...Or just in Chicago?

http://chicagoist.com/attachments/chicagoist_karl/dibs121808.jpg

This is saving your parking spot in front of your house during the winter.

I grew up with this happening, and I know to never to move the crate/bucket/patio furniture, but i wonder if this happens anywhere else? I never saw this in Brooklyn.

No, but especially if I'm there during xmas shopping season, if I see a good parking space at the mall/store, I make my passenger get out and stand in the spot until I can turn around and get to it.

I used to keep a parking cone in my trunk. I used it in high school once or twice because I had to leave to go to a dentist appointment after scoring a sweet parking space. I knew when I got back, some tardy fucker would've stolen it.

For some reason, I knew what crapatatricia was going to be talking about when I saw the thread title. I knew it.

Our citys mayor (Daley for those outside chicago) one time made a comment that you don't move other peoples shit. That, for lack of a better phrase, thats the "Chicago way". He got a lot of shit for it, and the next day or so, he said for people not to do it because it was illegal. You could tell he just said it to shut the whiners up.

People seem to only do it around here when they are moving. Note to self: acquire cone tomorrow as parking is hell in my neighbourhood!

this is the way we used to do it where i live but then the city made it park wherever you want instead of park in front of your house or where someone doesn't live and now it's chaos. i mean, i live on a street where there's room for 1 car (2 if your lucky) in front of a house and now that there are so many college kids renting the houses around us some houses have 3 or 4 cars that need parking. it's a disgusting king of the hill struggle just to park within a reasonable distance to your house.

If that happened in texas it would go something like...

Guy 2 breaks Guy 1's window.
Guy 2 is shot to death by Guy 1.

I totally understand how much having the amount of snow that Chicago gets (especially when they won't plow the fucking streets) sucks.

And because I don't have to deal with that.... ever..... it's nice to dream of the fun pseudo-snow we get here... Where it flurries for a few hours, and sometimes dumps as much as 6-12". And that's it. No more. No plows, every thing closes down because we're unequipped to deal with it, sit inside and watch tv because the power usually doesn't go out.

I just don't understand what's so awful about being able to wear shorts with the window open while the midwest and the north east are freezing their shit off.

I like the cold weather. Late Autumn/Winter is my favorite season. It's got a great look and feel to it.

I'll take 70 degrees over 110, but I'll take 20 over 70 any day.

Gold Coast neighborhood?

Yah, if you're livin on LSD, you can afford to take cabs everywhere. I imagine they have parking garages too? if not, they better leave their car cause parking spaces are even harder to get out there.

you guys don't know snow.
we've had over 3 feet already. last winter was over 18 feet and it seems we're heading this way again.

winter is exasperating at times but i still enjoy having four distinct seasons. it makes each one more enjoyable somehow, just because each sets a different pace.

Trotskilicious
12-20-2008, 09:37 PM
We have four seasons too but spring lasts two months, summer lasts like six, fall is about a month and winter lasts for 3 months give or take.

Spring in Texas is phenomenal.
