I am doing that this weekend. This is the first time I've met a boyfriend's parents. (I already knew my last serious boyfriend's parents when we started dating, and well, that was high school.) Hence, I am nervous.

Anyhow. Share your advice or just talk about your weekend. Or ponies. Ponies are pretty awesome.

Boy do I have two very popular movies starring Hollywood mega-celebrity Ben Stiller to show you!

make sure you take a shit before you meet them. it is a bad first impression to get up in the middle of dinner and say "excuse me, i have to go take a shit."

Is Ben Stiller really a mega-celebrity?

I am going to bring over a peach and blackberry crisp and bribe them them with food.

i really like the first meet the parents. not a fan of the second.

one of the things to keep in mind, as a guy, and i'm not sure if the same holds true for fems, is to really not worry about approval. if you're not really trying to seek approval, your behavior will be more natural. all of the basic cliches apply: be yourself, relax, have fun, etc.

my best meet the parents story is more of a 'meet the extended family and their respected colleagues' story. i was with an exgf, and had met her parents several times before, but finally was to meet the rest of the family, including grandmother, three step brothers, each with their own families. and colleagues of the parents, who were their fellow professors. it was going pretty well, just kind of going with the flow, having a real big brunch at their house. pass the food around, etc. i grabbed a large plate full of sausages, and as i picked it up to pass, it snapped in half, and dozens of hot, oily sausages landed in my esgf's lap. it was pretty horrifying. looking back, it's kind of hilarious. anyhow, what had happened was that the father had broken the plate accidentally the previous week or so, and had glued it together carefully. the sausages heated up the glue, and voila, sausage party in exgf's lap.

i'd imagine you don't have very much to worry about. just don't drop a plate of clams into the guy's lap. so long as his family is more or less normal, it should go fine. good luck!

The  placement was perfect.

Ha, that's pretty awesome.

Because he's older than me, his parents are around my grandparents' age, adding to the intrigue.

I am supremely confident your dessert will win them over and you will have nothing to worry about. They won't even be talking about you after you leave, they'll be gushing over the crisp.

That's the plan.

Impress them with stories of your mad oral skills.

Or, just be yourself and a bit reserved/complimentary and all will go perfectly. With you, there's nothing to not like.

My mom is going to help me with my garden. I want to do some landscaping near the porch. Tear out old bushes and put a flower bed in. These bushes attract deadly bees. :[ Then I really want to go up to the lake and do nothing but sit there.

you can always pretend it wasn't you. just pretend nothing happened.

I think it went pretty well. They were funny and welcoming and everything. We watched the Sox game and then made dinner. The dessert was a hit.

He's lucky my parents live 700 miles away.
