I never thought of it that way. I should've told my teachers that. :(

Nah, continually coming up with good and plausible excuses keeps the creative juices flowing!

there was a group of dirty hippies "protesting" today in the middle of campus, they looked so stupid with their signs, all like 20 of them. I just laughed at them when I walked by.

don't get me wrong, i'm not against protesting.. but when the students use it as an excuse to get out of class, when they COULD just protest after class, around class... anything.. it irks me.

i mena really, if you're going to protest, show that you are doing it because you truely believe it, not because YEY YOU GET TO SKIP CLASS!

^^ I never really thought about it that way but you're kind of right. When some student organization was advertising for the protest here a lot of their flyers/posters/etc said "skip class for a day! come and protest!". It was funny. Even though there were a lot of them. I had to pass through them going East when they were walking North....felt like I was in a stampede or something.

heh. this is what i did today. but it wasnt an excuse to miss class at all. the idea is that you wont go along with "business as usual"-we went and lobbied legislators as well as both of our senators. there was a great turnout from our school because our principal said we were allowed as long as we had parental permission. honestly, i think learning how to lobby your legislators is a hell of a lot more educational than your average class. i only missed 2 classes but i think it was worth it. certainly, there are people that go just to skip class but i wouldnt say a majority of people do that. not at all. we had an open mic, drums, and obviously signs.

i agree there are a lot of people that seem to do it for the wrong reasons. but for me, and a majority of the people that went its about disrupting(peacefully) what would normally be an average day and getting heard. we marched down fayetteville st. mall(kind of a business area, not a real street, lots of people) and then went to the senators offices and talked to some of their "people." at the legislative building, one of the state senators promised to make a speech to the state senate about how admirable what we were doing was. it wasnt like we were just standing around going "war sucks" blahblahblah. we *did* something.

i understand where everyone is coming from but dont think its all that cut and dry. its not just about skipping class to protest pointlessly. its about drawing as much attention as possible, and as i said before, disrupting "business as usual"

well, i see that too, but i've recieved many forwards and seen many fliers and NONE of them said anything like "disrupt "buiness as usual'" on them, all of them were simply either "cancell your classes!" or "skip class" so it was sending the wrong message to everyone.

at least that's how i'm seeing it.

and still remember, i'm sooo not against prostesting. i'm just for intelligent protesting..

and it sounds like your school did it right.
