Uhh...I would say Davin, but I think the loss of Jimmy finally killed him.
davin 06-25-2009, 02:07 AM am i seriously being dissed by someone from texas? hey fuck you buddy!
i was just posting abotu this in the mike byrne thread. if you really care about my thoughts on the whole loss of jimmy thing....after my initial rage and despair, i kinda feel like i did during the post TEIBITE period in 97 except this time things look a little brighter since a human drummer is being sought after vs. drum samples and loops.
it still totally sucks, and after only really liking only 6 BC solo songs and half of adore, I'm expecting to like a smaller percentage of the output than usual. i think he makes billy want to rock in a way only JC can inspire. we'll see. some friends of mine who are casual fans try to argue that the MCIS tour was among the best shows and those didn't have jimmy. i try to explain that jimmy's presence during the writing process is key, and matt walker benefited from that. not to mention the credibility of the name, and jimmy's better skills. however people don't seem to think its as big of a deal as the james loss. sigh.
i personally think everyone was on cloud 9 during the MCIS tour, and more people wanted to LIKE the band, which is why there's such fond memories of the no-JC period for casual fans and the media. as opposed to 07 and 08 when everyone went into just wanting it to SUCK and hate on the band.
russian iha 06-25-2009, 03:07 AM By the way, I still don't get this "Jimmy is irreplaceable" thing when Matt Walker blew him out of water. Really, listen to any early-97 shows, the energy he brought to band with his drumming feels like jet plane taking off.
But still I get that Matt could be not the best contributor, at least he didn't have a chance, except for LICD maybe.
davin 06-25-2009, 03:23 AM Matt blew Jimmy out of the water? Really guy? Really?
I think he did a bang-up job replacing him, certainly. He brought good energy and nailed all the parts. But he does not have the same skillz as JC man. No way. He doesn't do all the subtle note accents, play rolls as articulate, or change up fills the way Jimmy does. And thats just the really obvious stuff. Matt also doesn't have the same connection to Billy or stage presence -- he doesn't push the envelope or challenge Billy the way Jimmy does/has.
hcueva 06-25-2009, 03:35 AM Slayer delivers every single time.
And when they temporarily replaced Lombardo, they did it with the amazing Paul Bostaph, not with some teen who's probably into Linking Park, or whatever kids listen to these days.

Trotskilicious 06-25-2009, 10:13 PM dumbest comment ever really matt walker better than jimmy
