Conan ain't changin shit. Triumph and Masturbating Bear are showing up in the first week. He's going to be the last guest on Leno's last Tonight Show stint on Friday. They tried to get Johnny to do a "passing of the torch" interview with Leno when he left but Johnny nixed that idea, at least Leno is being nicer. (Considering how Leno really isn't going anywhere expect 10 PM, that probably isn't that big a deal)

Also Falon isn't going anywhere, either. His ratings, shockingly, dumbfoundingly, leveled out to equal with Conan's numbers. That's one of those things where you just kind of wonder about the taste level of people out there.

to be fair, I'd assume Falon is funnier than Furgison, so he doesn't have much competition (the last half-hour of Kimmel from 12:30 to 1 PM is just guest run-off and usually a pretty shitty band). I watched Falon's first episode and half of his second or third. That's it. I'm done. I gave him a full show and a little bit. That's enough.

He'll be sidekicking the fuck out of it here, and they'll definitely be bantering back and forth (while Andy is aside in his annoucer's podium and not on the couch but whatever) who cares what his official job title is. Aside from the pre-interview banter, Andy really didn't do anything else during the lion's share of the show. (Yes, he had some great moments with the guests, but those were rare and only notable because, really, he didn't DO anything most of the time)

There was an article written about him a few years back, I don't remember what magazine it is.

But apparently he's been doing a standup show at the same club, once a week for years and his material has never changed or updated, at all, ever. And of course people come to see him because he's Jay but the author marveled at the way he could just peel off hours and hours of jokes which never strayed far from Monica Lewinski, OJ Simpson, and Michael Jackson. I guess for some people it's like chicken soup in comedy form.

I wish I had the entire Bill Hicks rant somewhere on Leno, where he talks about the gy selling out and his entire career trajectory.

Overall I was happy with the show. I'm really digging the set. I wasn't sure if he would pull out the string dance...in the end he knew he had to do it. But what the fuck was up with Andy? It looked like he was on Ketamine tonight acting all crazy eyed.

I thought he's been doing incredibly well so far. It's a lot like the old show but Conan really seems more invigorated. He's totally into it an relaxed like he's always been there. Also, it was a major shock (in a good way) to see Andy Richter back. I had no clue that he was going to be the new announcer until I tuned into the show for the first time. Another thing to note: it seems that a lot of the self-depricating jabs at himself and his show are gone. You know, the whole "All 23 of you watching tonight" schtick.

both sets are oriented the same way, but the sets are completly diff, lenos set was wood and squares and borring, where conans is round and stary, and shiny, it is almost an homage to the old conan rounded set, only much much brighter.
