fuckin' TEKKEN 6, my friends.
you know, i never thought i'd be one of those guys who would be waiting eagerly for a fighting game, but somehow i really got into the tekken series and there is such an incredible depth to it fighting wise. you really have to use your brain if you want to win the tough battles.

i'm also kind of waiting for prototype for the 360.

yeah civ3 is really great but there's some problems i have with it

The main one is that computer players tend to get really angry over minor, normal, real world stuff and stay that way for practically the entire game which drives me nuts. you'd think 2000 years is enough time to pass for someone to get over the fact that I invaded and took over someone else's city because they kept moving their units into my territory. I can understand England being bitter about me kicking their fucking ass, but the neighbors? What the fuck do they care? Especially ones who have had wars with them. It's not like Germany still holds a grudge to this day against Turkey because of some Ottoman acquisitions (but Serbs hold grudges against Muslims to this day for the same acquisition because it was their country). Just today, I had a situation where Russia asked me to invade England, after i took over a couple cities they begged for mercy and i accepted, being generally a civ micro manager and a huge empire just starts to get draining. After this, BOTH russia and england, as well as every other country on the continent, HATED me for a couple millennia and while France decided to use a non-aggression pact to sneak attack me, NOBODY wanted to ally with me against them. I can't even figure out why Russia hates my guts, I haven't done anything to them. I mean it's just flat out aggravating. I dunno why Alpha Centauri seems to have other factions that don't give two tugs of a dead dog's cock about you blowing up an entire faction after a few turns and some tech trading, Civ3 factions will hate you FOREVER just because of real politik. It's ridiculous. Especially considering on another continent, Persia just acts like a complete asshole that invades anyone that borders with them but are constantly getting allies to beat other powers heads in. Plus, for all of Alpha Centauri's flaws (mainly that it is civ but not as well as the unbelievably aggravating unit design "feature") its diplomacy is still better than Civ3 because it correctly recognizes that if a faction has a lot of weapons, most weaker factions are going to be scared of them and play ball. If you get powerful on Civ3, everyone hates you.

The other thing I touched on is how computer ai moves their units into your territory CONSTANTLY and frequently when you tell them to get the fuck out they declare war on you. I like that Civ4 just makes it so it's an act of war to move into territory if you don't have a right of passage agreement. That actually makes real world sense because if Mexico decided they were going to move one of their battalions into South Texas the shit would hit the fan PDQ.

so they date the release on the last day of this year so they can release it next? Again, blizzard I don't think ever has a serious release date until the thing is two days from going gold. "Blizzard Polish (tm)" and all that.

and i'll have to check out civ 4 eventhough i have heard mostly negative things about it.

you mean all the tremendous reviews and the metacritic score of 94 don't mean much when you got a pack of slack jawed south carolina yokels right

there's absolutely nothing wrong with Civ4. any bitching i've ever heard about it comes from people who are far too attached to civ3. I'm sure civ3 had a similar bunch of douchebags whining about how bad it was because they were too attached to civ2.

I need to install Civ IV on my laptop. Such a good game.

I guess games already mentioned interest me: Diablo 3, FFXIII, but lately I haven't been really into anything. Two of my friends got Star Ocean for the 360 and have logged 93 hours on their game. I just don't care to sink time into games like I did.

I'd really like to grab Gran Turismo if it ever comes out, although it's becoming the Duke Nukem Forever of racing games.

Oh yeah, Bioshock 2, how could I forget?! I've played through Bioshock a few times and I'm still not sick of it. Love the retro setting, the music, and the story is one of the best ever for a video game. Quark as the voice of Andrew Ryan is awesome, too.

I hope Ghostbusters is good, but I'm keeping my expectations low, because licensed games usually suck.

it's not glitchy but it is a resource hog, despite the lies about recommended specs. my computer is at recommended spec and it still chugs on big maps, and i think it chugs on normal maps during the modern era but i'm not sure on that. I really haven't noticed any glitches but my copy is up to date. I'm sure it shipped with some bad shit because it was patched a lot but that's the thing, you can patch the problems. But I'm also getting my ass kicked by the enemies in the field, which is usually a sign I'm not leveled up enough so I have to sit there for hours and grind it out which I'm also not looking forward to. while your vigor is impressive i just found the game borring, and they where not really zombies. remember back in the day xapcom was so upset that they could only put like 6 zombies on screen at once, now that can put a million zombies on screen at once, only not zombies, weird trance troops who use firearms. and the plot line has become so stupid, it just ruined the game for me

The first time I played this game, I got completely lost and could not follow the overly convoluted story. I couldn't keep track of who was who and what country was what country and who was aligned with who. So halfway through, I got to the point where I had no idea why we were doing what we were doing. It was boring. I quit.

Months later, I decided to start over again from the beginning. This time I was familiar with all the characters now. It was now much easier to follow the overarching political backstory. Dead wrong, sir. Seasons 6-9 really brought out the best in Homer. After 10 he started getting too insane and scream-y. Then once 12 rolled around he was just Peter Griffin 2.0.

Although his greatest moment may be when he defends his possession of sugar from Marge's criticism.

besides games...

just purely as a blu-ray player, the ps3 is one of the best in the market. then you also can browse the internet with it on your tv (although the ps3's internet browser is pretty slow and crappy). you can also connect the ps3 into your home wireless network to stream videos and music from your computer to the ps3.

Have a very stern talking to with him. Despite all the fancy features (which are alot) simply it's the easiest Blu-Ray player to update. You have to regularly update your firmware with Blu Ray players or else discs may stop working. With PS3, the Blu Ray updates are bundled into the regular system updates (that you have to check for manually, but still, it's way easier).

I use my PS3 every single day, and I'd say 10% of my total usage are from playing games. Maybe less. It's just really handy as a tech tool.

Get TVersity to stream stuff to your PS3 (with no quality loss) or put vid files on a USB stick / external hard-drive to watch them. Seriously, it's just a great multi-media machine.

Ugly
06-15-2009, 08:13 PM
(although the ps3's internet browser is pretty slow and crappy).

It's very user unfriendly and the page loads are... odd to say the least. But, flash-wise, it plays almost every single flash site, while the Wii web-brower is only updated to, like, flash 7 or something. I can watch JustinTV on my PS3, something I can't do on my Wii web-browser.

If the Wii web-browser just updated it's flash, it would easily be the best game system web browser, but the PS3 is best for what it can do. (When I can get JustinTV to load, I was able to watch UFC and College Football Bowl games streamed to the PS3, which was pretty cool)

I've never seen the 360 web browser. Maybe it's a land of milk and honey and combines the best of the Wii and Ps3. Hell, does the 360 even have one?

So far as I know, it doesn't have one.

But I still like my 360, though I use it more as a media extender than a gaming system as of late. I have a media center PC, so I record all my TV shows on it and stream them to my TV via the the 360. Works pretty well. Plus I can watch movies from my Netflix Instant Queue on my TV through the 360 as well. I'd say the only major drawback to the 360 is lack of blu-ray, but that doesn't bother me because I don't have a hi-def TV yet.

Future Boy
06-15-2009, 08:49 PM
^ same here on the high-def. Blue_ray and not being able to swap out for a bigger HD are the only drawbacks. Otherwise sounds like they do the same stuff.

and i have to agree with ugly about the ps3, i got it of course to play games, but probally only use it to play games 10 to 20 % of the time, i use it to play videos, store and view pics, i use it as my home stereo, blu-ray and dvd player, once i spring for wi fi i will probally use it for my net browsing as well.

it really is an amazing little machine, ps4 will probally take the place of home computers.

I will say that not every single video file I've downloaded plays on the PS3. 95% of them too, and every single rip I've gotten over the past year plays fine on the PS3. There's the odd avi file (usually a few years old) that it doesn't know what to do with. However, at that point, I just bust out my trusty LG Dvix/mpeg/whatever compatable DVD player I bought a few years ago. But I can't stream that so I have to go ahead and burn it to a CD. What is this, the dark ages?

Ps3 is suposed to be able to download a patch to play avi files. i usually have to convert all video files on my pc anyway so it is not much of a hassle to me, not to mention the ps3 has no problems playing any of my old ripped dvd's, not really an issue because i replaced them all with legitimate dvd's but it's still kind of groovy

life isn't about accumulating garbage for one thing and for two, over two hundered dollars + games + XBOX Live is around 300 bucks and it does one thing. Meanwhile, I still get plenty of fun out of my playstation 2 (which i paid 50 bucks for) and my old copies of madden and ncaa. I'd much rather spend money on a computer than a stupid console. just so i can play the two or three games that I'm interested in.

seriously why would i want to pay five times the amount i paid for a PS2? that's a "sick deal"? I think not.
