the worst thing to put together are the drawer units. putting together 6 drawers in a row gets pretty monotonous.

that doesn't in<adf>clude the kinda (but not really) optional slatted bed base you need to pick to fully support the mattress. They range from a basic one thats $20 (you need to buy two, set them side by side for a queen) to over $100 for adjustable ones

I was looking up new stuff for my new (second) room in my apartment and MALM would have been my first choice so far.
I have an old desk, an old bed, old wardrobes, old book- and old DVD-shelves (all from IKEA, ) and plan on changing that.

I went with Crate & Barrel when it came to a new bed frame. Macy's for a new couch. Ikea couches are awful.
Pretty much everything else in the apartment is Ikea though.

I have one of these as well, and it is indeed awesome.
I pretty much hate my Ikea couch, and while I knew better when I bought it, I thought it would fare better than their low end couches, as it seemed significantly better crafted and certainly more expensive. After only two years, it is very uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time and the leather is peeling in places (though the dog didn't help with that). All cushions are stitched together and cushioning seems non-replaceable.

No, I had IKEA futons before, and they are easy to handle and comfortable.
In my second room I have a huge couch, so I think I'm gonna be okay.
And since I have a wooden parquet floor, I'm gonna go with the fake beech look.

i have number two and it sucks. one time i took the drawers out so i could move it, and i hoisted it up upon my back, and the horizontal beams in between where the drawers go instantly snapped. granted that was a dumb idea and i didn't stop to think that it might be particle board, but the ease with which they snapped was appalling.

and it has survived a move relatively well... kind of more "expensive" when it comes to Ikea furniture though ($300)

it's redder than it looks in the picture. I like having red beside tables and a dark brown dresser. makes me feel cool.
I've had some other ikea furniture but it all sucks ass. The stuff they have that is a LITTLE bit more pricey really holds up a LOT better.

Where does one buy a good desk? I currently own a big heavy metal desk that is incredibly awesome as far as usability goes. It's probably 6' wide, 3' deep, 3' tall and weighs at least a solid 150lbs. It's pretty much like this (http://sonrisafurniture.com/cw3/assets/product_full/gf%20desk.jpg) but it's not rusted at all. You know what, I just changed my mind. I don't care if it's ugly ass green-grey metal color. This thing will last the rest of my life and if I ever change my mind about procreating and have a son, I will pass it on to him. He'd probably grudgingly accept my gift and not keep it for long. Fucking kid.
