PM i think i'm missing the point, maybe. what about them? if they take the name from something else it's too common to be directly referential.
edit: ah, wiki states it's from the melvins. yea, what i said above. boris is vague enough it didn't HAVE to come from them. not like "blonde redhead" which is appropriating someone else's poetry.
redbull 07-16-2009, 06:19 PM melody is fucking awesome
smashingjj 07-16-2009, 07:18 PM deerhoof for beginners
slunken 07-16-2009, 09:09 PM i realized that blonde redhead were the first "indie rock" band i saw live, opening for the chili peppers and foo fighters. it was the first time i noticed "sound" vs "songs". still didn't like it though. too mediocre. they either need to be more shitty or more polished. shit or get off the pot.
I'm Hardcore 07-16-2009, 09:50 PM this band is pretty average
smashingjj 07-17-2009, 04:05 AM i do like in an expression and melody of certain damaged melons
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 07:04 AM this.

that is wrong, so wrong.
so wrong.

it really depends what album you're talking about.
but foo fighters i take you're quite young MY CHILD wink wink xx
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 07:07 AM deerhoof for beginners
i actually do not like deerhoof more than a couple tracks.
in fact i only like gigadance.
but i prefer listening to yoko ono.
publius clodius 07-17-2009, 07:22 AM what do yoko ono and deerhoof have in common except for the japanese vocalist part
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 07:41 AM what do yoko ono and deerhoof have in common except for the japanese vocalist part
do you need anymore than that?
i don't know
dog on the sidewalk kind of cookyness
seriously, i haven't heard deerhoof enough to comment i know, but when i did and i think of a track like "no,no,no" i can see some similarities
i feel like listening to catman now
now back to blonde redhead i was listening to self titled yesterday and i could actually see that the two brothers actually ate bachelors in jazz music, and i could see the sonic youth in your face kind of thing, but there is something so melodic about blonde redhead that's why i like it so much i think?
as for them pushing themselves i think "in an expression..." is the best example
pale blue eyes 07-17-2009, 07:46 AM I have only heard 23 but I have a vague recollection of enjoying them when I saw them live.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 07:47 AM I have only heard 23 but I have a vague recollection of enjoying them when I saw them live.
I haven't seen them live, for some reason I think they wouldn't be able to sound as good as they do on their records.
pale blue eyes 07-17-2009, 07:52 AM Well, I did not have much to base it on so you may be right. It was a festival show and they were sort of a filler band between two bands I wanted to see.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 08:18 AM Well, I did not have much to base it on so you may be right. It was a festival show and they were sort of a filler band between two bands I wanted to see.
which were?
pale blue eyes 07-17-2009, 08:33 AM It was two years ago, I honestly have no clue. I just remember we were walking from one stage to another stage clear across the park and we saw Blonde Redhead playing and briefly stopped to see them on our way. Like I said, vague.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 08:34 AM you may or may not have been drinking
pale blue eyes 07-17-2009, 08:51 AM Heh. Nah, I don't drink. I just have a really shitty memory.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 09:05 AM and no excuse for it.
start drinking.
slunken 07-17-2009, 12:11 PM it really depends what album you're talking about.

do a google on what year those three bands toured and all will be revealed
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 12:19 PM ok since you dared me.
2000
what that's supposed to mean?
Mayfuck 07-17-2009, 01:11 PM deerhoof for beginners
ha
Mayfuck 07-17-2009, 01:13 PM the yoko ono/deerhoof comment was really stupid and probably racist.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 01:21 PM the yoko ono/deerhoof comment was really stupid and probably racist.
I really like Yoko Ono.
I was joking anyway.
Partially, because the japanese are really good with experimental stuff.
And also because I do get a bit of "no,no,no" or "walking on thin ice" when I listen to Milk man.
but then again you'll get a bit of ono in a lot of places, considering she was so influential.
isn't there a song called dog on the sidewalk? that sounds a lot like some of yoko's work.
Mayfuck 07-17-2009, 02:28 PM i'm a deerhoof fan i have several of their albums and they are nothing like yoko ono.
and lumping all non-white musicians into one category is racist.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 02:34 PM i'm a deerhoof fan i have several of their albums and they are nothing like yoko ono.

i'm not lumping anything
what are you on? "non-white" musicians? holy shit. like steve wonder is in the same category?
saying a band that happens to have a japanese member is slighly influenced by yoko ono's work is racist? because you know, bikini kill is also influenced by her.
please don't jump into things like that.
do you listen to a lot of yoko ono? because I do.
I don't listen to a lot of deerhoof, all that I'm saying is that when I did somethings reminded me of Yoko Ono's work.
The girl from blonde redhead is japanese, and she sounds to me like she was influenced by kim gordon more.
This is about influences, not race ok? Jesus.
why do people bring "race" into everything? I even hate the word.
can we just talk about blonde redhead please?
Mayfuck 07-17-2009, 03:45 PM publius clodius brought race into it and you obliged to his accusations.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 03:54 PM i don't even like the word race like i said.
it makes me a little nauseous.
japan has a lot of good experimental artists tho.
and to call me a racist is delusional and far from the truth.
and i really like yoko ono.
the end.
slunken 07-17-2009, 04:21 PM ok since you dared me.
2000
what that's supposed to mean?
well knowing that it was in 2000 will give you a pretty good idea of what album they were drawing from.
dr.benway 07-17-2009, 08:07 PM well knowing that it was in 2000 will give you a pretty good idea of what album they were drawing from.
it should have been melody of certain damaged lemons
dr.benway 07-18-2009, 06:54 PM in fact
i am so racist that when i am making sweet love to my half asian man i close my eyes and think of his white side
when i am eating sushi i close my eyes and pretend its stu
slunken 07-18-2009, 08:50 PM which half is asian?
davin 07-19-2009, 03:11 AM i'm down with blonde redhead. they impressed me live.
i like them better than deerhoof but not as much as deerhunter. :p
dr.benway 07-20-2009, 07:13 AM which half is asian?
just the head
dr.benway 07-20-2009, 07:14 AM i'm down with blonde redhead. they impressed me live.
