View Full Version : i may start working 6-7 days a week Thaniel Buckner 06-10-2009, 10:49 AM a possibility i welcome with open arms. like, 10-12 hour days too. anyone with advice to offer? Ol' Couch Ass 06-10-2009, 11:07 AM Make sure you take advantage of any opportunity to sleep. The shittiest thing about working like a maniac is the inevitable sleep debt that's accrued. I worked 84 hours last week... it fucking sucked. smashingjj 06-10-2009, 11:10 AM why the hell would anyone do that Ol' Couch Ass 06-10-2009, 11:11 AM first you get the ze money then you get ze power then you get ze women Ihaman 06-10-2009, 11:20 AM My advice is to hang yourself in your cubicle because those are the only walls you'll see for the rest of your poor existence. Elvis The Fat Years 06-10-2009, 11:22 AM he seems to enjoy his poor existence. shannon 06-10-2009, 11:25 AM I could never live like that... I'd go fucking insane Ol' Couch Ass 06-10-2009, 11:31 AM It's impossible to maintain for any extended period of time but is doable for a couple of months. I've been working like a Japanese beaver to save money up for school/vacation. Nine days until Chicago woot woot Nimrod's Son 06-10-2009, 01:51 PM I used to do 12 hour shifts, but I'd do them 4 days on, 3 off, 3 on, four off. You're gonna burn yourself out, dude. Mayfuck 06-10-2009, 02:30 PM sounds not worth it. hnibos 06-10-2009, 02:53 PM if you can do that for a little while with having the option to going back to whatever you do, go for it. maybe youll really like it Thaniel Buckner 06-10-2009, 07:19 PM i'd be working two jobs, call center 4 days a week and apprenticing with a welder 2-3 of them. so, i won't be hanging myself anytime soon as much as ihaman would love to see that. TuralyonW3 06-10-2009, 07:51 PM are you in big debt or something? Thaniel Buckner 06-10-2009, 07:55 PM no, but i could use the extra cash and the apprenticeship thing may actually pay off in the end so i no longer have to work in the call center. it's really not like i do anything useful during my weekends. murgle 06-10-2009, 07:56 PM It sucks. Especially if you like to do aaaanything in your spare time. After working 6-7 days a week for 10-12 hours a day, you're just going to want to eat, sleep, shower, work. Repeat. When I did that, I became even more of a hermit than usual. Didn't answer most phone calls, didn't leave the house except for work/grocery shopping/never came out into the living room, just stayed in bed whenever I was home. So it's rough, especially since apprenticing with the welder won't pay anything. Thaniel Buckner 06-10-2009, 07:59 PM it would be paid. ravenguy2000 06-10-2009, 08:10 PM I am lazy and avoid work at all costs, but I remember the one time I did work what would be considered a whole lot of hours, and it's weird how being at work somehow normalizes and it seems being at work is more natural than being at home or elsewhere. murgle 06-10-2009, 08:14 PM it would be paid. oh that's cool. A friend of mine is an apprentice at a glass-blowing studio, and he only JUST was able to start making pieces that he can sell, and he's been there for well over a year. In that case, go for it. It'll be nice that you can get a good jump on the apprenticeship, while getting paid and stuff. Just don't plan for a social life. ohnoitsbonnie 06-10-2009, 08:23 PM I have been in medical school for 3 years now but they still won't let me near anyone!! mercurial 06-10-2009, 08:32 PM starbucks is a cruel mistress Joe 06-10-2009, 11:03 PM well if you are unsupervised i recomend listeing to your mp3 player and talking lots of breaks, but it sounds like you will not be so, yeah just sleep whenever you can, geat a really comfy pair of shoes and prepare for you wallet to grow fat while your social live fades away. welcome to adulthood stripes 06-10-2009, 11:09 PM That'd be tough. Particularly in a call center. I did a stint in that line of work, and I hated it. But good luck to you if you carry out with it. Brute Squad 06-11-2009, 12:26 AM I worked in call centers for, all together, 3 1/2 years of my life. Never again. While it's ended up giving me a good phone voice, I'd have to be pretty desperate to go back. mercurial 06-11-2009, 12:31 AM a good phone voice is kind of a shitty trade off Cool As Ice Cream 06-11-2009, 01:34 AM billy corgan worked in a call center for a couple of hours. Mo 06-11-2009, 02:58 AM Watch your hair while welding. YSEM 06-11-2009, 10:58 AM i have a shitty phone voice. work hard, ******. topleybird 06-11-2009, 12:06 PM it would be paid. Sounds like a weldeserved paycheck! Don't let anybody slag off your career decision; sounds like it's on a real upward arc (weld!). Stay away from that passé gay bar for welders—I hear it's a real square butt joint. Make sure you don't burn the flesh off your hand. Mayfuck 06-11-2009, 12:26 PM where is charmbag ravenguy2000 06-11-2009, 12:30 PM in our hearts and prayers YSEM 06-11-2009, 03:01 PM did you guys bone? |
