So pretty soon (maybe) Nimrod can't tell me I'm such a loser because I've had the same job for 6 years [and haven't gotten fired because I sit on netphoria all day]! :)
And yes, it's my first job interview ever. Well, I interviewed for Kmart when I worked there for a month as a teenager, but that doesn't count. I've been at the same job since I was 15.
I was really nervous, but it went well. It's for another real estate company, one that's WAY more fast-paced (so I probably won't be around anymore, since this is the only time I get bored enough to come here) and they deal with mostly REOs, which is something I haven't gotten to do a lot but it interests me.
The guy seemed really impressed and said if it wasn't for the fact that I'm working now and have to give my current boss notice, etc, that he'd tell me to come in today to see how I like it. I told him I'd do my best to see what I could work out. He wants me to come in for a "second interview", which is just a paid day on the job to see how I like it and can handle it, and how they like me, which I think is really neat.
How bad is it if I don't give my current boss 2 week's notice? How does that work?? This guy wants me to start asap if I have my trial day and it works out...so I'm just not sure what to do because it looks like this might be a really great match for me. Plus it's literally around the corner from my burlesque dance studio! :D
Don't leave your current job without giving your 2 weeks' notice.

your potential new boss should have the common decency to allow you to give two-weeks notice. otherwise, that's a little disconcerting.

But yeah, I figured. I didn't know how hardcore that rule was, and I think I've decided not to take the job anyway...sounds like it's going to be a little too demanding for the pay. Sorry to get your hopes up, netphoria!
If nothing else, that was at least a real confidence booster! :)

04-20-2009, 11:27 AM
it's not a real rule, and I guess there can be legit circumstances...but I just think its a dick move if they don't allow you to give two weeks notice. I mean wouldn't they prefer a two week notice from their own employees. i dunno.
if the new job is worth it, then take it. burn that bridge.

Well yeah, this would be one of those instances I'd probably go for it anyway...my boss is a bitch and I understand this guy needs a few spots filled like, TODAY, since he's so busy but the more I think about it, the more I realize that this is probably going to require too much of my time outside of my normal hours - and if it was something where I'd be getting paid $14+/hr, then I'd be down...but why just be stressed out for different reasons and be making the same amount of money?

I just have to LOL at everyone thinking I meant I was making anywhere near $14/hr.
It looks like the only way I'll be able to make that kind of money doing what I do is if I work for some huge corporate office, which is something I really don't want to do. I like to be part of a small team, not a spec of dust in a maze full of cubicles. I just can't do it...I'm sacrificing my sanity enough as it is, and what's money if you're not happy?

I have all the weed I could want, a pretty bong to smoke it out of, my dog's shots are paid for, he's got food and treats and heartworm medication...Mark just bought a $1400 sitar and a Fender amp, we have a 47" LCD tv, we live in a house with a big yard, I have a pick up truck...I really can't complain.
