i wrote a $8.10 check for a pack of cigarettes, a snickers bar and a drink yesterday. total process took about 25 minutes- the cashier had no idea what to do.

I don't see what the big deal with checks is.

people who refuse to use checks are just difficult in my eyes. if a business can't accept credit card as payment, I would much rather write a check than go to the bank for cash or money order. it's extremely convenient, and generally I only write checks for important bills.

i use them, but that's not to say they aren't a terribly old, antiquated form of payment.

My problem is that I don't particularly like my signature/cursive handwriting. As a designer, I find this particularly problematic. Been trying to change it, consciously, for a while now—I just haven't settled on a signature I actually like.

we learned how to write checks in elementary school. the only time i use them is for rent or sending money in the mail, personally i find them to be a bit outdated but they certainly have their uses.

I found a paper from when I was 12 or 13 the other day, and my signature looked about the same.

i think i've written maybe 5 checks in my lifetime. my parents JUST got debit cards like a month ago. it's been funny to watch the transition for them.

as for my signature, i don't have one. i write my name real fast and make the first letters of my first and last names kinda big. boom.

it never really matters except when using a credit card in london they'd glare at your signature on the receipt and compare to the one on the card and be all "oh you sign differently." it was weird.
