View Full Version : Does anybody do this in your city....?
carapatricia 12-18-2008, 10:47 PM ...Or just in Chicago?
http://chicagoist.com/attachments/chicagoist_karl/dibs121808.jpg
This is saving your parking spot in front of your house during the winter.
I grew up with this happening, and I know to never to move the crate/bucket/patio furniture, but i wonder if this happens anywhere else? I never saw this in Brooklyn.

Prison?
murgle 12-19-2008, 12:52 AM No, but especially if I'm there during xmas shopping season, if I see a good parking space at the mall/store, I make my passenger get out and stand in the spot until I can turn around and get to it.
I used to keep a parking cone in my trunk. I used it in high school once or twice because I had to leave to go to a dentist appointment after scoring a sweet parking space. I knew when I got back, some tardy fucker would've stolen it.
Sarcastic Smile 12-19-2008, 12:53 AM It happens in Boston.
no not really
LOL, noone uses cars in Europe.
mercurial 12-19-2008, 01:08 AM i used to do this when i was at uni - had a couple of those bright orange road cones in the boot
worked a treat
Elvis The Fat Years 12-19-2008, 06:47 AM couldnt you just.........

you can but you'll get your tires slashed. or piss in your tank, or a broken window.
For some reason, I knew what crapatatricia was going to be talking about when I saw the thread title. I knew it.
Our citys mayor (Daley for those outside chicago) one time made a comment that you don't move other peoples shit. That, for lack of a better phrase, thats the "Chicago way". He got a lot of shit for it, and the next day or so, he said for people not to do it because it was illegal. You could tell he just said it to shut the whiners up.
Lucy Sky Diamonds 12-19-2008, 09:45 AM People seem to only do it around here when they are moving. Note to self: acquire cone tomorrow as parking is hell in my neighbourhood!
carapatricia 12-19-2008, 11:20 AM also its important to save your spot because a lot of streets are

this is the way we used to do it where i live but then the city made it park wherever you want instead of park in front of your house or where someone doesn't live and now it's chaos. i mean, i live on a street where there's room for 1 car (2 if your lucky) in front of a house and now that there are so many college kids renting the houses around us some houses have 3 or 4 cars that need parking. it's a disgusting king of the hill struggle just to park within a reasonable distance to your house.
murgle 12-19-2008, 11:36 AM I wish it would fucking snow here. It's going to be in the 70's today. I hate texas.
shannon 12-19-2008, 11:38 AM we're supposed to get 5-8 inches today and then between 3-5 tonight
not too bad
Floppy Nono 12-19-2008, 11:39 AM 7-11 inches by 2 am tomorrow where i am with another storm coming sunday
shannon 12-19-2008, 11:47 AM snow is cool when there is going to be a shit ton
if it's only an inch or two it's just annoying, more than anything
Nimrod's Son 12-19-2008, 12:34 PM if I ever wanted to make an insurance claim because of a ding i put in my car i'll just drive to chicago and move a chair and park and wait to film someone attacking my car with a baseball bat

Elvis The Fat Years 12-19-2008, 05:25 PM he is, he just won't admit it. all he does is IM me about how much he hates the yankees...
and something about me having a pretty mouth.
spidersoma 12-19-2008, 09:44 PM don't you chicagoans abandon vehicles and just travel in cabs and the rail system? that's how my friend keith and his girlfriend holly roll. they live on lake shore in the golden park neighborhood.

Trotskilicious 12-19-2008, 10:29 PM yeah if you want a baseball bat through your windshield.
If that happened in texas it would go something like...
Guy 1 parks in spot with chair in it.
Guy 2 breaks Guy 1's window.
Guy 2 is shot to death by Guy 1.

but i hear the parking spots are extra big in texas.
and theres not a shit load of snow and incompetent plowers. theres no need for such rash behavior.
murgle 12-20-2008, 01:33 AM Spoken by someone who doesn't understand how inconvenient snow actually is.
I totally understand how much having the amount of snow that Chicago gets (especially when they won't plow the fucking streets) sucks.
And because I don't have to deal with that.... ever..... it's nice to dream of the fun pseudo-snow we get here... Where it flurries for a few hours, and sometimes dumps as much as 6-12". And that's it. No more. No plows, every thing closes down because we're unequipped to deal with it, sit inside and watch tv because the power usually doesn't go out.

I just don't understand what's so awful about being able to wear shorts with the window open while the midwest and the north east are freezing their shit off.
oh god it's 70 in late december how horrible i hate this place
when it's 95 in mid october that's when it sucks.
ciGarski 12-20-2008, 02:09 AM i had no idea how easy it is to muscle over chicagoans. i should have taken advantage while i lived there.

I like the cold weather. Late Autumn/Winter is my favorite season. It's got a great look and feel to it.
I'll take 70 degrees over 110, but I'll take 20 over 70 any day.
Travis Meeks 12-20-2008, 11:45 AM I forgot what a bitter asshole Trots is
spidersoma 12-20-2008, 12:17 PM I just don't understand
It's called a preference, and people are allowed to have preferences that differ from yours!

Gold Coast neighborhood?
Yah, if you're livin on LSD, you can afford to take cabs everywhere. I imagine they have parking garages too? if not, they better leave their car cause parking spaces are even harder to get out there.

fuck yeah!! its not that warm here but I love not having to deal with snow unless I WANT to (i.e. drive or fly to it)
Sarcastic Smile 12-20-2008, 02:52 PM I paid $500 for oil not even a month ago and it's time for more soon.. I'm looking at like 2k in heating costs this winter and oil has gone way down this year.. There is about 1 foot of snow outside an it's still coming..
carapatricia 12-20-2008, 04:12 PM I paid $500 for oil not even a month ago and it's time for more soon.. I'm looking at like 2k in heating costs this winter and oil has gone way down this year.. There is about 1 foot of snow outside an it's still coming..

carapatricia 12-20-2008, 04:51 PM how does heating oil work??
im sorry. ive always had gas heat or radiators. educate me
Trotskilicious 12-20-2008, 04:52 PM It's called a preference, and people are allowed to have preferences that differ from yours!
And I have preferences that in<zz>clude pointing out how nonsensical some people are.
Trotskilicious 12-20-2008, 04:55 PM I'll take 70 degrees over 110, but I'll take 20 over 70 any day.
Again, that's because you don't have to deal with 20 degree weather for three months every year.
It's just as bad as our summers.
myosis 12-20-2008, 09:31 PM you guys don't know snow.
we've had over 3 feet already. last winter was over 18 feet and it seems we're heading this way again.
winter is exasperating at times but i still enjoy having four distinct seasons. it makes each one more enjoyable somehow, just because each sets a different pace.
Trotskilicious 12-20-2008, 09:37 PM We have four seasons too but spring lasts two months, summer lasts like six, fall is about a month and winter lasts for 3 months give or take.
Spring in Texas is phenomenal.
yo soy el mejor 12-20-2008, 10:49 PM 35 feels like 25. yargh!
